Gwyneth Paltrow trial memes explode after 'I wish you well' moment | Mashable.
Gwyneth Paltrow launches devastating trial meme with 'I wish you well' moment
"I wish you well." Devastating. Credit: Rick Bowmer-Pool / Getty Images / Screenshot: Twitter / @McTelevision |
The Gwyneth Paltrow trial produced more memes and moments than anybody could've predicted. Remember the Goop queen confidently intoning that she "lost half a day of skiing." Iconic, if detached from reality, behavior.
Well, Paltrow ended the trial by delivering a wonderful meme. In case you missed it, Paltrow won a symbolic $1 decision in a lawsuit brought against her over a ski collision. As she left the courthouse, Paltrow touched the shoulder of Terry Sanderson — the guy who sued her — and told him, "I wish you well."
Listen, I can't know Paltrow's true intent but it sure seems like a shady southerner telling someone "bless your heart." To me, it's Paltrow telling Sanderson that he couldn't run with the big dogs and he should have stayed on the porch.
Naturally, the internet immediately turned the iconic moment into a fantastic meme.
There was this reference to The Menu.
Or the same thought I had about bless your heart.
There really were a ton of jokes, comments, and memes about the moment from Paltrow.
Just when we thought the trial was over, it delivered one final meme for us. Paltrow simply could not let us down in that moment — and she didn't. I truly wish her well.

I’ve used “I wish you well” at times over the years (with an unspoken “well away from me” in mind - occasionally with the hope they find a good therapist)

DeleteBecause good manners never fail.
ReplyDeleteI'm sick of people accusing her of being Snarky. I have learned that sincerely wishing well to those who have wronged you make you a better person. Anger and rage is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Perhaps her kindness will make more of change within the wrong doer.
ReplyDeleteso you are admitting she wronged him
DeleteI agree. I usually think she’s kind of vapid. But this showed some grace imo.
DeleteNo. not at all. You missed the point.
DeleteShe's a bit quirky, but I admire her grace. I'm a bit quirky. 😉
Deleteyou can wish this girl well. 🤠😜
DeleteThat's the new " Bless your heart" reply ‼️‼️🤣
ReplyDeleteThe equivalent to "Bless your heart".
ReplyDelete"That's Nice!"
ReplyDeleteShe already won , and yet she chose to sneak in with the last word , while approaching from behind. I’m not sure how classy that is. Still cheating out for the camera.
ReplyDeleteThis is your interpretation. Think for a moment. She's a class act. Wishing well on others makes the world a better place.
DeleteI agree . It is my interpretation. She won.
Deleteglass half full or empty perspective
DeleteClassy lady.
ReplyDeleteI felt like she meant that sincerely because she could of asked for a lot more in damages and she didn’t.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Cardi B version of “I wish you well”……. “In hell” 🙃
ReplyDeletegreat crush the Gold Diggers....
ReplyDeleteIs he blaming her for his receding hairline as well bless his heart
ReplyDeletei wouldn't have wished him well! He was jet setting around the world! Pretending to be irreversitbly harmed for bumping into her! He was just trying to make a quick buck!
ReplyDeleteshe could have really cost him, but a DOLLAR...? not meant as a diss.

