Great video by Wesley Huff, if you believe Easter is Pagan. Huff was on Rogan not too long along, explaining the origins of the Bible. He's a manuscripts scholar.
The table in the photo is called a "triclinium." It may likely be the kind of table used at the Last Supper, except it would not have been so high, and those at it did not sit in chairs but rather reclined around it. The photo has the actor portraying Jesus seated in the center. But according to ancient evidence, it seems the host would recline at the end of the left wing (left from our perspective), with the final end spot being for a close friend (such as John). And the place at the host's left hand was for a guest of honor (Judas Iscariot!).
Some excellent pictures of this arrangement can be found at https://www.redeemerofisrael.org/2012/04/setting-of-last-supper-triclinium.html
But a word of warning: the webmaster of this site is a Mormon promoting Mormonism, a deadly heresy. So beware! I am only recommending for study this one webpage at this site, none of the other pages.
Good Friday to everyone. Also known as Holy Friday. Thank you Jesus, for your mercy to me.
https://www.gotquestions.org/Good-Friday.html
I've seen the Passion, and appreciate the film. I don't know if I'll watch again. The impression it made was quite deep.
Maybe I'll check out Jesus of Nazareth again. I saw it decades ago. I do still remember the death of Jesus in that movie, but not much else. Maybe I'll fast forward to the passion week portion.
I'd also like to find some good sermons or documentaries for the weekend. Open to suggestions.
I'll pass on any movie using da Vinci's depiction of tables that did not exist in the time of Jesus.
Short version:
"Most Western art, including da Vinci’s iconic mural, shows Jesus and the apostles seated upright at a long, straight table. This arrangement is an artistic invention, designed for compositional clarity and to highlight the figures, not historical accuracy. In reality, the apostles would have been reclining, and the table would have been much lower to the ground, possibly with food placed on shared platters."
Things to watch at this time of year:
The Unleavened Messiah: A portrait of Christ at the Passover
Sojourner Ministries
Worth every penny to see it from a Jewish perspective. Will change the way any Christian sees what we call the Last Supper.
Saw this decades ago from a Messianic Jew who describes in detail the significance of the Passover meal known as the Last Supper.
The most significant Scripture is this: Luke 22:22
And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant in My blood.
That's the one. I just hesitated posting a link since it might look like an advertisement. From what I remember, A very dated look to it by today's 4k UHD standards, but tremendous insight into the event.
House of David and Passion of the Christ are the only two I have seen and /or like, although Passion is hard to watch, and I am looking forward to the sequel.
Just watched The Last Supper. Wish I hadn’t.
Here is my list.
Greatest Story Ever Told; Jesus of Nazereth (1977); I just got King of Kings (1962), I actually have not seen that yet;
Here are some others
A.D. (Anno Domini. 1984 or 85 mini series) IF you can find original, unedited version; The Robe, (Richard Burton); Ben Hur (Charlton Heston);
Obviously, I don’t have the time or inclination to watch every one, so I rotate them.
Still…outstanding cinema.
Of course, ALWAYS remember the most important factor:
A.D. (Anno Domini, the 1985 miniseries) was filmed as a sequel to Franco Zeffirelli's miniseries Jesus of Nazareth. It covers the period of the Book of Acts, but it's not Acts. Rather, it provides the historical background of Acts in an inspiring way. The whole miniseries was around 9-hours long. I am fortunate to own the boxed VHS set of the 9-hour miniseries, and also a DVD version. But unfortunately, the DVD version looks washed-out compared to the VHS tapes!
Vision Video used to sell a different DVD, but it was edited way down for time constraints in church presentations. This made the plot hard to follow. I hate abridged versions of anything (I always wonder what I'm missing!). If you find a DVD on Amazon, etc. it's likely this abridged version. Finding the original 9-hour version will take some work, but if you're interested it's worth it.
In addition, a 2015 remake of the miniseries is called A.D. The Bible Continues (also known as A.D. Kingdom and Empire). I haven't seen that, except for one scene about the deacon Stephen from Acts 6. They portrayed him as a "boy" that looked like he could be in middle school. I wasn't impressed, and haven't tried to find any edition of this remake.
But in regards to any Biblical movie, although I like them and they can be helpful, "the Book is always better than the movie!"
Today is Thursday, the night Jesus was handed over to the heart of the earth so to speak. Enjoy your Holy Week everyone. Sometime after dark, it will correspond to Christ willingly giving himself over to the Jewish authorities, and Chief priests.
BTW, did you ever noticed that Jesus crucifixion is almost never mentioned in absence of his arrest—being handed over?
Jesus was handed over Thursday night, or the start of Friday in Jewish thinking. The next day he was crucified. He was then raised from the dead at dawn Sunday morning. This entire stream of events covers 3 days and 3 nights. No need for idiomatic explanations or alternative crucifixion dates.
Matt. 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
I watched all three of the Chosen "LAST SUPPER" I expected it would cover Jesus' death on the cross. I don't know why as it was never stated they would. But is did not. But when Jesus was in the garden Dallas Jenkins brought in all these people from the Old Testament visiting Jesus in the garden. When Jesus prayed Jenkin's failed to show Jesus sweating drops blood. For me this last group of the chosen was full of made up fluff. There was plenty of made up stories that might have had some truth but maybe not. Jenkins is a movie creator that is dome a really great job on making a movie series mixed with Bible events, if you fully understands this is a movie series mixed with Bible facts, then you wont be disappointed. But if you are expecting pure events exactly from the Bible, you will be unhappy. I personally like the CHOSEN, it's mixed with what might have been, with historic facts and Bible events. As long as you understand this you will most likely enjoy the Chosen.
If any of that is even true. When you push "X" to this site, you know it's a swamp of hate and propaganda.
You also know that one preacher saying something is not all "progressive churches." Just like some weirdo conservative pastor is all conservative churches. Do you thing Westboro Batptist church represents you?
No. Messianic Jewish synagogues deny the full sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We are not bound by that anymore and when people say that we are it delegitimizes what He did at Calvary. I know that you probably go to that church and it is a mistake and it means that you do not fully trust in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says that Christians will face tribulation. it says over and over again that this is true. What Christians will not face is the wrath of God and the wrath of God does not occur until the sun turns black and the oceans turn to blood. It is all written in the book of Revelation and elaborated in the book of Joel as well as in the New Testament. Christians will face tribulation. They always have and always will until the end.
I am not ignorant of the word of God. I know that Jesus perfectly satisfied the sacrificial system. And I know that when we do not fully trust in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as being sufficient then we are not saved. This is not my opinion it is truth. It is a truth that is very evident to anyone that has read the Bible.. you are triggered because you know that you are not yet saved because you have not yet fully trusted in Jesus Christ. But as long as you have breath, there is hope. After death, though is judgment and after judgment eternity. Decide here and now where you want to be an act accordingly.
No, you choose to ignore God's truth because of your slavish devotion to an abusive pastor. If you had any discernment you would do what other pastors have done and separate from him until he publicly REPENTS.
Every one of my comments is posted as far as I can see. You need to repent and get away from the hate preacher. As that stuff rubs off on you it begins to rot your soul.
You only parrot what others say about him. Listen to a sermon and you will understand. Or don’t. Your words mean nothing nor does your opinion. God is on his side
Since most churches completely ignored the importance of palm Sunday last week, hopefully they will use Easter to preach the gospel of salvation, 1 Corinthians 15. 1-4, and less time watching fancy movies in their plush sanctuaries.
"Easter Parade," Fred Astaire, Ann Miller, and Judy Garland, 1948.

