If everyone dosen't want this to happen, go here https://www.change.org/p/youtube-say-no-to-flawed-age-verifications and sign the petition, as well as share it with as many people as you can while protesting to YouTube directly as well as on other social media platforms. We must fight back until we win.
I just might have to cancel YouTube Premium and find another more free and private form of entertainment. Real shame cause I watch YouTube a lot and use YouTube Music a lot. If they keep pushing this nonsense I might drop YouTube TV as well. It's getting harder to find platforms that are just chill and fun for the sake of being chill and fun. Hopefully people will keep talking about this and pushing back until they work something else out that benefits us all.
I'm curious as to how it works if they need to provide a credit card to say they're 18. My 15 yo has had an Amex card since she was 13. Doesn't seem exactly like a trustworthy tool..
So we can show identification to make our account normal again, that’s ok. I watch things with my children at times so my viewing experience ranges in age from 4 to 45 with several different ages in between.
My niece looks young for her age and ai keep shutting her lives down. She's almost 18 but looks young. Its frustrating, her channels until the ai thinks shes 12.
Just use a vpn and forget about it lol. No age checks for me no sending my licence to some sketchy third-party ID check company that retains info in you for a certain reason digital ID china style credit system. Own nothing and be happy
This issue I have here in the US is the freedom to choose. As a parent if I choose to let my 10 year old or teen watch something that a machine says they shouldn't, I should be able to over ride it. Otherwise we are just letting AI make these choices for us and our parental rights go out the window.
something I recognize that is probably going to be very stupid (yet is very. VERY true for this):
taken (Copypasted-) from a YT comment: "Based on the content they watch" Soooo.... AI will detect children that watch cartoons but children that actually watch NSFW content will slip by.
WHO GREENLIGHTED THIS?!
well... Despite all this, AT this point why use a YT account to watch YT?, why bother with them if they will actively put restrictions on accounts they deem "Doesn't match birthday on account". It aint boycotting no but... Its the best we got if you dont like YT but still want to support creators on the platform. (Wont work for all though Unfortunately)
Well, it looks good to me. I hope Redditors who've been showing double standards experience the consequences right in front of their faces and never make that mistake again.
I saw some videos saying that YouTube cancelled the ai Ag verification thing I don’t know the veracity of these videos but I wanted to share this with you.
To the people that are quitting or say they’re going to stop watching.
You’re not going to do anything to help. You’re just quitting.
A few thousand people are leaving? Statistically that’s barely a dent to YT’s numbers..
According to Global Media Insight: https://www.globalmediainsight.com/blog/youtube-users-statistics/
YouTube has 2.70 Billion users per month, with 122 million people watching daily.
Now there are 3.6k upvotes on this post. If every person who upvoted cancelled YouTube or stopped watching.
That would only be 0.00013% of YouTube’s monthly users. Or 0.00295% daily users.
Basically nothing. Now I’m just taking this Reddit post into account. But say there’s like maybe 80k people who stop YouTube… even that isn’t doing much.
80k out of 2.7 billion monthly users is about 0.003%
If you’re really against this, something more than just “quitting” YouTube needs to be done.
Quitting is easy and guess what? It’s also easy for YT to ignore.
YouTube isn’t the true villain here and neither is AI. It’s the government doing this. Start going after lawmakers, petitions, protests, get your favorite content creator involved, the bigger their subscription pool the better.
Mobilize with EFF, Fight for the Future, etc
Call or email your representatives to oppose KOSA and any other federal age-checking mandate. Tell your state lawmakers, wherever you are, to oppose age verification laws. Make your voice heard online, and talk to your friends and family.
If you’re not willing to risk yourself or fight for your freedom, you didn't deserve it in the first place.
Did Rosa Parks quit riding the bus? No she SAT on that bus despite it all.
Did Susan B. Anthony stop trying to vote when they told her she couldn’t? No! She was arrested and ridiculed and still persevered!
idk if it is related to the AI detection because it shouldn't be rolled out yet, but my ads are now no longer targeted for protection or smt so now I get AI p-rn ads
We need to collectively shut this down. Google will 100% expand this to all their services for EVERYONE. Everyone needs to know how dangerous of a move this is. Its about connecting all your online social presence to your govt ID. We're living in an age of the govt arresting you for OPINIONS. We cant be having age verification.
