Bluesky is on the verge of overtaking Threads in all the ways that matter
Bluesky, the formerly Jack Dorsey-affiliated, decentralized answer to Elon Musk's X is closing the gap with Threads at breakneck speed. The browser version of Bluesky surpassed Threads in total usage weeks ago, but now the Bluesky app has exploded to 3.5 million daily active users, putting it just 1.5 times behind Meta’s Threads — an impressive feat considering the Threads app had 5x Bluesky's active users at the start of the month.

The momentum shift has been nothing short of seismic, especially in the wake of the November 5 election. According to Similarweb data reported by the Financial Times, Bluesky’s user base has ballooned by 300 percent since Election Day. Journalists, academics, and companies are fleeing Elon Musk’s chaotic X (formerly Twitter) in droves, and Bluesky is quickly becoming their platform of choice.
Why Bluesky over Threads? Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to downplay political content on Threads appears to have turned off many users seeking vibrant public discourse. Critics see it as an attempt to stay in President-elect Donald Trump’s good graces, effectively neutering the platform’s potential as a forum for political and cultural debate.
Bluesky has quickly become the go-to platform for what commentator Max Read has called the "Politically Engaged Email Job Blob" — the same cohort that helped transform early Twitter into the cultural juggernaut it once was.
That said, Bluesky is still very much a work in progress. Its rapid growth has brought its share of headaches, including outages, glitches, and scammers. As more users flock to this latest "Twitter replacement," expect some inevitable growing pains along the way.
Topics Social Media Meta
No metion of the main reason why Bluesky is head and shoulders above the others: open source, decentralized, open public standard. For many a "social" network lacking these basic central features such as Meta, X or Threads disqualifies them and for good reason. The main issue is ownership. It's not your profile on Threads, it's Thread's profile on you. On Bluesky it really is your profile: you own yourself there rather than be owned.
ReplyDeleteI think most people care more about whether they get seen or heard. The technicalities if who owns your post is not in forefront of the mind of 99% of users
Delete"decentralized"
DeleteTurns out it isn't: https://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky/
"A safe maga free place" it will just be an echo chamber.
ReplyDeleteI follow a gardening feed on there. Does that mean I'm in a gardening echo chamber?
DeleteThe comment you replied to refers to all those fleeing X in droves. Is it because they all found new interests on bluesky such as gardening threads?
Delete"gardening feed"
DeleteWhy are leftists so gay?
MAGA's dishonest propaganda and hatred does not add anything to productive conversation. In reality there is less distortion on Blue Sky.
DeleteMagafree - whoopee!!!
DeleteIts a safe place for election deniers
DeleteActually, there's less bots and advertisements, with an increased of engagement on bluesky.
DeleteThere are no bots and ads because there's no one there. Simple as that.
DeleteBlue Sky will never succeed, its a Left Wing bubble. Conservatives and moderates will always stay on X. and we all know what the Left do when they tell themselves their truth.
ReplyDeleteRight wingers' entire worldview is built around bullying and trolling. They'll get bored of twitter once all the lefties and actual moderates leave and it turns into another truth social.
DeleteDelousal
DeleteWatch n see
DeleteJack Dorsey... Lol. Blue Scams.
ReplyDeleteThreads fell short of being an alternative to elons twitter x, the only thing it gets its boost was it connection to Facebook. Substance wise nada, couldn't even use hashtags in when it first went online.
ReplyDeleteMaybe something to do with the fact that there’s no advertising, very few MAGA trolls and that people are aiming to be respectful to each other there even if they disagree.
ReplyDeleteBoth are better than X!
ReplyDeleteBlueCry = 20 million users
DeleteX = 619 million users.
And Threads is just an add on for Instagram, not really a new platform.
don’t care
DeleteI hear it has loads of woke lefty buttholes on it ....what are ya pronouns????
DeleteDid you get lost from unTruth Social?
Deleteyou are right. we still don’t miss the swastika wielding antihumans though 😘

