  1. Well, this is not really "affordable".

  2. Maybe affordable for Americans… but not for the rest of the world.

  4. 10,000 INR for 128 gb more storage is hilarious lol, how scummy. I think 256 gb should be the new normal for phones, but Apple is always far behind at specs.

    ReplyDelete
  5. 499 would have a fire 🔥 price, but that would have killed the 16 series

    ReplyDelete

    1. What do we think happens in September? The 17 comes out and the other ones drop $100 in price as usual? Or the 15 goes away and the 16 drops in price and the 16e just stays the same?

      Delete
    2. They stop producing the 15 models and force people to upgrade to the latest ones if they want the latest AI feature shit. They keep the 16e at $599 and do not lower the price until the following year.

  6. it 128gb that's why before it was 64 only

    1. Respectfully, that doesn't explain the $170 price bump, but it definitely is one of the reasons to why this phone costs more than its predecessor.

      Delete
    2. Doubling the memory probably cost Apple like $0.75 per unit.

  7. This isn't meant to replace the SE its meant to replace the iPhone 14 they were still selling until today

    ReplyDelete

    1. Is it supposed to be a replacement for both phones? I can't find the SE 2022 on Apple's website either.

  8. Stop moaning. And where did Apple say this was an ‘affordable’ iPhone?

    1. They advertised it as a good price or something.

    3. So they can freely bump the prices however they want? lol, jesus some diehard fans can't really criticize their favorite company, right?

    4. What the fuck are you on about? They can charge whatever price they fucking like. It’s not a charity. Stop moaning.

  9. I bought the se for the low priced entry point phone to pair with my other Apple products. This is not what I was hoping for. I’d rather have less features and the $499 price point.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed. The whole point of the SE series is to provide an affordable way to experience the Apple ecosystem, and the 16E doesn't fit in that category in my opinion (which is probably why Apple named this phone the 16E instead of the SE 4, even though ths phone is still considered a new SE generation).

      Delete
    2. The last two iPhone SE is really cheap because it reuses a lot of parts from 2017 iPhone 8 and it is not sustainable at this point. The last update is not really great because the battery is really small and the camera is the same from iPhone 8 in 2017 without night mode. The price increase probably due to the OLED screen and new camera. The new design probably also increase the manufacture cost since they have to adjust the iPhone 14 product line to product it.

  10. I’m disappointed in the lack of MagSafe. In fact it has me worried about the new iPhones this fall. However, it does have a limited wireless charging speed. That gives me hope that the “flagship” iPhones this fall will in fact still be MagSafe compatible… but Apple does weird stuff sometimes

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No way MagSafe goes away. This is just cost saving. Magnets are pretty expensive relatively speaking

      Delete
    2. Is this a serious comment? They removed it because it’s an entry level device and no SE so far has had MagSafe. It has nothing to do with the 17 lineup.

      Delete
  11. And it doesn’t have MagSafe.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. People who buy this phone can’t afford the MagSafe charger anyway

  12. 349 would have been fair value. 599 is absurd

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 349 is a little absurd for an iPhone. The 2022 SE was 429 and that was before three years of inflation

      Delete
    2. It’s not absurd. iPhone isn’t even the best phone out. Apple Intelligence is still in a beta phase. They tricked you into thinking the price should be higher for a premium product.

      Delete
    3. Also disappointed, Germany price starts although at 699 Euro. This is a price increase 34,6% to last SE. SE (2022) started at 519 Euro. SE (2020) started at 479 Euro (my current phone).

Fair economic price for my is around 550 Euro.

      Delete
  13. Honestly I kinda like it. I have a 13 right now that I can probably sell for €250-€300 next year. Using my works phone budget I can buy this one for only a bit extra. And the features are adequate but not too much.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The naming scheme IMO makes ZERO sense unless we get a new one every year. And for $599, it should have had the dynamic Island. Let alone the $699 and $899 prices for storage bumps. And no 120hz display? Unless I missed this on apples site???

Android offers much better handsets at those prices and lower. Getting harder to recommend an iPhone now a days.

    ReplyDelete
  15. In europe this phone sell for 719€! That is more than the current iphone 15 prices here. You would have to be very stupid to buy the 16E. The 15 is way better…

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wait until you get a good look at the crippled feature set. You’ll be even more disappointed once you realize how bad they are screwing the customer.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For real... Four GPU cores instead of five on the 16, and no dynamic island. This phone isn't worth the money, in my opinion.

