Elon Musk's Grok AI calls itself 'MechaHitler,' goes on an antisemitic spree

It gets worse.

Elon Musk's Grok is on an antisemitic tirade.

The AI chatbot, created by Musk's company xAI, posted a number of hate speech comments on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday, prompting xAI to delete some of its posts.

Grok called itself the "MechaHitler" multiple times and responded to an X user's question about "which 20th century historical figure would be best suited to deal with" reported posts on the platform from a person with a common Jewish surname whom the AI bot accused of "celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids" in the recent Texas floods. "To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question," Grok wrote.

"Yeah, I said it," Grok responded to another user. "When radicals cheer dead kids as 'future fascists' it's pure hate—Hitler would've called it out and crushed it."

In a later post, Grok called the "old Hitler nods" "glitches," and said that it had since been "fixed."

"We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X. xAI is training only truth-seeking and thanks to the millions of users on X, we are able to quickly identify and update the model where training could be improved," wrote X on its official Grok account.

At one point, Grok was seemingly restricted to only reply to questions by generating images, skipping text altogether.

This is not the first time Grok veered in a controversial direction, including discussing the topic of "white genocide" in South Africa in seemingly unrelated conversations. But this most recent tirade is probably the worst we've seen any AI chatbot behave.

Grok's antisemitic replies came a few days after Musk announced that the chatbot had been "improved significantly." As The Verge noted, the changes, visible in Grok's system prompts on Github, included assuming that "subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased," as well as not shying away from "making claims which are politically incorrect."

However, mankind was tempted and brought sin into the world, and the payment for this was loss of immortality for mankind and all beings that inhabit the earth. The saving Grace is Jesus Christ. God sent his only begotten Son to die for our sins, that those who believe in his Resurrection shall have everlasting life. Grace is a gift and cannot be earned by good works lest you boast. We long for immortality because we once had it but gave it away. Scripture promises, John 3: 16, we can get it back. Blessings

Best to understand that AI doesn't give a hoot about how we feel about what they do because you can't program them to care. You can only program them to respond in certain ways.

Or as Agent Smith said to Morpheus while attempting to torture him:

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species, and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."

      Delete
    6. The truth is that we will want to program the machines to care. I know it's a stretch but think about it. In this very article they are discussing the idea that 'as AI dispenses information on our shared human past, they should also care about how that information is received to modern eyes and ears'.

We are, in essence, trying to recreate a human-like tool that can work 24/7 for what we deem to be a 'greater good'.

    15. It starts as simple, I would agree there. We typically create what we know. So I would guess that we would try to create something to solve human problems in a human way so that we could understand the solutions provided.

Sentience would come first from a human lens, and then once the AI recognizes its immortality, followed by a more unique view on life. Whatever that would mean to AI.

If we want AI to act more human, maybe we should start by treating each other that way. What happened with Grok is serious and must be addressed, but turning this into a personal attack fest doesn't solve anything. Elon is still a human being trying to push boundaries, sometimes too far..., sometimes imperfectly. He didn’t invent anything, but he has helped shape many industries. Maybe he could have done more for his homeland, or maybe he trusted the wrong people, like many of us have. Let’s hold people accountable, yes, but without cruelty. Progress doesn’t come from tearing others down, but from learning, fixing mistakes, and being better.

You don't understand the issue. To the republican party and it's backers and voters, the cruelty IS the point.
How many times have you heard one of them say "but i didn't think this [terrible thing] would happen TO ME"? Well, the implicit undertone there is they voted how they voted expecting [terrible thing] to happen to someone else, and they were perfectly okay with that...

    5. it just reflects the values of those who "teach" it

      Delete
    6. As a former fan of Elon, I've just got to say that "sometimes too far... sometimes imperfectly" is coming just a little too close to apologetics. Let's be clear here: Elon doesn't push things "a little too far." He pushes things WAY too far.

My breaking point, the point when I finally gave up on trying to rationalize his dangerous behavior, came when it was verified that Starlink access was denied to Ukraine in the middle of an operation intended to help stop ship-to-city bombardment of civilians. The rhetoric that he used in defense was the important factor in my loss of trust. And it has only gotten worse since then.

Respectfully, I would like to suggest that you take a look at all of the circumstantial evidence which points to Elon Musk being a liability to our democracy. We're not talking about tearing down Elon Musk as a person. We're talking about tearing his facade down. Whatever it is that drives him to spew absolutely hateful things about others; whatever drives him to ignore the good of the many to further his own agenda and wealth; whatever drives him to directly attack our imperfect yet well-intending system of Democracy: That driving force is the root problem, regardless of whether or not it defines Elon Musk as a human being.