DeleteMaybe it’s because there’s no ads and very few trolls. People are actually trying to be respectful on Threads, even when they disagree. It’s refreshing, but maybe a little too quiet for those who crave the chaos of other platforms.
ReplyDeleteAnd still X is no1 in news app, both free and grossing. I believe this hurts your feelings so much 🙂
ReplyDelete"The hugest crowds."It's all about money. That's why orange is able to pick our pockets.
DeleteThreads and Bluesky 😝
ReplyDeleteI found all my friends on Threads with ease. That's why I'm using it lol
ReplyDeleteWell, Meta seems to want all their users content to create AI training and stuff. The TOS is disgusting, it's basically "We don't own your content but we will make derivatives from it". 🤢
ReplyDeleteoh yes they appropriate the content
DeleteThreads is a graveyard of Instagram. LOL
ReplyDeleteI never wanted to open threads ‘cause it’s linked to your instagram account and in case you close your account with threads your instagram will close too. So no never open never will. Threads is a threat
ReplyDeleteThey pushed Threads like crazy. Failed. Now they're trying again. Bunch of 🤡
ReplyDeleteIf only there was a new app to replace Facebook.
ReplyDeleteblueskysocial.. is great
DeleteI will look it up
DeleteReddit
Deletei've been on Reddit many times, but you can't post pictures to your family and friends, but I'm gonna check out blue sky social.
DeleteAnd when you see mainstream media strongly promote Bluesky, then you know where the platform is heading to.
ReplyDeletedefine msm. Cause news sources like msnbc,CNN, fox etc cannot in any way be defined as mainstream.
DeleteWhy?
Because if they only reach 2-3% of adults they are not by any measure considered mainstream except by those who dri k the red and blue foolade.
we don't get this crap over there.. no fake news ..no lies.. no podunk bs
DeleteCorporate media
Deletewoke af
DeleteX always has crypto tags trending #1. Very suspicious.
ReplyDeleteThe free promotions this app has received is definitely suspicious
ReplyDeleteits for sure the deep state. You should stay far far away from the site. They would probably take your information and sell it to companies that make the wind energy turbines thats been turning all the birds gay!!!!
DeleteWondering who owns it?
ReplyDeleteJay Graber, a young woman who is also the ceo.
Deleteit is better thab threads...
ReplyDeleteDoesn’t matter. Malignant oligarchs are buying up all the outlets. The Nutzi takeover is well underway. 😔🇺🇸
ReplyDeletenot If we resist
DeleteThey want us to give in
I refuse to back out
Nevertheless we have more convenient apps
ReplyDeleteHonestly
ReplyDeleteAnd be really honest
Does anyone really want to spend any time on any platform now that the election is over?
Here we go again. Who is paying you to promote this "grass roots movement" that is already a toxic political battleground of left vs right wing pretending to be a creative community but heading straight to becoming a political echo chamber?
ReplyDeleteIf Threads was independent btw it would have already been dead.
go outside
DeleteI just came back in. And fell on a barrage of Bluesky promotion by the same media outlets that promote left ideologies. Mashable, the Guardian etc.
Deleteoh no I'm sorry that happened to you, you poor thing.
Deletedo you need a safe space?
DeleteIt's where the left goes to cry
ReplyDeleteIt’s a liberal echo chamber and treatment centre for those suffering from the woke mind virus. Fun place to troll though.
ReplyDeleteI don’t understand this woke stuff. How is being knowledgeable, informed, educated, aware, conscious, and evolved a bad thing? Knowledge is power.
Deletethat’s all they got quite pathetic isn’t it? better to be woke than brain dead i’d say
Deletelol. No it's not. Trolls can't get any traction there, which is part of what makes it great. Keep coping, though.
Deletehow many times have you said/heard “echo chamber”
DeleteNo one uses threads on purpose
ReplyDeleteI just think we are all burnt out of just trying to keep up with another social media. People share the same thing on different platforms it’s so boring.
DeleteSo many people somehow have no idea what phrase "no one" means.
Deleteok does nearly no one serve your purposes better?
Deletedid they slip and fall on the install button for the app then, like any good slapstick, slip and fall again to autocreate their accounts somehow?
Delete💯insta-converted instragramers is all threads is…
DeleteThreads sucks! Can't even view them without having to download the app and signing up first!
ReplyDeleteBluesky reports each other for hate speech, they won’t last long😂😂
ReplyDeleteAnything But X‼
ReplyDelete🤮
Its a pedo safe haven smh
ReplyDeleteDid Gaetz show up?
Delete#WTF is Threads?!???
ReplyDelete3.5 million users going to bluesky since November 5th election....
ReplyDeleteExploding with great energy, respectful & interesting..
No ads
Counting me too.. it's much nicer and no trolls . Running I win you lose bs

ReplyDelete很多「大咖」都有開帳號,但看更新狀況,大多是好幾天前(因為一波風潮?),然後就沒再繼續更新了。更早一批的甚至是好幾個月前。
Dethrone X first. We must show Musk a lesson
ReplyDeletedethrone X? Good luck.

