MacKenzie Scott, enraged by the wealth gap, is donating $2.7 billion
MacKenzie Scott — a billionaire philanthropist and ex-wife to space boy Jeff Bezos — has pledged to give $2.7 billion to 286 organizations, she announced in a post on Medium post Tuesday.
"Because community-centered service is such a powerful catalyst and multiplier, we spent the first quarter of 2021 identifying and evaluating equity-oriented non-profit teams working in areas that have been neglected," Scott wrote in her Medium post. "The result was $2,739,000,000 in gifts to 286 high-impact organizations in categories and communities that have been historically underfunded and overlooked."
Many of the organizations she is donating to are non-elite public universities and smaller causes — including more than a half dozen non-Ivy League universities and dozens of grassroots organizations.
The organizations span from arts groups like Ballet Hispánico and the Apollo Theater; groups that focus on racial justice, like Race Forward, Borealis Philanthropy, and Chinese for Affirmative Action; higher education institutions like Florida International University and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; and groups focused on gender equity like the Co-Impact Gender Fund. She wrote that she hopes the organizations can use these funds to "buy needed supplies. Find new creative ways to help. Hire a few extra team members they know they can pay for the next five years. Buy chairs for them. Stop having to work every weekend. Get some sleep."
As part of her announcement, she said she was frustrated with the growing wealth gap, and said she worked with a team "to give away a fortune that was enabled by systems in need of change."
"In this effort, we are governed by a humbling belief that it would be better if disproportionate wealth were not concentrated in a small number of hands, and that the solutions are best designed and implemented by others," she wrote.
This is the third round of announcements Scott has made about her philanthropy, according to the Associated Press. In 2019, she signed onto The Giving Pledge, in which some of the world's wealthiest people pledge half of their money to philanthropic causes. In 2020, she gave away billions to 35 colleges she described as providing "education for historically marginalized and underserved people" — predominately HBCUs and institutions that enroll large numbers of Native Americans, according to Inside Higher Ed. And, according to the New York Times, she donated nearly $6 billion to 500 organizations.
Scott says she has way too much money (she does) and is trying to give it away. When will her ex-husband do the same? Maybe when he gets back from space, but we're not holding our breath.
Mackenzie and I go way back....remember that time when we went fishing? Great times. Well I hope to hear from you. :)
ReplyDeleteget that money
Deletewell yah!
DeleteThat's only 5% of her net worth. Big deal.
ReplyDeleteyou can donate 100% of your networth… show us how is it done
Deletehe already does it, on a weekly/monthly basis. so as majority of ppl on this world. (via shopping). nothing left on account to donate further.
Deleteyou clearly know the differences between buying and donating.
Deleteyes, if such person donates 1$, and they do, its 100% of their remaining allowance. (or close by in a sense). they actually sacrifice more by donating 1$ than she does with 2.7 bln.
DeleteI need some! Just trying to take care of my family!
ReplyDeleteI heard she's single. How can I get her phone number?
ReplyDeleteMr's Mackenzie remember me please
ReplyDeleteI'll give her my bank details if she wants ;D ;D
ReplyDeletewho?
ReplyDeleteWhy not divid by every citizen in the US that would be wealth distribution . Non taxable at that!
ReplyDeleteomg you are amazing! I will pass my 8 dollars to you my friend.
DeleteBillionaires never give anything away without it being some underhand investment with returns far greater than they 'donate'. They're always PR stunts
ReplyDeleteMs. Scott I could rent use some cash if you want to help me out
ReplyDeleteI guess she earned it???
ReplyDeleteLemme drop my acc no naa
ReplyDeleteSend me some
ReplyDeleteGive it to me. I'll turn it into more wealth to feed and shelter those that can't.
ReplyDeleteIf there was no wealth gap there would be no rich. That means no jobs or goods and services. Government would have to supply jobs/goods and that would be communism, which is what the left wants.

Deletecommunism is a slippery slope.
Deleteimagine defending multi billionaires. A million seconds is 11.5 days, a billion is 31.5 years, Jeff Bezos would be about 6000 years. No way to justify that when 30% of the country has less than £1500 in savings. But yeah, wanting that gap reduced is communism, absolute bootlicker
Delete“Government please give me his money.”
Delete-government bootlicker
capitalism does not equal greed and disproportional riches.
DeleteCapitalism only means private not state owned.
Now do you know how much tax money Amazon has been evading for years? Worldwide.
Look it up pls. I’m just bringing them up first cos this lady is Jeff Bezos ex spending his money.
So maybe technically she is giving back the money her husband did not pay his shares in the first place.
I think it’s beautiful.
She prob couldn’t sleep at night and I hope she was the one who divorced him.
But like Amazon so many corporations, banks, etc don’t pay taxes + pay very low wages (modern slavery) for more profit, etc etc etc everyone knows the downside of it all. Now this stuff is not capitalism. It’s just been added to the game by those who know how to play.
Capitalism is the best system we have but what people do with it and governments conspire for whatever happens to happen that’s the issue we might never be able to solve.
It comes down to human behaviour & nature. Morals, values, consciousness, etc etc you get my point.
Now watch out for these giant tech companies worth more than countries controlling all the data in the world.
Evolved capitalism allows them to have all the power they now have, monopolies even but this could might as well turn into something very sinister most people are not seeing it coming.
The probability that she is getting rid of all the money is because she knows where she came from, everyone knows what a guy does to be a billionaire, imagine how many people Jeff Bezos must have passed by.
