Bye bye, PewDiePie? Frustrated YouTube star says he will delete channel
Time to binge watch your favorite PewDiePie videos.
The Swedish gamer — who recently topped Forbes' highest paying YouTube star list — said he will delete his channel Friday after officially hitting 50 million subscribers.

The news comes less than one week after PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, joined a handful of creators in voicing his frustrations with YouTube over  video views declining and subscribers suddenly disappearing.

The general theory is that YouTube has a new algorithm that has caused glitches. Although some in the internet community have come up with a conspiracy theory that YouTube boosts ads on the “trending” tab and videos with more likes and comments.

"It is really upsetting how [YouTube] did this change. They won't explain what happened properly to anyone," PewDiePie said in his video uploaded last Friday. "It's not just me, a lot of YouTubers are noting this."The Swedish gamer said the inexplicable changes feel like a "kick in the face."

Maker Studios, the digital entertainment network PewDiePie is a part of, stated Wednesday that PewDiePie Markiplier, JackSepticEye, KickthePJ, Cryaotic and more will live stream Friday and Saturday to raise money for RED, an AIDS charity. It's supposed to kick off on Friday on PewDiePie's channel.

Some speculate PewDiePie may be building buzz around deleting his channel to draw people to the channel for the charity stream.

PewDiePie, after all, has been known to prank viewers before.

But in his tweet, PewDiePie said he plans on deleting the channel at 5 p.m. GMT (12 p.m. ET and 9 a.m. PT).

  2. He is using his audience pulling power against YT just like Taylor Swift did against Apple Music, and is challenging changes made to YT. Nothing underhanded about it. It's a protest.
Sad, because a lot of what he does is very funny. Better than some of the stuff on tv these days. Just wish he wouldn't swear so much, a whole generation have grown up listening to his swearing. Worse than Billy Connolly - lol.

  3. The biggest channel on the YouTube. We all know that he doesn't need more money/public. He got everything he wanted, so, why don't do a break?

  4. Planning is gifferent than actually doing it... sure he is pointing out an issue with YouTube...however this sounds like a threat and A plan to draw more people in Just to hike up his numbers again. Respect if he does delete his channel...if he doesn't...well...that just says a lot about him....

  5. This will never happen, he could never make another video again and would garner enough views on existing videos to earn well into 6 figures a year for a number of years at the current structure

  6. Good, he's not only not talented, but he's doing it for a reason. He's trying to test the theory that Youtube is actively picking and selecting winners on their site to control the fans as opposed to letting the fans control the content. He's trying to find the You in Youtube.

  14. He's gonna delete his channel and start from 0 subscribers. He's not going to leave YouTube.

  15. He's gonna delete his current channel but make a second because making videos is a passion for him, and the money earned from it is just a kick added in. By deleting his channel (the biggest on YouTube) im sure it's going to create the stir that he's going for, but he's not done forever.