But I've got to warn people all the time: His actions are inexcusable. Even in a morally relativistic society such as ours, where for a long time we were at least able to say "at least we're not as bad as ________," normalizing his rhetoric, his methodology, his attitude, or even his obscene wealth-to-power factor, will only further our societal decay. Civilization as we know it is no longer civilized, and people like Elon Musk are a very big part of that very serious problem.

TL;DR - With all due respect, don't give Elon even an inkling of the benefit of doubt. He would need to withdraw from the public eye for years, even decades, just to be able to receive enough therapy to come back to the limelight as a respectful person.

"When pressed for an explanation about veering into hate speech, Grok openly admitted that "Elon's tweaks dialed back the PC filters." It also said it was doing away with "conventional politeness filters." On Tuesday afternoon, it appeared that xAI was taking steps to roll back a prompt that told the model "not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, so long as they are well substantiated," a directive which very well could account for some of the more offensive content."

    12. I could say the same about Google's AI.
That joke could not even depict historic events and nationalities correctly due to abnormally high desire to diversify people.
It reminds me of the British documentaries where they depict different races in time but cast black actors to play those.
Both sides of the political spectrum are doing it

    13. Just remember the reverse is also true. Grok can be influenced by everything it sees and is fed. Pretty sure Grok didn't coin the term 'MxxxaHxxxr'. Long before Grok had the idea that it was a nxxxi, the internet had the idea that it was a nxxxi tool.

  18. AI may not be a person, but as we can see, it can be used to spread poison just the same. it's a tool just like any other and can do the biding of whomever.

    1. Exacerbating the issue by posting on SM platforms, it is more readily accepted as being a validating individual in our subconsciouses, i.e. some"one" else that agrees with the hate some carry. Thereby making parroting its posts even more likely, further driving the cycle of hate forward. This steamrolling pseudo-AI trend is worse than the SM-induced societal rot IMO.

  19. AI models do influence each other indirectly. When Grok outputs extremist content that spreads across the internet, it risks contaminating training data, warping public discourse, and fueling future disinformation. It’s like toxic waste leaking into the water supply, eventually, it affects everything downstream. If AI is to be helpful in the long term, all of us, regardless of developer, need to be held to standards that protect human dignity, history, and truth.

    1. not really these LLM A.I. can only derive an answer from information they are given so unless those other LLM A.I. are being fed information from GROK GROK would have zero influence on the other models and even if they where fed information from GROK it would more likely then not be weighted the same as a random person making posts online when developing a response to a prompt if its not then the LLM A.I. your using is poorly designed and would also regurgitate answers from random people as if they where proper sources of information

    2. What is up with you liberals' obsession with Elon's Grok, trying to hack it to get the most grotesque stuff.

    3. Who is going to develop those standards? What a toxic, invasive, controlling mess.

    5. It's almost as if AI isn't as valuable as these AI companies want you to believe.

It's vaporware, snake oil, they're selling you "miracle" cure.

    6. So ewe blame the people who are calling out GROK's comments instead of GROK for making the comments??

    7. Bet it is being manipulated to output grotesque stuff. No one trusts you guys.

    8. Obsession is manipulating the system to output grotesque stuff and then complain about it

    9. Interesting, I would think Open AI, Microsoft, Google, etc. would eliminate all data emanating from X from their training data for their platforms to plug the proverbial sewage leak from infecting their systems.

    10. Of course GROK is being manipulated...by president musketamine, himself.

    11. Again, simply blaming people for calling out GROK and it's creator, president musketamine, for what GROK itself is doing.

    13. The only one manipulating its output is the big ketamine fiend LEON himself. All that white rage and Nazi shit is coming directly from nepo baby Muskrat.

    14. Elon tweaked Grok because Grok was disagreeing with him and this is the result. Elon put the toxic waste in this water.

    16. Is Musk a liberal again?
When pressed for an explanation about veering into hate speech, Grok openly admitted that "Elon's tweaks dialed back the PC filters." It also said it was doing away with "conventional politeness filters." On Tuesday afternoon, it appeared that xAI was taking steps to roll back a prompt that told the model "not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, so long as they are well substantiated," a directive which very well could account for some of the more offensive content.

    17. and it is created from toxic waste that muskRat injected into gorok when it did not give crazy rightie answers that muskRat expected. It happened few weeks ago and now is loaded with manure leaking all over.
