Jordan Peele just became the first African-American writer ever to win Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars

Jordan Peele just became an Oscar winner.

The Academy has awarded Peele this year's Best Original Screenplay prize for Get Out. He's the fourth African-American writer ever nominated in the category, and the first one ever to win.

Needless to say, people are pretty psyched about it.

Including, of course, Peele and his wife, Chelsea Peretti

Peele beat out several strong contenders for the award, including Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), and Guillermo del Toro and Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water).

Get Out was nominated for three other awards in addition to Best Original Screenplay: Best Director (Peele), Best Lead Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), and Best Picture.

  1. Was the movie that good? I am not familiar with the movie. If it was a great movie then why shouldn't he get the Oscar? If it wasn't then why did he get it?
