Sexist. The women had just as difficult a path and were arguably going to lose if not for that Knight goal with 2 minutes to go. They were getting thrashed by Canada, a team they owned and won 7 straight against.
The argument I see from hockey fans that know both leagues is that the womens league doesn't have much depth and is rather lopsided given how many countries fund and train it seriously. Brackets are also structured differently so the top 5 teams only play themselves and the bottom 5 play themselves to avoid blowouts because of said lopsidedness. In contrast the mens has 12 teams in a traditional snake format to dictate the outcome. Additionally, the Mens 12 teams while having group B level teams the gap between group B and A-AAA is tighter than in the Womens league. Just many more teams and many more players involved with much more funding.
Trump is a lying shitbag. The morally corrupt right wing criminals completely shut up about it despite video evidence of Trump and Epstein being best friends for 2 decades. He knew of and participated in trafficking, sexual assault, emotional, and physical abuse of children. Melania knew.
A perfect example of what women mean when they say men have to be the ones to challenge misogyny amongst one another for major change to take place. This was a perfect opportunity for one of the hockey players, even just a single one, to not laugh and point out how fucked up that “joke” was. Turns out the people who most typically perpetrate sexual assault and abuse cases against women and children do not actually care about women and children.
Just like soccer, USA women’s team has been FAR more dominant in the past and this year’s games than the men’s team. If anything, the men should look at the women for inspiration - not just at the competitive level, but in morality as well. I’m an American man who loves hockey, and the women’s hockey team has represented my country better than the men’s team.
And even then, she was saying she was pissed about the NCAA rules. Her rhetoric really ramped up when she started getting paid by the MAGA machine to loudly proclaim all women continued by trans athletes.
Of course Trump hates women, but the real reason he didn’t claim victory for their success as well is because they weren’t receptive to his “invites”. If they had been more receptive to him he would have been happy to take credit for the women’s accomplishments as well.

Great game, and a shame Hughes sacrificed a couple teeth in the process. USA was often on it's heels, but the goalie was magnificent, the first goal was masterful, and defending a 5 on 3 was another "whew" moment. The best thing might be the tribute for the Gaudreau's and bringing the kids on to the ice for the team photo. Classy and proof that sports can sometimes bond people into a family.

It was mentioned, just not during the game. They also didn't deserve to be there, and personally, I find it sad that the IOC bends and allows individuals to still compete as independent/unaffiliated participants, which in effect primarily only impacts team sport participation. Russia controls the media within its borders, fully excluding its citizens is a better way to let the people who buy in to the nonsense rationales for their invasion if Ukraine know the world does not agree.

DeleteGreat game, and a shame Hughes sacrificed a couple teeth in the process. USA was often on it's heels, but the goalie was magnificent, the first goal was masterful, and defending a 5 on 3 was another "whew" moment. The best thing might be the tribute for the Gaudreau's and bringing the kids on to the ice for the team photo. Classy and proof that sports can sometimes bond people into a family.

ReplyDeleteIt was mentioned, just not during the game. They also didn't deserve to be there, and personally, I find it sad that the IOC bends and allows individuals to still compete as independent/unaffiliated participants, which in effect primarily only impacts team sport participation. Russia controls the media within its borders, fully excluding its citizens is a better way to let the people who buy in to the nonsense rationales for their invasion if Ukraine know the world does not agree.
