Zoom is coming to Tesla so you can Zoom in your Tesla

Stuck in traffic and late for a meeting? No problem; if you drive a Tesla, you'll soon be able to join the Zoom call directly from your vehicle.
This is according to Zoom itself, which announced the news during its Zoomtopia 2022 event on Tuesday (via Drive Tesla Canada).
The feature has been long in the making. In April 2020, some Tesla drivers asked CEO Elon Musk whether the car's interior camera could be used for a Zoom meeting, and Zoom wasn't completely against the idea, while Tesla remained silent. But a month later, Musk confirmed that video conferencing within a Tesla was "definitely a future feature."
Now, Nitasha Walia, Zoom's Group Product Manager, confirmed that Zoom is definitely coming to "all new Tesla models soon." In a short demo, the feature was shown in action in a Tesla Model Y, apparently showing the car's cabin camera, which stands above the rear-view mirror, in action for the first time. The car is parked and charging during the call, and if you look closely, you'll see that the Zoom call is accessed from the car's built-in calendar feature.
There are still several unknowns regarding Zoom calls in Tesla calls. Given Zoom's previous comments about safety, it's unlikely that the feature will be available while driving. But we don't know whether it will be available on Wi-Fi only, and whether Tesla's Premium Connectivity, which offers faster internet for a monthly fee, will be required.
On Tuesday, Zoom also announced some new features unrelated to cars, most notably Zoom Mail and Calendar. With these apps, which are currently in beta, Zoom becomes more of a one-stop solution for managing your tasks and meetings, similar to Google Workspace. Notable features include end-to-end encryption when emails are sent between two Zoom Mail Service users, and an appointment booking feature, making it easier for users to select an available time for a Zoom meeting.
The company also announced Zoom Spots, a "virtual coworking space" for "free-form, video-first conversations." It's coming in early 2023, the company said.
More in Tesla
As if there aren’t enough crashes on the M25 already 🙄
ReplyDeleteit’s unlikely to be available while driving.
DeleteSo shouldn’t contribute to more crashes.
No Tesla’s for me! Musk is an oligarch with poor behaviors and creepy morals.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that his ultimate goal is to totally remove the human element to driving is why I'd never buy a Tesla even if one came out that was reasonably priced.
Deletesomeone’s jealousy button got pushed.
DeleteHe’s rich, you ain’t. Get over it
there are plenty of billionaires who I admire a great deal more than Musk.
DeleteNow we just need to get them rigged up in everyone's bathrooms, the final refuge from these pretentious circle jerk wastes of time.
ReplyDeleteComment of the day. 💯
DeletePlease make it stop.
ReplyDeleteif Elon has his way he will just zoom your dreams so you can wake up pre programmed to serve the elite
ReplyDeleteIf you read the article, you won’t be able to Zoom while driving thank goodness. Let’s hope that doesn’t change.
ReplyDeleteThen what exactly is the point? Another wasted invention! That will be manipulated just as Cell phones are! Smh
DeleteI agree. It’s pointless.
DeleteThought I was missing something!! Thank you
DeleteNope 👎 it’s company policy not to be in meetings whilst driving. Until these cars are fully autonomous and safe, it’s a hard no for me.
ReplyDeletesomeone didn’t read the article….actually it looks like several people didn’t.
DeleteYou can't use Tesla's media apps while you are driving. Have to be in park.
Deletewhat’s the point then? 🤷🏻♀️ I’d rather sit in my home office thanks
Deleteyou're away from home and need to be on camera? 🤷🏾♂️ On a road trip? While charging at a supercharger? There are tons of uses for this.
DeleteI’m just laughing at the idea that Teslas will be safe.
DeleteIs it legal
ReplyDeleteA lot of people are already having zoom meetings in their vehicles. So this is not an alien behaviour. It will only make it easier for them.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I suggest that the meeting feature should be designed such that it will only be activated when the vehicle is self driving or totally parked.
All of Tesla's media apps (YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, etc.) are inaccessible unless you are in park. This would clearly be the case for Zoom.
DeleteJust want I never wanted!
ReplyDeleteFord has had Teams on Sync4 for almost two years already… *yawn*
ReplyDeleteDon’t buy an autocrat anarchist’s Tesla, whom promotes conspiracy theories. Many other companies make great electric vehicles.