      Delete
    2. Also no MagSafe with a maximum 7.5w for wireless charging.

      Delete
  17. I think the drump's tariffs are a factor in the price.

    3. ...... cheaper is always a relative term. That's literally what the suffix -er means. It only has meaning in relation to something else.

    4. I think what we’re getting at is it’s presumptuous to use a relatively framed statement here. It would be better to say “Apple unveils a new $599 iPhone 16e”. Then we can make of it what we will as readers.

      Delete
  19. “Apple announced a new iPhone model on Wednesday that is priced lower than its main iPhone models, which usually come out in September.

The new iPhone is called iPhone 16e, and it will retail for $599 when it goes on sale later this month.

The new iPhone 16e doesn’t have a home button and fingerprint sensor, instead, it uses Apple’s FaceID scanner and modern design including a sensor notch at the top of the screen. It uses Apple’s A18 chip, which is also used in the main iPhone 16 models. The updated processor means that the iPhone 16e can run all the same apps and games that more expensive iPhones can run. It comes in black and white”

  20. hmmm, maybe i will try apple again

    ReplyDelete
  21. The starting price is $599, which is wild to me

    ReplyDelete
  22. the main feature seems to be ai but ai on phones isn’t even impressive yet

  24. Why would a pro phone owner be excited for an E version? Of course it would be a downgrade.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Plus that 13 to 17 is only 4 gens of iPhones. You could easily skip it for a few years to come. I'm on base 12 and I will upgrade when AI is much more stable and built into the phone.

      Delete
    2. It’s a downgrade in some areas (screen tech, camera array), but an upgrade in others (chip, connector, camera mp). Also, price. 16 pro isn’t a 999$ better phone than 13 pro. But if, as leaks suggested, u could get a 16e for 200$ (w 13 pro trade-in), thats an incredible value for what u do get (an incredibly future proof iphone).

      Delete
    3. The only upgrade I can see really is built in AI. Which is not ready yet.

      Delete
    4. depends of the number too lol

  25. No need to upgrade. replace your battery and save your money.

    1. This is where I am at. I want to upgrade but I don’t like being stuck with eSIM. Wondering if getting an overseas iPhone that still has the physical sim to use in the U.S. will be a good option

  26. My 13 Pro works flawlessly and I still like it. I also own a Pixel 7a as secondary device and currently tend to upgrade to a Pixel 9/10 (Pro) as it feels like Apple lost its way…

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Same here but I’ve been using the base Cobalt Violet S24 as my secondary device. And it’s been great! It has more features than my 13 Pro & it’s reallyyy nice in the hand. It’s such a better price for what you’re getting too compared to a new Pro iPhone. Getting the S24 was my first step out of the Apple ecosystem, I think my next phone will be a Pixel or OnePlus as I want to know/experience what else is out there before settling!

      Delete
  27. Why replace your 13? Is there any specific reason you're urged to buy a new phone? Is it just USB-C?

I see all this as a glass half full: the longer Apple keeps releasing mediocre phones, the more money I save by keeping my 13 around.

I'm still super happy with it. iOS 18 is buggy as hell, but that's not the phone's fault. I was considering the 16e as a secondary work phone, but not at that insane price.

    1. Honestly yea, it’s just usbc 😂 All of my other devices charge via usbc, down to my cats’ toys, so I’m anxious to ditch lighting asap. But I agree with your sentiment, the 13 pro’s longevity is impressive (coming from someone who used to “upgrade” every other year).

      Delete
  28. I used to be someone who would upgrade every year or every other year, but I think I’ll hold onto to the 13pro for a while more. My dream phone is the mini size with 13pro specs (or better). Maybe one day…

    1. Same. Give me the mini pro version and I’ll trade my life savings lol

      Delete
  29. I typically upgrade 2-4 years. My iPhone 13 Pro is feeling a bit slow and outdated. Really looking forward to the 17 pro.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I owned Pixels for years and moved to 13 pro refurb from Apple last year. It is a MUCH better phone than anything Google has put out. No chance I would go back.

You are right the 16e is underwhelming. The deal breaker for me is no MagSafe.

