Everything Apple announced at the iPhone 15 event
Apple held its major iPhone event on Tuesday and — surprise! — the company dropped its highly anticipated iPhone 15, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. But that's hardly all Apple announced at the event.
Luckily we've collected all the big announcements and all you need to know in one place. Let's get into it.
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus
Duh, we have to start here. Apple dropped the latest version of its flagship product. The new, more basic version of the iPhone comes with improved performance, a better camera, USB-C charging and Dynamic Island, the shifting widget that killed the dreaded notch. The iPhone 15 starts at $799, while the Plus starts at $899:
The 6.1-inch iPhone 15
The 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
Apple upgraded its priciest iPhones, even if they look largely the same. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are now made of titanium, meaning they're more durable and lighter. It also has a new, customizable Action Button, which replaces the mute switch. iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999, while the Pro Max starts at $1,199:
The 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro
The 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max
Apple Watch Series 9
Apple dropped the latest version of Watch on Tuesday.
Mashable's Cecily Mauran has all the details but TL;DR, it's more powerful, carbon neutral, comes in new colors, and features a new, touch-free feature called double tap.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
The company also announced its latest version of its premium Watch.
The rugged, sportier version of the Watch got an upgraded processor, longer batter life, and improved health readings.
Dynamic Island for all
Apple announced that all versions of iPhone 15 would get Dynamic Island, the widget near the top of iPhone screens that shifts with users' needs. It debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro, but now it's coming standard with all the new iPhones. As Mashable's Alex Perry wrote, this means we can say goodbye to the infamous iPhone notch.
USB-C charging
Apple, as everyone suspected, said on Tuesday it would shift iPhone to USB-C charging. This is a huge relief for folks whose Lightning ports often break or for iPhone users looking to grab a charge from Android pals. Users have long desired this shift, but it comes only after the European Union passed a law requiring universal USB-C charging compatibility by 2024.
The action button
Apple killed off its mute switch in the deluxe iPhone 15 models. In its place: The action button. While the new button can still be used for muting, it's now customizable for a number of functions via the Shortcuts app.
iOS 17 release date
Apple was mostly silent on iOS 17 on Tuesday, though the software was covered extensively at their previous event in June. Still, it was announced that iOS 17 would drop on Monday, Sept. 18.
So long, leather
Apple spent a good portion of the keynote highlighting its environmental efforts. Among those efforts: the elimination of leather products. Apple Watch bands will now be made with a material the company dubbed "FineWoven," which apparently has a suede-like texture.
Spatial video
Apple announced Tuesday that the iPhone 15 Pro will let users record spatial video. This is a feature designed to work in concert with Apple's forthcoming Vision Pro headset. It means you can take a video and then be immersed in it with your headset.

Extremely minor changes, Most if not all are software driven which didn't need a new phone. Just another typical cash grab.
ReplyDeleteit’s a mobile phone what exactly are you expecting them to do to it? Mobile phones have peak in terms of hardware any and all innovations will be on the software side and internal chipsets which they and pretty much ever other manufacturers do at this point. Changes to the appearance shape and sizes simply cosmetic at this point and changes just for change sake which is dumb
DeleteSo your saying iPhone has peaked bringing out hardware and software features that have been around since as early as 2014?
DeleteWhat the general consumer base wants to see from a "Tech" company is innovation, yet we see none of that come from Apple. Samsung is the best example of innovation with their folding screen technology over the past few years combined with genuine hardware improvements between the S21 and the S23, constantly updating their CPU/GPU capabilities and even came up with a new way to organize their cache dies so that they can push their CPU cores beyond the physical space of a CPU. Let's talk about what Apple came out with on this one; the 'Dynamic Island' was already a thing on the IPhone 13, and the OLED screen and Telephoto Lens have been on mid-range (Not the best phones on the market) phones since 2019. Oh and slap an extra $100 onto that and blame the software anytime there's an issue, even though the hardware itself is clearly way behind.
Seriously you cannot be a straight thinker and back up Apple at the same time, You just can't.