ReplyDeleteCan already do that with apple’s carplay. It just allows the voice through…
ReplyDeleteIn the immortal words of Wreckx-N-Effect “All I wanna do is zooma zoom zoom zoom in my vroom vroom” 🎼 https://youtu.be/xdCp_j8Wyuw
ReplyDeleteIn my younger days there were some great meetings in the back seat.
ReplyDeleteas if phones are not invented
ReplyDeleteGreat - more footage for Wham Bam Teslacam!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to Zoom in my Tesla until it auto downloads Crash, Lawsuit, and Jail Time. Then I'm deleting it.
ReplyDeleteI hope NOT while one is driving!!
ReplyDeletePerfect. More distraction. SERIOUSLY?!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEven greater risk of falling asleep at the wheel.
ReplyDeleteYay…I will show off my musk’s ego car
ReplyDeleteI’m sure lots of people have had meetings in their car. Been going on for decades.
ReplyDeleteWhy not just drive in your car, go places.
ReplyDeleteeven if you make onlyfans nobody gonna buy😁
ReplyDeleteOnly available in the self-driving one I hope.
ReplyDeleteIsn’t this distractive driving?
ReplyDeleteYa cause no meeting can wait for late people huh!! Sad but typical Tesla drivers
ReplyDeletelol. What are you talking about?
DeleteFolks join conference calls all the time from the road.
Lol. It’s normal.
Yes just what the roads need are even more distracted drivers
ReplyDeleteIt’s been carplay friendly for a few years now
ReplyDeleteUh.. isn't that dangerous? And if it's permitted shouldn't other people can zoom with their phone on phone holder?
ReplyDeleteBut you cant have your cell phone 🤦👍
ReplyDeleteDistracted driving?
ReplyDeleteThat seems safe 🤣
ReplyDeleteit is. Because the car will likely need to be in park for this to work.
DeleteI figured something like that would need to be in place. It is funny to think of someone trying to participate in a zoom call driving through traffic
DeleteZoom got replaced with teams
ReplyDeleteMazda had zoom-zoom
ReplyDeleteHorrible idea! So dangerous!
ReplyDeleteIf you find a charger before your meeting you can kill two birds
ReplyDeleteBut…. I use ms teams…
ReplyDeleteObviously coming from the guy that wants his people to work so much they end up sleeping there. Get em on the way and home smh
ReplyDeleteWe heard you like zoom and teslas, so we put zoom in your Tesla so you can zoom in your Tesla while you zoom your tesla
ReplyDeletehttps://giphy.com/gifs/tokkingheads-NMAu376QwR6HL0ickH
We are definitely not ready for that.
ReplyDeleteready for what? Be able to take a conference call while stopped?
Deletewe as humans are not ready for the tech to drive self driving cars and hold meetings in our cars cause we can’t even perfect the tech so what do you mean ready for what?
DeleteNot in school zones
ReplyDeletetesla will be dead by then.

This is gonna be as good as people crashing while sitting in the passenger seat allowing the car to drive
ReplyDeleteI won't buy a car from a Neo-Nazi.
ReplyDeleteJust Forgeddit, buster...😒
ReplyDeleteWTF!? Drivers are distracted enough as it is.
ReplyDeletegross
ReplyDeleteTesla is a safety problem
ReplyDeleteHow are you keeping your eye on the road during a zoom meeting?
ReplyDeletehomeless people must zoom from somewhere, right?
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeletesounds like a lawsuit to me
DeleteTired of the driving part being the tertiary activity
Screw Tesla and Elon Musk.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Your batteries catching fire will be dramatic.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a cel phone already...
ReplyDeletePeople already do this on phone
ReplyDeleteWell, that's one respectable way to die. "She was working." LOL
ReplyDeleteAnother reason not to buy a Tesla.
ReplyDeleteInstalls in backseat.
ReplyDelete...and the chief twit sits in on your meetings.... nice.
ReplyDeletesolution looking for a problem
ReplyDeleteBeen having meetings in my car for a couple years now. Where you all been?
ReplyDeleteIt took me a second to realize I wasn’t looking at a NSFW photo 😂
ReplyDeleteThere will be a disadvantage to this honestly
ReplyDeleteShould be illegal
ReplyDeletePeople will die.
ReplyDeleteNope, they sure aren't.
ReplyDelete