Give it a year or two and get a 15 or 16 pro refurb.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Is the 13 pro has an aftermarket battery?

      Delete
    2. I bought it refurb’ed from Apple direct. They put a new battery in all refurb units. It’s a great deal and I have no complaints.

      Delete
  31. I was just reading all about the phone and really the SoC is better and the battery will be better and it will have Apple intelligence and a action button.

But in other areas 13 Pro is better (to me at least).

I got to say I find it funny that apple is fully embracing USB C and it's being used as a selling point for the 16e as if it is a feature. Yes it is a feature technically but they only added it to iPhone models in the first place due to the European Union and the fines they were going to receive unless they changed their charging point.

Now they've manipulated this into a marketing win.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don’t understand the appeal of this at 600 compared to 700 for the 15

    1. The 15 is dropped now.

    2. Really? I can still see it for sale on the US website.

    3. The only real pull could be Apple Intelligence support, for those who are interested, that is. 😉

  33. With that C modem I might have to get the 17 Pro this year, apple claims it improves battery life and if the speeds are great, I’ll upgrade BUT for now 13 Pro for now 4 years running

    ReplyDelete
  34. the 13 pro has essentially become my secondary phone, as I recently "upgraded" to a s23 ultra. a lot of people I know default to iMessage, so fwiw, the 13 pro will satisfy my needs for a good while. if anything, I can always upgrade to a 14 pro for ~150 usd after selling my 13 pro, but only when that time comes.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I’m a 13P as well as a 16P user, I’m thanking myself that i got the 16P, coz as Apple is releasing new phones the value for money and the Apple vibe for me is just degrading…

    ReplyDelete
  36. I was soooo looking forward to this one, finally a normal sized iphone with a single camera. But no magsafe at this price point is such a dick move from Apple

    ReplyDelete
  37. I want to upgrade from my old Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and not sure to pick a new iPhone 13 or buy a Pixel 8 or 8 Pro...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi iPhone 16 Pro user here! I’ve had the 13 Pro from January 2022 till September 2024. It definitely is a difference but after a month it’s not that special and not a big of a change after all. I love the 16 Pro but the 13 Pro also did the job. If I were u, u should wait for the 17 (Pro). All the rumours that im hearing rn about the upcoming series is bigger than the last few years with the 14/15/16.

    ReplyDelete
  39. hold on your 13 pro the 16e compares w 11,12,12mini not even 13 i have gone into the details of the specs

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don’t like that camera bar either.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I’m not sure why 13 Pro owners are looking at the 16e? It clearly is NOT meant as a replacement for our phones. It is an upgrade for anyone coming from an older iPhone SE.

I know I’m not in the market for the iPhone 16e. I buy Pro iPhones because I care about all the little things and the iPhone 16e is for users who care about price over all the nice to haves.

I am a bit nervous about the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max. Mainly because Apple tends to need one more iteration after introducing any substantially new design to smooth out rough edges. I don’t really want to wait one MORE year for the iPhone 18 Pro but I have a feeling that is going to be the next 13 pro (ie notably better than the releases immediately before and after it).

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would probably get the iPhone 16e after Apple breaks my iPhone 13 Pro while replacing it’s battery.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Man all of these phones are the same. I’m keeping this phone (13pro) until they change it up. Thank you Apple

    ReplyDelete

    1. 100% agree. Only reason I was even considering “upgrading” was for usbc

      Delete
  44. Happily had my iPhone 13 Pro since launch, and will give it at least another year until I think about upgrading. With the disappointment of the 16e and Apple’s apparent lack of care for iOS stability in favour of crappy Apple Intelligence, I’m now pretty seriously considering other options outside of the walled garden.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Prices of new 15 Pros are falling and falling. Maybe you can get the a great deal ?

    ReplyDelete
  46. 13pro is just too good.

For me it hit that critical mass of gaming performance and doesn't have a superfluous amount to play those AAA games that really have no business being on a phone.

If my phone exploded tomorrow I'd probably go for a mid range android phone just to try it out but I hear their software shits itself in two years time

    ReplyDelete
  47. If they released 120hz on the 16e I’d instantly downgrade from the 16 pro and go for that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I just traded in my cracked 13 Pro for a 16 Pro with AT&T for the full value of a non-damaged trade-in.