What even needs to be age verified? If a vid has 1 cuss word? Halk naked humans? What is the litmus for this even? I don't think I watch anything crazy enough to warrant this ever happening.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but... the government already has all our IDs and Emails etc most likely... buy something off ebay? Use the same email for YouTube? Buy something off Google play, Amazon, any big corp? Use your credit card or PayPal that have your real name linked to it with one of those emails etc, have a social security number? All of its out there already unless you were just barely using the internet. BUT WITH INCOGNI YOU CAN WIPE YOUR DATA OFF THE NET FOR A LOW LOW PRICE OF 9.99 A MONTH USING CODE "WEREWATCHINGYOUWANK" THOSE PESKY DATA BROKERS WONT KNOW WHAT HIT THEM!!! anyway yeah, its all already out there...
Fuck man, this one is gonna hurt. I've been using YouTube nonstop for 18 years. It's one of my main sources of joy and comfort, but I might have to stop using it. Luckily, I've been downloading a bunch of my favorite videos.
Yeah websites are just going to do it automatically behind the scenes and bury the details in the fine print of their TOS, eliminating the chance to passively opt out.
My main issue with this whole debacle is that hackers could easily hijack this to take your information. It's really not even hard when you think about it. I should have a right to privacy. That information is mine and no one else's. I'm so tired of all this BS. Privacy should be an inalienable right. Where do companies and the government get off telling me that I need to upload my ID, SSN, etc just to play a video game or watch YouTube?
Bad if it works like Instagram - which has been incorrectly flagging normal people for CP for weeks now - to the point that the Korean government had to get involved!
They can't do some simple fucking math? If the minimum age to register an account is 13, and that account is more than five years old, how old is that user likely to be?
oh noes, I’m not going to be able to access millions of random bs videos, spam, ads, ai-generated crap and content-created shit. whatever will i do with my life from now on?!
Get bent. There is no way on earth i would give up my ID to watch a YouTube video. I must admit I find it mildly hilarious that you can probably trick the ai by adult Maxxing your content. Throw on some videos about the economy and news articles about the stock market.
I'm really curious to see what it thinks. Probably not a lot of underage people listening to vintage jazz and classical music and watching long videos about advanced math. But I also watch a lot of video games.
YouTube: since you just watch your favorite cartoon opening from your childhood. NOoooo~! Plus a 90 year ban cause you watched videos that are about hating our glorious ai idea.
The admin is going to try to get isp level with it. Big daddy wants his data. I forecast a massive USA intranet within the decade. Just like North Korea.
I follow a few people on YouTube whose content I really enjoy. That being said, the rest is just slop. Aside from the well being of a few streamers and content providers I care about, YT can go fuck. The only way to protest is to simply jump ship.
I tried to access a subreddit about a specific medical condition. Nothing gruesome but was basically asked to verify my age. Like what the fuck. This is taking enshittification to a whole new level.
If everyone dosen't want this to happen, go here https://www.change.org/p/youtube-say-no-to-flawed-age-verifications and sign the petition, as well as share it with as many people as you can while protesting to YouTube directly as well as on other social media platforms. ReplyDeletechange petitions dont do anything. show your discontent with not using YT at all and ditching premium if you got it
DeleteGood luck ditching Youtbe what alternative are there?.
DeleteUhhhh going outside? Fishing? Biking? Church? Walking? Should I Continue

ReplyDeleteBoycott on the 13th. Don't use YouTube at all or try not to 🩷
ReplyDeleteYeah this is going well in the UK where kids are using Gary’s Mod to fool the AI.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing.. good there are smart kids around.
DeleteIT'S TIME TO GET JUSTICE! SAY NO TO AGE VERIFICATION #MAKEEARTHGREATAGAIN.
ReplyDeleteFR
DeleteYeah, time to say bye bye to YouTube.