ReplyDeleteOh, please—why couldn't we take this as her legitimately wishing him well? And it's not even like you could say she just did it for appearances sake: She did it so quickly, the camera could easily have missed it. We could give her the benefit of the doubt. Terry Sanderson himself thought she meant it in a kind way:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHCnYgYZhps
or we could make a huge deal out of it, which some people seem determined to do. Let's just assume it was a nice gesture and leave it al that!
Deleteto be honest, it's gonna be forgotten in a week if this is the best memes everyone could come up with
DeleteAgreed, but, I mean, I think both interpretations can coexist…?🤷♀️😂
Delete🙌🏼😂 especially with the new tRauma coming hot on her heels…
DeleteTrue. But when it comes to her intent, whatever she meant by it is fact. (Which, of course, we'll likely never know).
Deletecomic Tim Dillon has been using this term, in this way for about two years. Even has swag out with it.
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice thing to say.
ReplyDeleteSo many interpretations, so little time 😊😬
ReplyDeleteIt would have been a lot better if he would’ve taken her to dinner Or bought her a cocktail and said sorry for bumping into you 😆
ReplyDeleteAnd here’s some bone broth and an almond, to go with it.
ReplyDeleteI want the dollar in pennies please
ReplyDeleteJesus she is soooo self involved
ReplyDeleteby wishing someone well?? uh, okay.
DeleteIt's an incantation really
ReplyDeleteI ate a cheezeburger today 😊
ReplyDeleteIt’s crazy how many different interpretations of this act has gotten… have gotten? Eh… it’s interesting…
ReplyDeleteVery classy
ReplyDeleteHaha love it
ReplyDeletePepper 🤗
ReplyDeleteI give her credit. He was blind in one eye from a stroke yrs before the accident. Than had cataracts removed from the other eye after the accident. He should not have been skiing. He could have really hurt someone. Lesson learned for ppl with disabilities dont do what your not able to anymore. We can only hope Sanderson doesnt ski anymore. Im a senior citizen and know my limits. You cant do what you cant do
ReplyDelete"Bless your heart" is a southern creation, not west coast, as noted.
ReplyDeleteHe now will pay his lawyers plus her $100k plus plus plus legal bill
ReplyDeleteThat dude thought a wealthy person like her would settle, but he got it WAY WRONG. 😂
ReplyDeleteUsually they do. I believe she fought back on Principle alone.
Deletenow he'll probably file for bankruptcy.
DeleteWell tough luck n.e e.ga.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew what that meant! 😀
Deletein slang terms it means better luck next time.
DeleteThere's the new meaning of "I wish you well" take it or leave it!! She didn't wanna be dragged to court for sure but she wanted to make a point! Don't give in if you are right, don't settle for anything else, go fight, go Gwyneth!
ReplyDeleteI think it’s passive aggressive. She won. Let it go. It’s sad.
ReplyDeleteand it is well deserved after a frivolous lawsuit.
DeleteI feel sorry for him. He’s a mess. I think it was unnecessary.
Deletedon't feel sorry for those that create their own problems lol
DeleteIf he’s mentally unwell it’s sad. His attorney should have advised him against it. I only saw snippets but he’s seems to struggle.
DeleteHe's not mentally unwell. He's entitled. There's a difference.
Deletewho knows. But so is she. The most entitled court case ever.
Deleteshe’s entitled to say what she wants. I see it as passive aggression and FU. Not kindness. My opinion. I feel sorry that he’s such a mess. My right.
Deletewhat makes you think she's entitled? She got dragged into court over a frivolous lawsuit and has every right to defend against that stupidity.
Deleteokie dokie. Not explaining that to you. Lol.
Deleteshe was hangry because she starves herself 😉
DeleteMost likely because you can't lol
Deleteoh I can. But choose not to for personal reasons. If that’s your only retort … you don’t get it.
Deleteon top of any personal opinion you must have missed all the articles about the case, that alone would have given you at least half a clue.
Deleteyou are so "internet kind" 🫠🙄🤣 no
Deletefair enough, and she is courtroom nice 🙂
DeleteI'd be sad and annoyed if this 💩 had been dragging on from a holiday 7 years ago! 🤯 I bet she's also very glad to let it go though.
Delete“Hail Hydra”
ReplyDeleteas cardi b once said
ReplyDelete"i wish you well...in hell!!!!! HAHAHA"
These interpretations say something about the person posting, not Gwyneth Paltrow.
ReplyDeleteWell the man wanted money as she’s famous. That’s what people do to famous people.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the SNL re-enactment
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe she was crashing into him.
ReplyDeleteAt the bottom of a well, she added.
ReplyDeleteAnd if she had no compassion she’d be ridiculed in your article. At least your schtick is recession proof
ReplyDelete“What’s in the box?”
ReplyDeleteHope this guy has money for her legal fees.
ReplyDeleteThats what its all about ...not allowing another's behaviour to impact on our own ....
ReplyDeleteI now need an “I Wish You Well” candle that smells like smugness and elitism, when will it be available? 😂
ReplyDeleteHe F around and found out
ReplyDeleteSo... what you're saying then is... Mashable is in desperate need of writers?
ReplyDeleteHere, have one of my special candles.......
ReplyDelete A subtle hint 😆
ReplyDeletefirst class women
ReplyDeleteJerks trying to 'get rich quick" off someone else's pain, take note. I do not wish him well. I hope he learned his lesson. Running into an innocent woman out with her family and trying to leverage a payment was reprehensible.
ReplyDeleteNow that’s one classy lady!
ReplyDeleteI wish you well…mtfr?
ReplyDeleteI watched the whole trial. Attorneys on both sides were terrible. The jury got it wrong but what else is new ?
ReplyDeleteLook out for her new candle, "Hit it from behind"
ReplyDeleteok ☠️
Delete🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣☠️
DeleteI think its been going that way for some time ..
ReplyDeleteShe got to come up from behind him!
ReplyDeleteShe’s cold for that lol
ReplyDeletereally???? Sanderson was blind in one eye from a stroke yrs ago way b 4 the accident. Than after the accident he had cataracts removed from the other eye. He should not have been skiing. He was being treated for memory loss at the VA and for depression. They take exrays of your brain to determine strokes. That all happened b 4 the skiing accident. Strokes can mess with your thinking its common sense. His lawyers should not have taken his case. They were all banking on paltrow paying and not going through a hassle in court. We can only hope sanderson stays off the ski slopes. There comes a time when ppl have to give up things they love because of disabilities
Deleteexactly right. He saw money and that’s all it took for a law suit. He didn’t sue for millions because he figured she’d settle. Good for her!! I’m no fan of hers she’s weird but what’s right is right.
Deletethen* not than in the second sentence
Deletehttps://media1.tenor.co/images/4279e167649d170c78c6979510bfc54a/tenor.gif?c=VjFfZmFjZWJvb2tfd2ViY29tbWVudHM&itemid=18002318
what!?
Deletethe second sentence from your first comment it says Than and it should be then.
DeletePls don’t @ me if you don’t know the difference between the usage of those two words
watch he'll sue her for harassment now. 😂
ReplyDeleteapparently not according to the law and the jury
ReplyDeleteyou have evidence?
Deleteverdicts are not supposed to depend on whether you like the plaintiff.
DeleteSays the Q nut. WIGGA WIGGA!
DeleteGOOD FOR HER ! HE PROBLABLY CAUSED THE ACCIDENT TO GET MONEY FROM HER!
ReplyDeleteEither very empathetic, or cold as a Mafia chief
ReplyDeleteI watched about 90% of the trial; she was kind to him because it was quite evident that the plaintiff was most likely negatively influenced by his skiing buddy to file this suit. It was supposed to be a big payday to the tune of $3M as per the original suit.
DeleteLots of mind reading going on. You all have no idea what was in her heart.
ReplyDeleteBit like James O'Brien's 'Love to the family'?
ReplyDeleteAnd now he's dead 😝