DeleteIt only got a 4.1 rating on Google Play and a lot of very critical reviews. I'll stick with Threads.
ReplyDeleteYep that's going to happen when platforms driven by algorithm based advertising review a platform that doesn't allow a single point of ownership or algorithm driven ads.
DeleteI mean, if you love censorship, Bluesky and Threads are the best.
ReplyDeletelol you guys really hate when you have no one to argue with.
DeleteI mean sounds more like you're the one these coping pretty hard 🤣 we are happy over on bluesky and you're raging on fb about it and getting laughed at.
Deletecan’t say cis though
DeleteMeta community guidelines are too strict for adults
ReplyDeleteSome adults need supervision
Deleteso there's no censorship over there?
DeleteThis was also said about threads. Then it fell off a cliff after week 3
ReplyDeletethreads was compared to threads?
DeleteThis article about Bluesky looks exactly like an article about threads when it launched.
DeleteThere was initial hype around threads when it launched because it saw a bump in subscribers / downloads which was relatively small in the grand scheme. It was poised to replace twitter according to those rooting for it and against Elon. Then it caved and remained stagnate.
You make a good point, if Bluesky is only overtaking threads, that's not really an accomplishment. Most likely Bluesky won't get past the initial excitement. Just like Mastodon. It will fizzle and the daily user numbers on X won't be affected.
I find that the two together replace Twitter/X. Not one on its own…yet. Just can’t find people easily on Bluesky.
ReplyDeleteBluesky is troon platform 😂
ReplyDeleteBluesky and Threads will merge. And Elon musk's, X will purchase it. And as the great comedian, George Carlin's use to say, "It's a big club & you ain't in it" 🤔😂
ReplyDeleteBluesky is unpurchasable, as it is open source and free.
DeleteMeta's 'Community Standards' system makes people scared to post anything or do anything half of the time. For that reason, and their horrible algorithm, they'll never replace what Twitter used to be. We need Bluesky.
ReplyDeletei have only heard bad things but hey whatever works for people
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Now we can separate reality and fiction so we on X can get factual news in peace, while you lunatics can feed each others fantasy on Bluesky. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteBluesky is a great replacement for Twitter without all the magats. It’s what Twitter used to be for news and political discourse. Threads is better than FB in that it’s like everyone is your friend and chatting about every day stuff. I like both for very different reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst all the radical leftists fled to Threads… and now that Zuckerberg has become a Trump supporter they are all fleeing to BlueCry… but it doesn’t matter. There aren’t enough radical leftists to make a relevant difference.
ReplyDeleteBlueCry has 20 million users, X has 619 million.
and how many Twitter users are bots?
Deleteaccording to the FBI, for every human account there are 4 bot accounts leaving twitter at about 120 real accounts and many users have multiple accounts so it's probably half that.

When I got on blue sky and sampled the first 20 or so posts, It was alarming to me how many of those posts mentioned the V word in relation to a certain virus. it looks like an agenda to me right off the bat. Tea talk has a similar one, and if you mention the name of any big P company, your account will be banned immediately as mine was. All I did was ask a question and I was gone within 30 minutes. In addition, I have been trying to leave blue sky for more than a week and they cannot find my password. There's an error, blah blah blah, blah blah. But they will not let me leave. I don't trust any social media, but I still use it. I am just aware of what it is and that is surveillance And propaganda.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Blue Sky. 🤣
ReplyDelete"Unpopular platform whose only noteworthy differentiating feature is extra censorship about to overtake unpopular platform whose only noteworthy differentiating feature is extra censorship."
ReplyDeleteXAI is now worth more than Musk paid for Twitter
ReplyDeletecut your source? Link to an article from a real news authority, not Truth Social?
Deletehttps://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-xai-startup...
Deleteoh no facts. Run everyone lol. Let's see his response
Deletebut that is not x/twitter

Deletehttps://www.spiceworks.com/.../integration-xai-startup.../
DeleteXAI will Merge with X . So yes it will be X .. interesting how people call Musk out and say he will fail are constantly being proven wrong
DeleteTake em down bluesky... and don't let Google decide your values either
ReplyDeleteMedia doing everything they can to promote this over twitter/X
ReplyDeletebluesky is decentralized, so, its a good thing
Deletecreated by guy that originally made Twitter then sold out to government to hand over all user information AND no protect its users privacy rights. But okay lmfao
Deletethe protocol/app/web is literally open source, also you don't need to worry about "data selling", because ALL data is already public, there is nothing to sell.
Deletehttps://media1.tenor.co/m/dbXLcVF_abkAAAAd/stick-the-point.gif?
DeleteI refuse censorship
ReplyDeleteI thought liberals were tolerant?🤷🏿♂️ Not so, it appears.
ReplyDeleteAll those who can't abide people disagreeing with them are fleeing X in droves as the woke tide ebbs 😆
ReplyDelete