ReplyDeletebye.., to all services.. that ain't serving us but annoy us and go further and further in their monopoly..
Deletedoei, tegen alle services, die ons niet dienen maar ergeren en er tegelijkertijd slaatje uit slaan..

I'm curious as to how it works if they need to provide a credit card to say they're 18. My 15 yo has had an Amex card since she was 13. Doesn't seem exactly like a trustworthy tool..
ReplyDeleteit kind of is. your 15 yo, is 15 yo on her card right? not adult..
Deletebut everyone knows its not about the age.. they want information, to sell
DeleteCOPPA is at it again. I just knew it. This is going to go wrong, just watch and see.
ReplyDeleteTechnology will never replace common sense.
ReplyDeleteBehind the behind the door prank is good one
ReplyDeleteWhen this gets implemented I will switch to TikTok because a least they don’t have a stupid age verification policy
ReplyDeleteYes, they only send all your information to the CCP.
Deletecan't stand dumber and dumber reels from tik - tock. disabled all short-content from you tube too ;p
DeleteI remember when youtube was block at school I used metacafe is metacafe still a thing
DeleteTHIS THE WORST DECISION I EVER SEEN WHYYYYYYYY YOUTUBE
ReplyDelete#ageverification
ReplyDeleteThis comment has nothing to do with the subject, it's just a general comment that I wish there was an alternative to YouTube.
ReplyDeleteIt's still going to know I'm 42 😂.
ReplyDeleteSo we can show identification to make our account normal again, that’s ok. I watch things with my children at times so my viewing experience ranges in age from 4 to 45 with several different ages in between.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is going to be interesting!!! 🤔
ReplyDeleteMy niece looks young for her age and ai keep shutting her lives down. She's almost 18 but looks young. Its frustrating, her channels until the ai thinks shes 12.
ReplyDeleteDoesn’t everyone have a teenage viewing habit ? 😂
ReplyDeleteJust use a vpn and forget about it lol. No age checks for me no sending my licence to some sketchy third-party ID check company that retains info in you for a certain reason digital ID china style credit system. Own nothing and be happy
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteYoutube's limits contents but not the numerous mind numbing lousy quality game adverts.
ReplyDeleteThis issue I have here in the US is the freedom to choose. ReplyDeleteyou think you have freedom? good joke
Deletethis is the parent's job not the government
ReplyDeleteI don't really agree to it. Is there anyway we could get them to change their mind?
ReplyDeleteSPREAD THE WORD I'M GOING TO BOYCOTT YOUTUBE FOR THIS!!!

Never thought this would happen, im going to need a burner to watch Bluey......

ReplyDeleteAre they stupid?

You tube is ridiculously censored already. Watch your damn kids
ReplyDeleteidk if it is related to the AI detection because it shouldn't be rolled out yet, but my ads are now no longer targeted for protection or smt so now I get AI p-rn ads
ReplyDeleteHow dare they make me read a book

ReplyDeleteGoddamn clankers are verifying our ages to watch safe videos
ReplyDeleteCurrently enjoying my last week on YouTube rn
ReplyDeleteSplendid! The perfect opportunity to never use YouTube literally ever again!
ReplyDeleteYou all remember the day when you no longer needed to fake your age?
ReplyDeleteWatch me drop YT so fast
ReplyDeleteGoogle thought YouTube lost money before this, No amount of forced advertisement upon existing customers will keep their service viable to continue.
ReplyDeleteMy gmail account has the same age of the people that watch the videos I watch.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how AI will resolve this.
Fake ID market is about to get big
ReplyDeleteUsing ai to ban ai. 🙄🙄🙄
ReplyDeleteWhat even needs to be age verified? If a vid has 1 cuss word? Halk naked humans? What is the litmus for this even? I don't think I watch anything crazy enough to warrant this ever happening.
ReplyDeleteGuess Usenet will be making a comeback.
ReplyDeleteLol, better find a discount code for Nebula now…
ReplyDeleteMy account is older than most children on it.