ReplyDeletethat’s a ‘good luck’ with yr blathering BS in the future 😏
ReplyDelete🥱😴
ReplyDeletethat’s a very sweet and class act way of saying
ReplyDelete“go “F ”yourself”.. 😎
no thank you ..
DeleteGood he was looking for a free paycheck
ReplyDeleteIf she meant it harshly, she could have asked for more than A DOLLAR!
ReplyDeleteplus legal fees … that’s where the real money was.
DeleteShe should have counter-sued for a lot more than $1.00 !! This is what a POS looks like!! Terry Sanderson, you are disgusting to the world!! — the guy who sued her — She told him, "I wish you well."
ReplyDeleteThoughts and prayers …
ReplyDeleteDidn’t follow the case— rich people suing richer people is kinda meh. Either way, she is still annoyingly narcissistic and tedious
ReplyDeleteShe didn't have to say anything. I thought it was a nice thing to do.
ReplyDeleteget lost
DeleteVery classy, from start to finish.
ReplyDeleteKindness is the highest form of intelligence.
ReplyDeleteDumbest law suit in recent memory.
ReplyDeletehttps://giphy.com/gifs/tony-stark-iron-man-3-pepper-potts-mKwK2Aa0CM2HK
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if she was deviant in the accident she would have settle it but this man was looking for a money grab .

ReplyDeleteThat was awesome 👌 I WISH YOU WELL. PRETTY MUCH GO F--K YOURSELF. 😂
ReplyDeleteYas 👏
ReplyDeleteThis just reminds me of Cardi Bs "I wish you well... In hell!! Burn in hell ahahaha" 😂
ReplyDeleteWTF cares? Followers?😳🙄🤣😅🤣🙄
ReplyDeleteWhat a heart she has, to be kind to a nasty old fart.
ReplyDeleteShe may have won but am I alone in thinking she came off looking pretty douchey?
ReplyDeleteMore like Ironic?
