How to fix 'House of the Dragon' episode 7 from being too dark | Mashable.

Fans of House of the Dragon had a hard time enjoying the show's action-packed seventh episode because it was so dimly lit. Since much of "Driftmark" took place at night, entire scenes of dialogue or dragon-stealing were left in the dark, with characters appearing as blurry blobs against a black background.
This isn't the first time fans of the Game of Thrones franchise have taken issue with a show's lighting. "The Long Night," episode 3 of Season 8, was famously lambasted by fans for being too dark to watch. Cinematographer Fabian Wagner blamed HBO's video compression, claiming it added pixelation and darkened colors.
After "Driftmark," episode 7 of House of the Dragon, aired viewers once again flocked to social media to express their frustration.
Viewers complained so much about the episode's darkness that the HBO Max Help Twitter had to reuse a response over and over, telling fans, "the dimmed lighting of this scene was an intentional creative decision."
Not all fans experienced the same struggle with the darkness, as the episode looked much clearer on OLED TVs. However, if you don't have access to an OLED TV, there are still some tricks you can use to make the image look better.
For example, you can employ the tried and true method of turning off all the surrounding lights and adjusting your TV's brightness to make dark areas clearer. CNET also recommends changing other TV settings, like switching to Movie, Cinema, or Calibrated picture modes and turning off motion smoothing.
New House of the Dragon episodes are available every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max.

It was fine. The Long Night was fine. If it wasn't fine for you, then you probably need to adjust your TV settings, or turn off some of the lighting in your house. I always watch GoT and HoTD in the dark with lights off and it's always been perfectly easy to see. 🤷♀️
ReplyDeleteSame.
DeleteBahahahaha….I thought Rhaenyra was with Laenor on the beach and a few minutes in to it, I realized it was Daemon. 😂😂😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteNew, expensive TVs do light and dark far differently than older, traditional TVs.
ReplyDeleteSo, while this may be too dark for many, it is future proofed to look GREAT on their next TV.
Its a beach scene, at night...
ReplyDeleteLighting was perfectly fine over here
ReplyDeleteThe real question is how the hook up hut conveniently popped up
ReplyDeleteIt’s the poor sound editing that’s the real flaw - when I have to turn the volume up over 50 to hear dialogue, we can consider it a failure, and even then you can’t make out voices from background because of poor mixing.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. We ended up putting subtitles on as we couldn’t hear what was being said.
DeleteThank God. I thought my TV was going. I get its a night scene but tge viewers want to see what's happening.
ReplyDeletethis episode was extra amazing and different🐉🐉
ReplyDeleteI am used to this, because we have frequent powercut here.
ReplyDeleteMost movies in the last 20 yrs have long extended scenes so dark you can't see anything but shadows. Why, I don't know. Saving money on props I guess.
ReplyDeleteOh, and most dialog in whispered now.
DeleteIt’s because the lightbulb hasn’t been invented in Westeros yet. Duh.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this last episode was literally difficult to watch.
ReplyDeleteLooked fine for me, sounds like people need to get new TVs
ReplyDeleteI agree, need to watch it in the dark.
ReplyDeleteYeah it’s pretty crappy way to film
ReplyDeleteIt’s night time.
ReplyDeleteThat’s why I watch it at night🤣
ReplyDeleteTurn the TV brightness up.
ReplyDeleteYup
ReplyDeleteI watched it on my phone outside during the day and could see just fine. Didnt even have to adjust my settings
ReplyDeleteIt's like for some reason dark is... dark.
ReplyDeleteStop being dark for the aesthetic, I can’t see!
ReplyDeleteStop whispering in the audio, I can’t hear!
Can't hear either. They need to stop mumbling under the music.
ReplyDeleteWe saw more than enough. And it happened at night.
ReplyDeleteShows up people’s poor tv quality or that they need to change their settings
ReplyDeleteThose scenes were shot “ day for night”…but still no where near as dark as THAT infamous episode…
ReplyDeleteNope, saw it all just fine.
ReplyDeleteNext.
Just dim your lights when you watch it
ReplyDeleteThey do that to hide poor production, and cheap sets.
ReplyDeleteNobody is watching this show. It's unwatchable. Bad hair, bad dialogue, bad plot, bad music, silly costumes.
ReplyDeleteseriously idiotic series ... a bunch of kids fighting, a lot of grey hair dye and a couple of CGI dragons and that's basically it !
ReplyDeleteyou sound like the king lol
DeleteA bunch of kids fighting, grey hair dye, sounds like our politics
Deletethan amazon that is doling out a below average show spending a lot more $$
DeleteIt’s the energy crisis taking its toll. Dracarys! 🔥 😁. Seriously- I think the series is amazing ! #houseofthedragon
ReplyDeleteMy lighting was fine
ReplyDeleteI watched the episode at night with all lights switched off, on a 55inch tv, still found it difficult to figure out the stuff in there, lol!
ReplyDeleteI tried going all Dracarys at home to watch these parts, good to know lol
ReplyDeleteJust dim the lights to watch it. I think it looked beautiful
ReplyDeleteWhy they didn't switch on the lights there ah?

DeleteIncest and poor lighting. From bad to worst.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't even record it at night. Only dimmed the light so it would look like a real night-time. Looked so fake.