ReplyDeleteI better be fucking exempt from it.
I will NOT be doing this. I can live without YouTube.
ReplyDeleteHey YT, that will be a strong cancel my account from me. You too Bezos.
ReplyDeleteBut why? YouTube is already so heavily censored to the point of people blanking out words like "death" and shit. I hate what the internet is becoming
ReplyDeleteI'd with that they stop censoring so much content, I'm on board
ReplyDeleteWell i wanted to buy death stranding 2 anyways
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be the bearer of bad news but... the government already has all our IDs and Emails etc most likely... buy something off ebay? Use the same email for YouTube? ReplyDeletejust wait until you pay for internet zones, youtube and social media package!
ReplyDeletesign up with your passport id and get an extra month!
I’ll delete the app the second they ask for ID. Everything I use it for can be found elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteAs an almost 50 year old man... this will flag me as a toddler XD
ReplyDeleteFuck man, this one is gonna hurt. I've been using YouTube nonstop for 18 years. It's one of my main sources of joy and comfort, but I might have to stop using it. Luckily, I've been downloading a bunch of my favorite videos.
ReplyDeleteAs I am now 66, and I have been using YouTube since about 2006... I really would like it to identify me as a teenager!!
ReplyDeleteI will sooner go back to Stone Age than give any service a copy of my id.
ReplyDeleteYeah websites are just going to do it automatically behind the scenes and bury the details in the fine print of their TOS, eliminating the chance to passively opt out.
ReplyDeleteOh look, the people saying "they're going to use the robots to profile you" were right the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI hate this planet.
Does this mean that people will be able to curse without getting demonitized?
ReplyDeletelmao. That's a good point, but probably not.
DeleteA lot of man-children about to get nuked
ReplyDeleteMy main issue with this whole debacle is that hackers could easily hijack this to take your information. It's really not even hard when you think about it. ReplyDeleteMy Gmail account was a beta (a now meaningless term) test
ReplyDeleteIt can also buy bottom shelf liquor without shame.
This is good if it works.
ReplyDeleteBad if it works like Instagram - which has been incorrectly flagging normal people for CP for weeks now - to the point that the Korean government had to get involved!
They can't do some simple fucking math? If the minimum age to register an account is 13, and that account is more than five years old, how old is that user likely to be?
ReplyDeleteBummer. I guess this is the end of my YT usage. What little of it i used anyway.
ReplyDeleteYou’ll have to watch an AD to verify your age and then watch an AD to get back to your video.
ReplyDeleteVideos of home maintenance are about to skyrocket.
ReplyDeleteFark is going the same direction. No one under the age of 60 is going to be allowed to post.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Google is my phone and main email provider. I guess I should back up EVERYTHING now offline pending them cutting off service for some bullshit.
ReplyDeleteIm guessing people buying permium wont be affected :)
ReplyDeleteI’ve been on YouTube for 20 years. I think illl check out. It was 2005 when I joined
ReplyDeleteI will just stop using the internet
ReplyDeleteWe about to all be reading books by candlelight in protest of all these AI companies.
ReplyDeleteoh noes, I’m not going to be able to access millions of random bs videos, spam, ads, ai-generated crap and content-created shit. whatever will i do with my life from now on?!
ReplyDeleteGet bent. There is no way on earth i would give up my ID to watch a YouTube video. I must admit I find it mildly hilarious that you can probably trick the ai by adult Maxxing your content. Throw on some videos about the economy and news articles about the stock market.
ReplyDeleteOur AI couldn't verify your age, please give us your ID so we can 'share' it to a third-party for verification. Oh, you don't want to? Fuck off, then.
ReplyDeleteThis means we can uncensor YouTube videos now right? Right?
ReplyDeleteIf YT decides I'm not of age and asks me to upload my government I.D., I guess I'm watching YouTube Kids from then on.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I am watching a bunch of Loony tunes and sponge Bob....
ReplyDeleteI opened my Gmail account back when you need to be invited by a fried that already had a Google account.
ReplyDeleteBeen using this same account since then. My Google account is old enough to have enlisted. Gone to war. Make it back to civilian life.
