  2. I read an article that iphones will cost 3000+ US if manufactured in the states. Either Apple is going to take a huge hit in profits (unlikely) or common people won't be able to afford them.

    ReplyDelete
  3. A) it would still be far cheaper to just pay a 25% tariff instead of moving production to the US; B) they won't find the labour in the US to build phones; C) Americans hired to screw iPhones together won't be able to afford them

Apple is Steve Job’s great legacy channelled out to China.

    Democrats are pro China emissaries.

Trump proposes the right agenda, but narcissist Trump is unfortunately Trump’s agenda.

If messiahs have to be leftists, I wonder what we’ll call the person who will lead westerners out of their decadence and back to common sense.

  6. Someone needs to read “Apple in China” by Canadian Patrick McGee to Trump, since he does not read, so he may understand Apple is a captive of Chinese manufacturing and any move would take decades.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Westerners don’t manufacture what they consume and pro China globalist companies developed on their soil have zero loyalty.

Tariffs should be temporary. The solution is a non spoiled workforce willing to become competitive.

We need governments to protect us from globalism, but the workforce must do it’s part

  11. Will the yanks pay $3500 for a US made iPhone? Well, maybe the well to do. It would sink the company. That is the calculated cost of having one made in the USA. Apple clearly is not paying off Trump (or his family) for a pass. Pay Trump $100M and you're good to go Apple. That is a drop in the bucket for you.

I hope it is republished so more Canadians and Americans can read about the reality of our relationship and how different people cope and keep hope for our futures

  15. Does Trump ever sleep, or does he sit up at night and pick who he is going to with next.

I'd love to see Apple either pull it's products from the US, or have a US/rest of the world price. Something like: $3500 for a US bought iPhone, $800 for the rest of the world.

  16. Every American company targeted like this should make Trump own his tariffs by listing them on invoices. For example Apple:

    $799.00. iPhone 16

    $199.75. Tariff charge

    ReplyDelete
  18. Only a genius like Donald would think that a mega-corp like Apple can blow up their entire global supply chain and invent a new US-based one in a few months. The logistics and mechanics of it are unbelievably massive and complex.

And all to essentially double the price of their phone with American labor. Tim Cook will be crucified by his shareholders if he even returns Fat Donny's calls.

    ReplyDelete
  21. There goes another 25% cost added to every USA consumer. Industry experts say it would take 10 years for Apple to shift production to the USA and then once established each phone would cost $3,500USD to purchase. (Not indexed for the inflation Trump is causing). Way to fight every single one of your Fortune 100 companies, their employees, shareholders and consumers Trump! MAGA!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Poor old Donald, he’s obviously never experienced the grey market, which was everywhere in the 1970s. Cheaper is simply a way of life Donald, and your tariffs will have the opposite effect on the market, from what you think it will be.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Some say the US hasn’t the tech capacity to build just such plants in the US. I doubt that, but the notion isn’t without possible potential merit.

Thing is Foxconn (for example) already has plants in the US. Trump wants to employ Americans. So like Honda or Toyota that build a ton of cars on the USA, employing many Americans - so could Foxconn.

I feel this tariff may very well be far more malleable than others, because it has another purpose other than to build local - to show China how the US can pull business back home, costing China employment, and income away from China.

    ReplyDelete

    1. The left is losing the mind about this, but have zero problem forcing companies to go green and say that the consumers won’t be affected.

Only reason Apple makes iPhones abroad is because it’s still cheaper to exploit people than to have robots make your products.

      Delete
    2. I think this push for domestic manufacturing has a bet on a robotics boom soon too. We just need a ton more scale to make those things here. There will be employment and a net benefit to the economy but the number of people employed per factory (adjusted for size of factory lol) is going to be a lot lower than in the past. An increasing number of dark factories and a lot of heavily automated ones I’d bet.

Also a lot of small manufacturing push is helpful for wartime capacity to rapidly scale drone manufacturing ala Ukraine but on American steroids.

    3. 20-25% of iphones will be Assessed in India

      Delete
    4. That's where it is right now roughly. Given the pace of export growth it will likely grow beyond that especially as India starts producing more components.

Apple hasn't said that, 25% is the limit, nothing more. We don't know when they'll stop moving production if ever.

      Delete
    5. They explicitly stated only US iPhones will be made in India and airpods etc made in Vietnam . Rest of the world's iphone is from China

      Delete
    6. Source?

America takes up more than half the Iphone market. If India is supposed to exclusively export to the US then we'd ltierally get more than 50% of the total production.

      Delete
    7. Oh I misunderstood the statistic, yeah. 28% I think actually.

Still, you haven't given a source on Apple stating that they'd only use India for US shipments and don't plan to expand beyond that. They've stated they're planning to source from India mostly this quarter for America but not stated anything beyond that.

      Delete
    8. The specific quote from Tim Cook stating that “China would continue to be the country of origin for the vast majority of total product sales outside the US” appears in coverage of Apple’s Q1 2025 earnings call (February 6, 2025). The primary source is a Bloomberg article published on February 6, 2025, titled "Apple Earnings: Sales Top Estimates Despite iPhone, China Weakness." The exact link to this article is:https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-30/apple-sales-top-estimates-despite-iphone-china-weakness

    9. Yeah I read this. This is referring to the June quarter.
"For the June quarter, we do expect the majority of iPhones sold in the US will have India as their country of origin, and Vietnam to be the country of origin for almost all iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods products also sold in the US," Cook said. "China would continue to be the country of origin for the vast majority of total product sales outside the US."

This doesn't necessarily translate to long term plans.

      Delete
    10. It includes china as well..... Trump doesn't care if it's china or india...he wants everything to be build in usa.

      Delete
    11. So, I found this

1000×1,25=1250$, assuming 25% on the whole unit once and no carve outs.

Price to make 100% of the iPhone in America, assuming it is possible: about 2500$ to 3000$.

Not entirely sure about access to the raw matrials needed and I don't think there's enough trained engineers in the US anynore for all the high tech manufacturing.

Trump needs to put 100% or 225% tariffs in iPhone then it will match the price of American made iphone.

Absolute d*mb things is going on in USA now.

      Delete
    12. It's extra stupid because nobody in America wants those jobs. They have more vacant positions than they do unemployed people. And much of that is in manufacturing related jobs.

“I’ve agreed to lower the Apple tariff to 10%, to be paid by the exporting country again! Apple put AMERICA FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

  85. I'm confused, so an American company already paying tariffs for import and export and passing that onto us is going to shift their entire business back to the US under threat of an increase to their bottom line which will just be passed on anyways instead of the huge increase of lost profit to making stuff we can't even produce here, while paying tariffs already just because, 'Merica...?

    What?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Haha yeah no they won’t pay. We as consumers will.

  87. You can mess with a lot of things but don’t mess with Apple and their ecosystem. He is trying to kill Americans companies instead of building them up. Walmart eat the Tarriffs, Apple Pay the tariffs and in the end the American people will pay all these tariffs. If he gets rid of taxing your paycheck then maybe it could be a wash( but not really). Only 3 1/2 more years of him and hopefully things go back to normal.
