    3. Mine was lapsing, anyway but I saw the price hike and that sealed it for me. I like that not only is it a lost customer but it's an annual non-renewal, which is bad for the reports. I'm gonna spring for an annual sub to ‘Shudder’, instead.

      Delete
    4. I cancelled mine the day before they announced that lol. Made me feel a bit better that I did.

    5. Yeah they probably should have rolled that back. They created a perfect storm two good reasons to leave

    1. Disney was afraid of the FCC’s threats to take away ABC’s license to broadcast shows on television, and by right-wing-owned affiliates saying they would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live anymore.

Then Disney was afraid of boycotts from people who like free speech and democracy, so they restored the show.

  20. That’s about 1.4% of their 128 million reported subscribers as of June 2025 (source:AI). Some of that loss was probably attributable to other factors, but still it’s fairly clear the boycott made an impact.

I bet they were bleeding hundreds of thousands a day before they reneged.

      Delete
    3. This doesn't cover the people like me who cancelled, then resubscribed with a cheaper bundle (which I'd been meaning to do for months, and Jimmy Kimmel of all people gave me the excuse.)

      Delete
    4. Before I had and cancelled HULU/Dis/ESPN, I had an espn account for fantasy football (free) and that email became my Disney account paired with FFL. Thats to say, I wonder if that 128m includes free subscribers like me.

      Delete
    5. That was the number just because of kimmel. We need additional data about ppl who were on the fence because of kimmel issue and then pull the trigger tk cancel after they send out email saying they hike the fee

    3. Yeah, but no official confirmation on the figure. It'd be interesting to know the real numbers and comparisons of September vs August.

      Delete
    4. Disney lost 1.7 million subscribers in the week after firing Jimmy Kimmel. There was also a 436% increase in the churn rate. Do you math?

      Delete
    5. Are you suggesting those details are enough to compare the number of lost subscribers in September to August? The number of Disney+ subscribers has been trending down anyway, and surely the Kimmel thing brought an immediate spike in subscriber cancellations, but I wonder how much it factors in over the span of a month. Disney+ subscriptions are a month (or longer) at a time, so it could be that a large chunk of the people who cancelled last week were people who weren't going to renew their month-long membership anyway.

But I mean I guess you could just repeat the exact same thing that the previous person said without adding any thoughts whatsoever except an irrelevant insult. That's always welcome.

      Delete
  45. I know I was all set to keep them afterwards, but they had to go and raise rates. Genius move that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yet then they decide to increase their prices too right after! That’s really gunna keep people.

  53. 1.7 million paid subscribers gone after Disney suspended Kimmel! Talk about an expensive decision - those subscriber losses add up fast in the streaming wars

    ReplyDelete
  54. I canceled, and will stay canceled. Don't fuck with free speech. Bringing kimmel back changes nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jimmy K tossing it with both hands at how popular he is.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What’s the source? This is likely not true. Disney doesn’t report their subscriber numbers so there is no way of knowing.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm glad I saw this. It reminded me to cancel my Disney/hulu

    ReplyDelete
  58. Not super surprising. Disney+ has been riding a lot of goodwill with casual subscribers, but moves like suspending Kimmel seem to hit people where it matters, trust and perception. Losing 1.7 million in a single week is huge, and it shows that some subscribers aren’t just there for the content, they care about the company’s values and decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I cancelled because Amex platt now pays for YouTube tv in digital credit. I was using for Disney which I don’t like. Prefer to use the credit towards YouTube tv so I dropped Disney. Had nothing to do with Kimmel.

    ReplyDelete
  60. That’s three times as many people who have actually watched Kimmels show. Fake numbers

    1. I cancelled because Alien Earth ended

      Delete
  61. They also raised the subscription price since then too which definitely didn't help.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So you say Donald Trump caused the Kimmel incident and you were mad because he wanted Kimmel gone. So,"presumedly" he gets rid of one guy with government over reach and people banned together to destroy an entire platform risking 1000s of jobs. Doesn't that eventually cancel Kimmel anyway along with a few more Marvel flops. Most of the conservatives can't stand Disney with the over woke non stop stuff but they didn't quit, or did they. So where's the benefit of any of this if the right just keeps watching? Sounds like they are the money bet for Disney .

  65. Kimmels numbers are dropping like a rock after his return as well . The day of he had around 6.5 million viewers , the following Thursday it was 2.3 (64% drop) . People tuned in to see the hype or whatever but after that passed , people lost interest