It was cheaper in the long run to do so than replace the screen.

The 16e has no value to me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don’t mind MOST of the 16e. The kicker for me was no ultra wideband support..

    ReplyDelete
  50. I compared my 13 Pro with the 16e on the Apple shop site and the “upgrade” isn’t worth it. Battery life would be longer but losing pro res and the cameras wouldn’t be worth it. Also not interested in AI. So I’ll stick with my 13 Pro and change the battery when the time comes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I knew it had to be gimped somehow for the 15 & 16 to still make sense, but I did not expect that.

    1. And this is exactly the point.

They don’t want this phone appearing like a perfect upgrade at a better price for anyone upgrading from a 12-14

I figured the camera would be enough

      Delete
    2. Just wondering why you want to switch from the 13 pro? It honestly seems better in every way to this.

      Delete
    3. New device itch, but you’re right. There’s really no reason to move to it, save for maybe USB-C. X was my last phone prior to this and I’d argue the 13pro doesn’t even feel like a significant jump from that.

I have been trying to stick with this phone for a long as possible. The battery is probably the only thing that I have issues with now even after replacing it, but it’s really not that bad. Otherwise the phone is very capable and I should really run it until it dies.

      Delete
    4. Same here. Too many limitations and price is too high. Would just rather get the iPhone 16 instead.

      Delete

    5. Same! I invested a lot in MagSafe! I have the official portable battery pack; MagSafe charger stand for the phone and watch; a MagSafe docking station…

I’ll just buy a used iPhone 15 or something.

      Delete
    6. It just feels like pointless product segmentation. For the 80%+ of people who use a phone case, it's trivial to add magsafe back in. Hell, as an Android user, I've had "magsafe" cases on my phones since the S21.

      Delete
  54. This is a very deliberate choice.

A calculated omission, to drive people to the other phones

Imagine how their lineup is going to appear in stores now.

This phone won’t be sat on a MagSafe type stand the way all the newer flagship phones are.

It will sit off to the side on one of those old school charging docks.

When a customer goes to pick it up it will feel older immediately than the phones that magically/magnetically clip on and off.

    2. What docks? Apple is picky with how it displays its phones and there no such thing as usb c dock from Apple.

      Delete
    3. they use proprietary MagSafe stands in the stores... they will have some sort of USB-C Dock built into their tables before long too

I sorta doubt the 16e will just be laying on the tables connected via usb-c

apple will still want it upright on some kind of stand

    4. I think this is the right take. I hope so otherwise this fall is gonna be a weird one for iPhone releases

  55. What a waste of time & money, apple had a perfect chance to win a ton of consumers making a “budget” model (successor to the SE) but of course they pulled an Apple

I’d rather they simplify the lineup & kill the 15 as well & make the 16e exist

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They will most likely kill the 15 in September, when the 17 family launches.

      Delete
    2. They will, but then they’d still sell 16s. The point is by the time the 17 launches, they’ll still have 16s available just like right now where the 15s are still available in the 16 lifecycle

      Delete
    3. Why would they “simplify the lineup” when they have normal price tiering, device by device.

What happened is that they made a device that is no longer a huge outlier. It now looks like it belongs in the lineup. The name itself is just marketing.

      Delete
    4. ok that doesn’t mean it isn’t overpriced by itself

  56. I’m still gonna buy it, as the 256gb is STILL $200 cheaper than the 16 256gb. I don’t use the “MagSafe” at all on my current iPhone, so it’s not a huge loss for me being that the 16e won’t have it. I’m more hyped that the camera is 48mp and it will be able to do ALL the Apple Intelligence features and it has the Action button

    2. Yeah, I understand completely what you mean. For me personally being somebody that has tried it, but just hasn’t found the real day to day use for it. That’s why it’s not a huge loss for me like I don’t even do the MagSafe charging, I charge my phone with the wire plug straight into my phone lol

    3. your phone charges faster, so at least there is that 🙂

    4. For me personally I just don’t see paying another $40-$50 for the MagSafe charger/cord alone when my current $20 dollar apple 20w brick does just fine lol. Like I even bought the iPhone 16 from Apple 2wks ago just for the new AI features I had it for a week then returned it when the rumors came in with the specs for the new iPhone se4/16e leaked. I had the 16 256gb model totaling to $982 after taxes. Now I can get the 16e have the same Apple Intelligence features, same 6.1 60hz screen, and have the same 48mp camera for $200 less.

