Elon Musk wants to challenge ChatGPT with his own AI company | Mashable.

Elon Musk is entering the world of artificial intelligence

It's called X.AI Corp.

The middle section of a Venn diagram between guys who like Elon Musk and guys who are really into artificial intelligence sounds like a nightmarish grouping of fellas. And that nightmare squad is having a really nice time.

According to The Wall Street Journal(opens in a new tab) and The Financial Times(opens in a new tab), Musk is planning to launch a new generative AI start-up to compete with ChatGPT's OpenAI and has called it X.AI Corp. This is notably not a name for one of his children, although it would be reasonable to confuse it as one. Musk is the sole director of the company, and he is also buying thousands of Nvidia GPU processors ā€” processors essential for AI tech building, the Financial Times reports.

The Twitter tzar has been critical of AI despite having co-founded OpenAI before leaving the company a decade ago. Musk is also buying 10,000 of Nvidia GPU processors, which are essential tech for building an AI that can rival ChatGPT, the Financial Times reports, and he's hired two former DeepMind researchers who will allegedly work on the project.

This comes just weeks after he signed an open letter(opens in a new tab) saying that training powerful AI systems should be halted for at least six months.

"AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity," the letter reads.

In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said: "I think moving with caution and an increasing rigor for safety issues is really important. The letter I donā€™t think was the optimal way to address it."

The Wall Street Journal reported that Musks thinks ChatGPT is politically biased and is planning to use X.AI Corp to create an AI model that is "truth-seeking."

    1. thatā€™s not true at all.

    2. No, he isn't. He never invented anything. Other people do, then he buys the company and puts his name on the founders list. He is no genius.

      Delete
  2. Funny how he wanted certain AI development projects across the board to pause; he just wanted to buy himself some time to catch up.

    1. That thing he said could actually still be true. For example: there are very bad things that can be made thru AI to a point (almost) undistinguishable from reality like fake pictures, fake videos, and fake whatever a 3D printer can do. He could actually develop AI to detect whatā€™s real or not, how do detect those (almost) perfect fakes, and things of th sort. Time will tell.

    2. The article clearly states that he is building a generative AI, one that is similar to GPT. He's not looking to detect anything.

    4. Not true. He know that AI is dangerous in the wrong hands.

  3. He's going to use the data from Twitter to create an chatbot AI most likely for the everything app. I can't imagine that going down well, an AI based on Twitter is an AI based on a cesspit of hate and division.

Then again he might incorpate into the controversial NeuralLink. But I think what he will do is try and improve Twitter with AI in terms of advertising and then use the data to analyse trends and control the platform. Well it all sounds like a nightmare.

    2. He's the co-founder of OpenAI, not ChatGPT.

ChatGPT was built by OpenAI AFTER Musk left OpenAI. He left in 2018. Just wanted to clear that up.
