Close-up images of SpaceX's Starship launch are breathtaking
SpaceX's rocket Starship had its second major flight test this week, ascending to a height three times higher than its previous attempt before exploding.
The super-heavy spacecraft made progress from Starbase, located in Boca Chica, Texas, where it successfully lifted off before its booster was destroyed. The two-part vehicle was intended to orbit Earth before landing in the Pacific Ocean.
As Mashable wrote before the launch, "Crucially, the space exploration company has tempered expectations for these launches, and rightfully so. Starship — standing 397 feet high (with its booster) and powered by a whopping 33 engines — isn't nearly a finished vehicle. It's still in the demonstration phase."
New images and footage shared by SpaceX owner Elon Musk shed light on the journey – and are a visual treat.
Musk shared ongoing updates about the launch on X, congratulating the SpaceX team and thanking the Federal Aviation Administration for "rapid approval of a complex launch license".
"The future of space exploration is bright," the billionaire wrote.
SpaceX took to their account to share close-up images and videos of the powerful megarocket and the moment of its lift-off. The rocket soared 90 miles above the Earth.
Starship is designed to be a record-breaking feat, designed to be "the holy grail of space", according to Musk.
Its crazy to think that the idea of reusable rockets weren't wasn't even a thing until SpaceX figured out how to do it.
ReplyDeleteNASA and McDonald Douglas had it figured out in the 90s with the DC-X program. Musk hired those engineers and NASA gave SpaceX access to its technology.
Deletewell, if they evil of it, they definitely didn't do it
Deletewtf are you even trying to say?

wasted millions, rocket is DOA, but I got some great Pix is about par for Elon
ReplyDeleteand who are you again?
Deleteyou're letting your ridiculous hatred or dislike of one man cloud your better judgement about a private company that has mananged to do what some countries still haven't been able to do.
Deletethat's the price of progress
Deletelosing rockets after you launch them isn't progress, especially when you could end homelessness with way less money
Deletekeep it coming, guys, he's never going to notice you but this money is still wasted. humans have known how to send rockets into space and get em back successfully for over sixty years.
Deleteyou don't really know much about Starship, do you?
DeleteI know it's a silly billionaire hobby/vanity project attempting to monetize space exploration instead of having it benefit mankind, what else is there really for a nobody like me to know? foh.
Deleteah, indeed, and investors just pour their money into a useless hobby. Fortunately if you get hit by a bus tomorrow nobody will care and the world will not be a worse place because of it.
DeleteThe only reason a useless person like you can even voice this bullcrap openly is because some people dared to do more. Which is why we have thousands of satellites providing all sorts of useful services all over the globe right now, many launched only after SpaceX introduced reusability that greatly reduced costs per launch.
Starship is taking these capabilities further, making one of the biggest rockets ever made reusable, bringing costs down massively for very heavy payloads to distant orbits, to the Moon, Mars and beyond.
But hey, I’m sure space exploration is totally inconsequential waste of money for humanity, amirite?
Buddy, the only waste here is your life.
that's a remarkable projection, but it doesn't change the fact that recovery is crucial to reusability. that's something that doesn't change no matter how much or little you rate my life, but then again that doesn't change anything for anyone except you anyway.
Deletewhich is what the company is approaching, step by step. Not something that you would know. The beauty of reality is that it doesn't care what inconsequential barking mongrels think.
Deletereality can't care about anything, unless you're superstitious enough to ascribe human characteristics to concepts that are decidedly incapable of them. but you seem to be really into incapability- so go off, king. maybe it'll make you feel something for a minute.
Deleteyou really are rather thick, aren't you? 🙂
DeleteI'm sure you think I am, but I'm not sure I rate your assessments very highly. they seem to be based on flawed premises.
Deletethis coming from a guy dissing the world's richest man who keeps defying naysayers and pushing technological progress that even many ex-NASA engineers doubted? Self-awareness 0/100 🙂
Deleteyou're seriously on the side of the rich kid who thinks he can throw away enough money to eventually get one over on actual aerospace scientists? be honest, you can't think that's a viable strategy. it's the kind of pyrrhic action that only satisfies egos. he's been trying to do something for over a decade now that's not worth the effort. you're cheering for a sisyphan man-child.
DeleteEspecially the part when it disintegrates.

DeleteIt’s also crazy that they dont ever leave the stratosphere as that can’t get past the belt - firmament, we see them go up and then we see them arc over •••• 🤦🤣🤡
ReplyDeleteAre they coffee cups? 😂🤣😂

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting and actually confusing that someone who invested so much in a company touting renewable sources battery powered cars is trying to re-invent the wheel of space travel with old school combustion methods...
ReplyDeletehe hasn't invented anything. He just 're discovers" stuff and pretends he invented it.
DeleteAre we just rediscovering rockets? Like we collectively forgot we've been launching people into space since the 1950s? Lol
ReplyDeleteAnother explosion. More government handouts down the drain.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting when you read the linked article from the last test. He's determined for long term success.