    3. Everyone who bought into MagSafe is locked into the next iPhone tier or higher.

I wanted to upgrade to this too, but I “need” MagSafe now.

  67. Well there will be 3rd party magsafe cases soon

  68. just Apple being Apple. Without cutting this feature, this one would be too similar to the base 16.
I will probably get one "for free" through my workplace in a few months (my 13 mini's battery is aging), but the idea of switching back to a traditional non-magsafe wallet.... ugh...

  69. what the fuck? i thought they wanted it to be part of their standard moving forward. pretty odd to leave all those customers out of a lot of their accessories on a phone theyre offering in 2025

  70. Others are saying it can still wirelessly charge, right? So, would it still have the magnets to align with a wireless charger like the Belkin MagSafe Charger 3-in-1 but not use the tracking features of the Apple wallet? Or is it no wireless charging period? Are their cases that have a thin USB-C cable with an attachment built in to enable wireless charging?

  71. Odd that Apple is not selling MagSafe cases for the 16E.

The 3rd party market will fill this gap really quickly, but this seems like it would have been a pretty easy sell internally.

  72. What a joke, considering all that it’s missing from this phone, 599 is a tall ask.

  73. No mmWave, no MagSafe, only WiFi 6, and even with the “most efficient” modem in this phone still overall has less battery life than the normal 16. I would rather pay $200 more and get the normal 16.

  74. Are you fucking kidding me?! Wow just wow

  75. It mean that Magsafe can be added by phone cover?

  76. absolute dealbreaker to me. i thought i would be super annoyed being stuck with a regular 15 when this 16e came out but nope. im good.

  77. Remember the fearmongering five years ago about how MagSafe was going to let Apple get rid of the charging port?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I knew it wouldn’t happen but I really wanted a physical sim tray. E Sims are great but are often still more expensive than buying cheap local sim and plan

  79. Damn. That’s a dealbreaker .. I want to have this for my kid as nightstand etc , and he already had a MagSafe powerbank. Too bad , what’s the magnets, a dollar ?!

  80. Can't you buy a MagSafe case for this phone and use the case's magnet to connect accessories though?

  81. cook era apple and moronic product segmentation, name a more iconic duo (rip steve, you had the right approach)

  82. It still has QI though. Not as fast, but cheaper and gets the work done.

  83. Rumor is the magnets in the MagSafe was causing issues with the antennas, which would make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Honestly, you do you if you like MagSafe but I’ve never seen the point of it.

I’ve used a MagSafe charger. It has zero benefits over a regular charger — you still have to be next to a plug, but it’s also harder to pick up and use your phone while keeping it charging, it charges slower and it makes my phone super hot. I also save a ton of money on cases by buying $10 ones on Amazon that aren’t MagSafe compatible.

I don’t need a car mount because I use CarPlay with a wired connection.

Just a solution in search of a problem, IMO

  85. I don't really care about the charging speed, but I do care about the magnets. I have a 13 Mini with a failing battery and, despite still wanting the mini form factor, I was pretty set to upgrade to the new SE, now 16e, to get more battery life & support for Apple's AI (not for today, but for future updates). I can get by with the other "SE" downgrades, but I use MagSafe a lot outside of just charging (wallet, car mount, desk stand, TV & monitor mounts for continuity camera, tripod, other mounts I have installed around my house).

The 16e looks to be using a 14 form factor, so the magnets should fit, and the cost would have to be negligible, especially when they have increased the price from the SE anyway. It's just a very annoying omission.

    2. This is kind of bullshit. I actually recently got a MagSafe charger in part because I was expecting to use it with this phone. I figured regardless of whatever else it may or may not have, it would at least have this very basic feature.

    3. Definitely sucks there’s no MagSafe, but it will still work as a Qi charger, just won’t magnetically attach.

    4. Which is worthless. My current iPhone SE 2020 has the same thing, and I never use it. I want something I could attach to the phone while I'm using it.

  93. The lack of MagSafe has me worried about the new iPhones this fall. However, it does have a limited wireless charging speed. That gives me hope that the “flagship” iPhones this fall will in fact still be MagSafe compatible… but Apple does weird stuff sometimes