And have their war time caused physical/mental injuries denied by the current administration.
What would the VA of Google be like 🤔
DeleteNo matter what your ailments are, you'll with be told it's somehow cancer. Or is not service related.
DeleteCan't possibly be any worse
DeleteDo I really need YouTube? I can just watch Netflix while I eat
ReplyDeleteI'm really curious to see what it thinks. Probably not a lot of underage people listening to vintage jazz and classical music and watching long videos about advanced math. But I also watch a lot of video games.
ReplyDeleteGood luck AI-guessing my age based on the viewing habits of me and my 9yo who uses my YT Premium
ReplyDeletePlease drink verification can
ReplyDeleteUgh hopefully not for long
ReplyDeleteHell yeah! With absolutely zero issues too! I’m /sure of it.
ReplyDeleteThat means YouTubers don't need to be advertiser friendly now, right?... Right?
ReplyDeleteSo if my kids use my account, I get branded a kid great.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick of these fucking battery powered, gas guzzling, electricity draining, piece of shit clankers
ReplyDeleteJust stop watching. It's that simple
ReplyDeleteThey need to fix their sexual ads targeting children
ReplyDeleteCan this AI cut my ads since I've been a day 1?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteOkay 🤷🏼♀️
ReplyDeleteMy counteroffer is that I simply don't use YouTube.
its the end of youtube soon
ReplyDeleteThey I have to prove I’m real to some clanker.
ReplyDeleteBut we will keep serving near porn ads to everyone because money.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll use something else, then. Get fucked, YouTube. Puts on Alphabet.
ReplyDeleteSo a data leak in 2 weeks?
ReplyDeleteBooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteProton not secure.
DeleteSo is watching pc gaming and Lego building channels adult or teen bahvior?
ReplyDeleteI have an account that's got to be over 21 years old... Surely I'm not going to have to go through that bullshit.
ReplyDeleteSo all we gotta do is hop on any Source game and use morgan freeman or any other NPC to verify? Fine by me.
ReplyDeleteI've had a Gmail account since April 1, 2004.
ReplyDeleteDoes that count, YouTube?!
YouTube: since you just watch your favorite cartoon opening from your childhood. NOoooo~! Plus a 90 year ban cause you watched videos that are about hating our glorious ai idea.
DeleteThe admin is going to try to get isp level with it. Big daddy wants his data. I forecast a massive USA intranet within the decade. Just like North Korea.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the internet 😢. Such a beautiful dream. Now turning into a corporate/government controlled police state
ReplyDeleteStrange nobody is voting for this yet its being pushed universally by multiple governments very strongly, wonder why
ReplyDeletePhew, for a moment I thought they were going to implement something effective and reliable!
ReplyDeleteSo will our adult creators be able to use big person words now too?
ReplyDeleteGreaaaaaaaaaat. On the silver lining, i may just finish listening to all my podcasts then!
ReplyDeleteGood. Go back to YouTube kids let the adults use the app.
ReplyDeletefirefox + ublock origin come thru baby
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this to tell me with my 25+ years old account that im not over 18
ReplyDeleteThere are other video channels. It's time we used them and promoted them.
ReplyDeleteI follow a few people on YouTube whose content I really enjoy. That being said, the rest is just slop. Aside from the well being of a few streamers and content providers I care about, YT can go fuck. The only way to protest is to simply jump ship.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how this will affect third-party clients... I've been using Pipepipe for a while, fuck Google
ReplyDeleteOh, please. All they'll have to do is set up a playlist for 90s sitcoms and home repair then run it through a few times a week.
ReplyDeleteGuess I’ll have to do something productive then 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteI tried to access a subreddit about a specific medical condition. Nothing gruesome but was basically asked to verify my age. Like what the fuck. This is taking enshittification to a whole new level.
ReplyDeletegonna be a massive opportunity for someone. surely gaming this BS is within the realm of programming.
ReplyDeleteLogin to your America Off Line account, and browse the internet as 72 year old Canadian Mildred Stephenson.
