Mark your calendars. Apple's signature iPhone launch event is expected to take place on Sept. 7.
According to Bloomberg business reporter Mark Gurman, "people with knowledge of the matter" say the iPhone 14 and possibly a new Apple Watch Series 8 will be unveiled, as is the historical norm for the first of the company's two September events.
Insiders anticipate the iPhone 14 Pro will replace the dreaded front-facing camera notch with a "pill-shaped hole" and a "hole-punch-sized area" for the camera, and be upgraded with Apple's in-house A16 chip. The iPhone 14 line will also reportedly no longer offer a 5.4-inch "mini" model and will, instead, include a 6.7-inch non-Pro variant. Also, according to the report, the A15 chip which powers the current iPhone 13 line will remain in the standard iPhone 14 models.

As Gurman notes, despite dwindling smartphone sales due to inflation and a pandemic-ravaged economy, the iPhone 13 line performed well last quarter and with 90 million units ordered from suppliers, demand is expected to sustain. In other words, consumer enthusiasm for the iPhone — which accounts for over half of Apple's sales — is still going strong.
Indications that the unveiling will occur Sept. 7 come from Gurman's report that retail store employees have reportedly been asked to prepare for a Sept. 16 product release. This lines up with the typical timeline of opening sales a week and a half after the product launch. He also pointed out that corporate employees will be required to work in the office three days a week starting Sept. 5, which is two days before the event is rumored to occur.
As with previous Apple events during the pandemic, this one will likely be streamed online from its Cupertino, CA headquarters. Will we finally lose the notch? Will Apple Daddy make another appearance? It's all speculation at this point, but that's the way Apple likes it.

ReplyDeleteSeptember 13th makes much more sense given prior event dates.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll be happy if it's sooner
It’s usually Tuesdays, but it’s Wednesdays if they choose to hold the event the week of Labor Day, which they usually only do if Labor Day falls after September 5, or if they choose to hold the event the week after Labor Day, and that Tuesday happens to be September 11, where they obviously refuse to hold events on that date.
Past event dates:
Tuesday, September 12, 2006
Wednesday, September 5, 2007
Tuesday, September 9, 2008
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
Wednesday, September 1, 2010

The article title makes it sound like it’s official.
ReplyDeleteit’s not
I thought so too. I thought the announcement was official. If Apple holds its iPhone event on September 7th. We can expect the invites to go out within 2 weeks?

It's still a rumor, not official
ReplyDelete"It's still a rumor, not official"
DeleteWell, it's not like the site is called macFACTS!
I currently have 10 payments left on my current phone... Methinks I'll get the 14 in December or so (obviously paying extra to get the total of what I owe down). 13 -> 14 won't be a big jump in tech for me but im definitely going to get a higher capacity phone (got stuck with 128 GB when I got this phone). Looking forward to it. Also the W8 will be a nice upgrade as I skipped the 7.
ReplyDeleteIsn’t that the same week as labour day?
ReplyDeleteoh well, that much closer to an upgrade 😁
A Wednesday!?!?
ReplyDeleteThe week of Labor Day and on a Wednesday, ain’t happening. It’ll be the week after on Tuesday the 13th.
ReplyDeleteMan, there will be a huge dent on my Bank Account, specially someone who buys two standard 14 and 14 Pro Max like every year 🙄
ReplyDeleteOoo kinda early this year!
ReplyDeleteSweet. My wallet is ready.
Edit: my Apple Card is ready.
So order that Friday and get my 14 Pro one week later. Bring it on! And if Watch also announced I'm going to have a pretty big credit card bill next month.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me! My wallet is ready.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, a week early this year if true. I guess that makes sense why the software betas are already on a 1-week update cycle.
