Thrilling 'Top Gun: Maverick' trailer sends Tom Cruise into... space?

Maverick is back, folks.

The first Top Gun: Maverick trailer showed us where life took Tom Cruise's Pete Mitchell after the events of the first movie. Not very far! His military career lost all momentum. But why?

The latest trailer doesn't get into all of that. But it does bring Mitchell back to the service – "They're called orders." – as an instructor. And apparently, he goes to space at some point!

Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters on June 26, 2020.

  1. The ending has a Blackbird SR-71 which is still operational by the US Air Force. It flies on the outer edge of earth's atmosphere.

    5. It is the Aurora, a scram jet aircraft..super top secret. Built by Skunk Works the makers of the SR71.

    7. Definitely not an SR-71!

    8. That wasn't an SR-71, but I'm guessing the blackbird is the predecessor of whatever he was flying in that last scene.

  2. He’s a test pilot flying experimental aircraft a la the Aurora from the look of it. Probably before getting called back to Top Gun.

  4. I saw it even in the first trailer. You could tell in different scenes he was wearing a space helmet. And when he’s talking to the admiral the “collar” of his suit is round like a space helmet clicks into. It was either gonna be space or a something extremely high altitude recon plane of some sort

  5. He's a Scientologist just trying to get back to his home planet.

  8. Not space.
Some airforce airplanes go very high and it's more efficient to have the pilots in spacesuits rather than pressurize the cockpit...like the SR-71.

  11. Oh boy ANOTHER sequel from little Tommy Cruise.
What’s he going to do if he’s not running or jumping? ACT???
Will he be in a DC-8-like spacecraft looking for Xenu?
And of course the boring interviews where they are FORBID to talk about his 3 failed marriages, ( if $cientology is so perfect why is he divorced THREE TIMES?!), his abandoned child (who he’s not allowed to see because of $cientology), or being called out in Going Clear and by Leah Remini due to his undying loyalty to $cientology and it’s Lilliputian leader David Miscavige.
Fingers crossed for another homoerotic volleyball scene.