Ben Hur is amazing.
DeleteWow! That Angel Studios "King of Kings" is weird looking!
ReplyDeleteNot a criticism, in my mind -- weird can be good. But very strange looking. It's bobble head, 70s swinger looking Jesus.

Being an Evangelical, we didn't do Holy Week. But, I've really learned to appreciate it, now that I attend a liturgical church.
DeleteMaundy Thursday is one of the most moving services of the year. Almost every time, somebody breaks out in open weeping.

Speaking of hate and propaganda…..
DeleteGo to church. Pray fervently. Avoid movies and “entertainment “.
ReplyDeleteWhich church?
DeleteFind a local Catholic Church!
DeleteAny valid church. A valid church believes in the literal inerrant bible, in soul winning and in the eternal security of the believer.
DeleteNo. Messianic Jewish synagogues deny the full sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We are not bound by that anymore and when people say that we are it delegitimizes what He did at Calvary. DeleteEpiscopalian! The only true and valid church!
DeleteLOL -- we don't even think that way.
Declaring other churches "valid" or "invalid" is a spiritual arrogance we reject.
And I reject the lukewarm Episcopalians. The lukewarm shall be vomited out.
DeleteI go to faithful word Baptist in Tempe, but there are a lot of good churches mentioned here: https://nifb.church/churches/

DeletePerfect timing—been looking for something meaningful to watch this Easter. Thanks for the list!
ReplyDeleteThe Chosen' always hits different around Easter. Such powerful storytelling.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never heard of 'Journey to You'—is it a newer release? Looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove that these recommendations focus on faith and redemption. So refreshing!
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait to rewatch some of these with the family. Easter movie nights are a tradition now.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, 'resurrection' themes always get me. There’s something so hopeful about them.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see a mix of series and movies on this list. Sometimes a binge-worthy show is just what you need over the long weekend.
ReplyDeleteAre any of these kid-friendly? Would love to share something inspiring with the little ones.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the focus on uplifting content—Easter is such a great time to reflect.
ReplyDeleteWould’ve loved to see 'Risen' or 'Ben-Hur' mentioned too—those are Easter classics!