ReplyDeleteI need this one
ReplyDeleteNo one's been waiting.
ReplyDeleteAll these companies need to stop producing minor changes every year and start to come up with better innovation.
ReplyDeleteAndroid specs is not overprice! Also its has bigger battery 5k-6k mah & much better cooling design.

Huawei con su llamada satelital es otro level.
ReplyDeleteNothing special about it
ReplyDeleteYearly phone updates don't make that much sense anymore
ReplyDeleteHuawei will surpass them in the next 4 years
ReplyDeleteSame design disappointed

ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is that?! Same Iphone 14 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteStill cannot wrap my head around the fact that they called this “all new design”
ReplyDeleteWow! What an invention! Like Tesla
ReplyDelete👍😆
DeleteHere I am waiting for an updated iPhone mini.
ReplyDelete👍😆
Deleteyou can already customise the apple logo on the back ?
ReplyDeleteWelp, gotta wait for iPhone 16 to see if they do anything new
ReplyDeleteI just want to be able to hold my phone securely in its case without the shaky, delete apps thing happening 5 times a day.
ReplyDeleteDisappointed phone
DeleteInnovation ❤️

My favorite part was when she said "iPhone 15 has an all new design that's simply gorgeous" and then showed a phone that looks exactly like every other iPhone.
ReplyDelete😆 It's almost an insult to their audience. I'm all for identifying the subtleties in design, but c'mon!
DeleteGive me a foldable iPhone that can take a good picture of the moon
ReplyDeleteIt's finally time to upgrade my 7plus. I've been waiting for USB-C for years!
ReplyDeleteIts cool you can record 3D videos now. Its a shame you
ReplyDeletecan't watch them on a 3d TV.
I could make the new Avatar
You should still make it either way. I've not seen the latest, but I would watch yours.
DeleteAlso, remember 3D TVs?
Remember MiniDisc?
DeleteYou should still make it either way. I've not seen the latest, but I would watch yours.
DeleteI got the 13 back in spring.
ReplyDeleteGlad they got rid of the glass backing. To fragile... Will upgrade to the 15 Pro or Max. My 12 pro needs to much fixing at this point
ReplyDeleteI don’t think they got rid of the glass backing.. from Apple’s site:
ReplyDeleteiPhone 15 Pro: A strong titanium band.
The toughest back glass in a smartphone. And a Ceramic Shield front that’s even tougher than any smartphone glass.
iPhone 15: The innovative new design features back glass that has color infused throughout the material.
Damn! Looked like it was all metal on the back. Oh well. Still replacing my busted 12 pro for the 15 max.
DeleteAlmost. My 12 pro Max is still kicking strong. And I’m playing Starfield on it.
ReplyDeleteMy 12 Pro battery is buggered. Hopefully this is better.
DeleteStreaming Starfield or what?
DeleteCloud gaming
DeleteRTX technology on a phone seems promising.
ReplyDeleteIf in no way new
DeleteIt is new… no smartphone that exists has the horsepower to run ray tracing. It’s arguably the biggest news of the day.
DeleteRight, except we had ray tracing back in 2022.
DeleteSo new in a "it's already been done way". Aka apple-new!
Missing the point - it’s new for smartphones as of today…
DeleteI saw you reply to a couple of these comments. A quick google search revealed that the Galaxy S22 had ray tracing. Can you let us know your source that the S22 did NOT have Ray Tracing? The S22 is a Smart Phone...
DeleteThis iPhone also allows you to talk to people.
ReplyDeleteInnovative idea or something.
It looks cool, I guess. Although, will stay with my 11 pro max
ReplyDeleteHasn't ray tracing been on phones for a while?
ReplyDeleteNegative
DeleteThe S22 had it, pretty sure the S23 has it too
DeleteWatch out apple. Huawei is on its way back to town and your president can't save you this time....
ReplyDeleteHuawei’s executives use iPhones.
DeleteHe can't even form a coherent sentence.
DeleteDoes apple ever do enhanced trade in offers for competitor phones? When I went to Google Pixel 7 pro from a Samsung, they gave me damn near $700 for my Samsung. Wonder if they'll do the same from the pixel 7 pro
