Belgian World Cup player kicks ball right into his face

Sometimes you score, sometimes you kick a ball in your face.

During the World Cup match between England and Belgium on Thursday, a Belgian player struck himself in the face with a ball from his own kick. Michy Batshuayi went in for a victory kick to celebrate Belgium's goal, but instead the ball bounced off the goal post and hit him straight on. Batshauyi jogged away, holding his face and probably hoping that nobody saw it.

We all saw it, Michy. We all saw it.

Here's a slow motion version so you an really see the unrelenting optimism Batshuayi had before crushing his own dreams.

And a painfully relatable gif to go along with it.

We've all experienced something as humiliating as this, but definitely not in front of an international audience

  9. Highlight of the game was Batshuayi kicking the ball into the goal post and smashing himself in the nose. Quality

  10. Brilliant by Batshuayi... can’t hit the net from 2 inch’s... then gets a lucky bounce of his eyeball into the net

  11. Main thing I'm taking from this game is that Batshuayi will definitely be included on Shane Richie's World Cup Bloopers VHS. #ENGBEL

  12. I’ve clocked that Michy Batshuayi is actually the Belgian Danny Welbeck

  13. This game has been petering out to a lame conclusion for about 30 minutes now but I eagerly await the Michy Batshuayi “I hit myself in the face ” post 2 minutes after the match ends.

  14. Batshuayi with the highlight of the world cup

  15. The highlight of this whole game hasn’t even been Belgium scoring, it’s been more of Batshuayi hitting his head #ENGBEL

  16. I'm just not sure how to feel. On one hand I wanted to win, or draw and finish top. One the other hand if Januzaj hadn't scored I wouldn't have witnessed Batshuayi smash the ball into his own face #ENGBEL

  17. Haha lol rofl Batshuayi..... This man is simply hilarious #ENGBEL #WorldCup18

  19. What a peaceful world cup still . Was afraid it might be a world war but no . Is all love love

  20. This is why soccer is a joke. A professional player, standing in the goal, can't kick it in without smacking it off his own face. What's the final 1-1?

  21. Perhaps the good old fashioned hand shake with the scorer would have been safer!.

  22. Lol, this is the best laugh I've had all day

  23. He couldn’t kick it like Albanian Januzaj
