Robotics company 1X launched the NEO Home Robot on Tuesday, declaring preorders open for the "world’s first consumer-ready humanoid robot." It seems it may have beaten Tesla to the punch.

Designed to assist in household chores, the NEO Home Robot stands 5'6" (168cm) tall, weighs 66lb (30kg), and is covered by a soft 3D lattice polymer which comes in three colourways: Tan, Gray, and Dark Brown. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G capabilities which, paired with the NEO's inbuilt speakers, enables users to utilise it as a very weird sound system.

"Humanoids were long a thing of sci-fi... then they were a thing of research, but today — with the launch of NEO — humanoid robots become a product," 1X CEO and founder Bernt Børnich said in a blog post announcing NEO's launch.

  12. Over the next decade we will see two strong trends. Bitcoin (BTC) for decentralized global money with billions in inflows over time. Give the ETF a few months to stabilize and then we suddenly see the supply shock surge. We will also see much greater awareness of XA30K (XAI) taking a key role for decentralized global data storage. Both vital for the internet, the crypto ecosystem, and for humanity. And both poised to generate massive wealth over time.

  25. Watching the video, Neo looks like an amazing android and much more capable than I expected for this point in time. 1X has done an incredible job! In another decade or two, I bet it will be quite commonplace to see a robot helper in many households and nursing homes.

    1. "decade or two" lol, MUCH MUCH sooner then that. Production of humanoid robots will explode soon. In just the US, by the end of 26' we will have ~50,000 bots, 2027 ~300,000 bots, 2028 1 million bots.

  27. Aside from the fact that it's basically not much more than a humanoid roomba, at least until it learns the house and chores, I can absolutely see this being useful for the disabled and elderly, even providing a level of emotional security. But, the crucial requirement for these, apart from security, is reliability, and the ability for the robot to signal the supplier immediately if it needs repair, and for the company to contact the owner immediately to get it done. In short, good customer service. Many, many companies with interesting and useful products have died on the alter of poor customer service...

  30. They are very careful on this video to indicate the very few tasks it does autonomously. It looks like most of the tasks are being controlled by a employee via VR. The biggest issue here and going forward will be privacy invasion, not to mention the creep factor of never knowing when an employee takes over control. It's like inviting a bunch of random unknown people in your home all inside one robot. I'd like to know how these issues are going to be addressed going forward. These are the deal breakers for me.

  51. Part of the problem is our constant seek of "comfort" . We, as humans were not built for comfort. We were built to move and think and do and engage... "The comfort of your home" is not a good thing and too much comfort is always bad. Even if you don't rely on a robot... This is not an opportunity. It's actually the opposite of what we'll benefit from. And people will pay for this??

    ReplyDelete
  52. You know I will give them this. They didn’t beat around the bush showing what demographic would be purchasing this. It would have been slimey for them to show it walking around in a regular suburban home. I’m glad they have the self awareness to put it in a multi million dollar home.