ReplyDeleteDepends on the carrier. If your phone is paid off either way, upgrading is a heck of a lot cheaper.
DeleteYea I always pay my phone off completely when I buy them
DeleteI'm pi$$ed about the Ultra 2. i just got the Ultra.
ReplyDeleteAt least there isn't anything special for the new model
It was so unexpected too!
Deletei thought it would be a few years until they revealed a new one.
DeleteIt looks like the iPhone 12. Which is 3 Gens ago. Either Apple is getting lazy, or they know their fan base doesn't care what they put out, they are still going to buy it for some reason. Its the same shit lol.
ReplyDeletehttps://giphy.com/gifs/they-live-ecqcp7gZjg1a
ReplyDeleteA very very blah meh event. Stagnation all around. Really none of this even needed an event.
ReplyDeleteHow can it be stagnant when there were upgrades? This is the Apple "incremental upgrade" train, and it's been rolling smoothly for decades.
DeleteI agree with everyone: not a single exciting product was launched. iPhone and Apple Watch are a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteRay Tracing on a phone is insane!
ReplyDeleteImagine being able to hook it up to a screen for some quick gaming etc… these phones are becoming insanely powerful.
DeleteiPhone is officially a mature product. This was the keynote to skip.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but I’ve been feeling this way for a few years now. New iPhones are for people with I'd say the 8 or earlier. Maybe X. My XS Max even still holds up camera and speed wise. HDR, OLED, etc. If it wasn’t for the data not working I’d be holding onto it for another five years.
Deletethe most underwhelming keynote ever created
ReplyDeleteI am really disappointed in Apple’s event. Very underwhelming… 😢
ReplyDeleteThe prices we are paying based on our domestic currency (yen) are the same or more than last year. terrible. apple watch are the same yen prices. Over all the event was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteVery underwhelming update, kinda expected it but still disappointed.
ReplyDeleteAnd still the meh pill design on the iPhone, but the side button is kinda nice.
The new ultra watch face is going to be available on both the 1 and 2 no?
I think the most interesting thing about the event was not seeing a Mac Pro in any of the workspaces. Hopefully not a harbinger of thngs to come.
ReplyDeleteSo yet another connector change. There go all my Lightning cables. Thanks, Apple!
ReplyDeleteWhat a boring crock. I may use their long video to help with my nightly insomnia, however.
ReplyDeleteThat GPU is impressive!
ReplyDeleteWell that was uninspiring and fairly lackluster.
ReplyDeleteNow that the iPhone 15 launch is over—a massive yawn—I’m waiting to see if we’ll get anything else of genuine interest by the end of this year.
ReplyDeleteGet your pre-orders in before the order queue gets pushed back MONTHS.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the following:
ReplyDelete— Tim and his leadership team all went out to dinner tonight, patting each other on the back, thinking they did a great job today…
— Samsung execs are celebrating Apple’s lackluster performance - again.
Accurate
DeleteThe event seemed to cater more to ESG nonsense than their actual products
ReplyDeleteWhen communities are being wiped out by fires and floods, it is a corporate responsibility. Now imagine the opposite where Apple did -nothing- to reduce pollution. I applaud Apple for pushing hard towards their environmental goals. Yes, it was laid on a bit thick this time, and it's clear that they needed filler content, but it was valuable content nonetheless.
DeleteShhh! You might anger Mother Nature. And you DO NOT want to make Mother Nature angry. Imagine what she might do to you 😮
DeleteThe weight of the 15 pro is the only plus for me vs my 14 pro. The "action" button is a big minus...
ReplyDeleteWhere is the one more thing? Magic Mouse with usb c!!! Take my money
ReplyDelete
