don't act like this is new they are hemmoraging subscribers due to their woke agenda filled content. Kinnel is just the idiot woke crowd jumping on board
Well, the protestors won though. Kimmel is back on. Something conservatives haven't been able to do with Disney with their boycott attempts over "wokeness'.
Exactly I guess these morons did not pay attention to the local, state, or federal, government as the subject of the 1st Amendment. Nowhere is your neighbor, employer or the internet or TV listed in the 1st amendment-tards
Well I'll bet that Disney lost a lot more than 1.7 million subscribers over thier woke LGBQT, Policies I know because my entire family canceled our subscriptions a long time ago.
I did not have Disney in the first place to be able to cancel them, but I preached it from the rooftops to cancel all broadcast tv, to cut the cable and streaming and just choose free tv. Cancel them all, they are sure to feel the effect.
Mine was lapsing, anyway but I saw the price hike and that sealed it for me. I like that not only is it a lost customer but it's an annual non-renewal, which is bad for the reports. I'm gonna spring for an annual sub to ‘Shudder’, instead.
Literally seeing the headlines reminded me I had an active subscription I don’t use, had to reset password and everything to quit it. Was much easier than ending internet service.
Disney was afraid of the FCC’s threats to take away ABC’s license to broadcast shows on television, and by right-wing-owned affiliates saying they would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live anymore.
Then Disney was afraid of boycotts from people who like free speech and democracy, so they restored the show.
That’s about 1.4% of their 128 million reported subscribers as of June 2025 (source:AI). Some of that loss was probably attributable to other factors, but still it’s fairly clear the boycott made an impact.
This doesn't cover the people like me who cancelled, then resubscribed with a cheaper bundle (which I'd been meaning to do for months, and Jimmy Kimmel of all people gave me the excuse.)
Before I had and cancelled HULU/Dis/ESPN, I had an espn account for fantasy football (free) and that email became my Disney account paired with FFL. Thats to say, I wonder if that 128m includes free subscribers like me.
That was the number just because of kimmel. We need additional data about ppl who were on the fence because of kimmel issue and then pull the trigger tk cancel after they send out email saying they hike the fee
They are trying to make it up now off the current customer base. I got my rate increase email notice and I promptly cancelled my subscription. Stop giving companies like this your hard earned $$$
Crazy only 1.7 million Americans are interested in defending freedom of speech. This is how a country becomes a dictatorship. In the end, the only ones that care are the ones being put in the camps and the ovens.
Are you suggesting those details are enough to compare the number of lost subscribers in September to August? The number of Disney+ subscribers has been trending down anyway, and surely the Kimmel thing brought an immediate spike in subscriber cancellations, but I wonder how much it factors in over the span of a month. Disney+ subscriptions are a month (or longer) at a time, so it could be that a large chunk of the people who cancelled last week were people who weren't going to renew their month-long membership anyway.
But I mean I guess you could just repeat the exact same thing that the previous person said without adding any thoughts whatsoever except an irrelevant insult. That's always welcome.
I cancelled Paramount as well and told them it was because they cancelled Colbert. I hope many more would do this. You can tell them why when you cancel.
I went to cancel paramount due to the south Park delays and they offered me 2 more months free. I guess I'm going to enjoy the offer period and cancel again at in November lol
1.7 million paid subscribers gone after Disney suspended Kimmel! Talk about an expensive decision - those subscriber losses add up fast in the streaming wars
Not super surprising. Disney+ has been riding a lot of goodwill with casual subscribers, but moves like suspending Kimmel seem to hit people where it matters, trust and perception. Losing 1.7 million in a single week is huge, and it shows that some subscribers aren’t just there for the content, they care about the company’s values and decisions.
I cancelled because Amex platt now pays for YouTube tv in digital credit. I was using for Disney which I don’t like. Prefer to use the credit towards YouTube tv so I dropped Disney. Had nothing to do with Kimmel.
So you say Donald Trump caused the Kimmel incident and you were mad because he wanted Kimmel gone. So,"presumedly" he gets rid of one guy with government over reach and people banned together to destroy an entire platform risking 1000s of jobs. Doesn't that eventually cancel Kimmel anyway along with a few more Marvel flops. Most of the conservatives can't stand Disney with the over woke non stop stuff but they didn't quit, or did they. So where's the benefit of any of this if the right just keeps watching? Sounds like they are the money bet for Disney .
Kimmels numbers are dropping like a rock after his return as well . The day of he had around 6.5 million viewers , the following Thursday it was 2.3 (64% drop) . People tuned in to see the hype or whatever but after that passed , people lost interest
Jimmy lost a lot more viewers than Disney

ReplyDeleteKimmel is back, but don't expect us to forget. Stupid move by FCC, Disney and the orange buffoon.
ReplyDeleteFCC had nothing to do with it either way.
DeleteNot a question of free speech, get over it
ReplyDeleteWell, the protestors won though. Kimmel is back on. Something conservatives haven't been able to do with Disney with their boycott attempts over "wokeness'.
DeleteExactly I guess these morons did not pay attention to the local, state, or federal, government as the subject of the 1st Amendment. Nowhere is your neighbor, employer or the internet or TV listed in the 1st amendment-tards
DeleteSure is. Prove me wrong
Deleteone has to realize the left is once again behind on the 8 ball..disney has lost 72% of there subscribers the day they announced they were woke
Deletehave you looked at his ratings today? they are worse now than before he got let go
DeleteThis is a flat out lie.
DeleteDo MAGA think no one has access to facts?
Well I'll bet that Disney lost a lot more than 1.7 million subscribers over thier woke LGBQT, Policies I know because my entire family canceled our subscriptions a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteIm sure i does not have ANYTHING to do with yet another rate increase, does it????? tell the half truths , out right lies we are tired of this.
ReplyDeletethe real problem for Disney is since they went woke over 4 years ago they have lost 72% of their subscribers. WOKE GO BROKE..
ReplyDeletethe mouse house only cares about their pocket$
ReplyDeleteI did not have Disney in the first place to be able to cancel them, but I preached it from the rooftops to cancel all broadcast tv, to cut the cable and streaming and just choose free tv. Cancel them all, they are sure to feel the effect.
ReplyDeleteNot going back to Disney
ReplyDelete1.7 million and 1 since I am cancelling my subscription since they brough him back
ReplyDeleteAll the MAGA tears.
DeleteSad!
to quote the left..."nobody is coming for your free speech."
ReplyDeleteAnd yet, it was the right that did just that.
DeleteMAGA rage fail.
DeleteAh, consumer activism at it's finest. Hit 'em where it hurts, it almost always works.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing corporations understand is profit. They only change when what they’re doing financially hurts them.
DeleteTo all the people who were doubting if people actually cancelled here you go!
ReplyDeleteCoordinated at the same time was key
DeleteThey also announced a price hike which led to people cancelling their subscription
DeleteMine was lapsing, anyway but I saw the price hike and that sealed it for me. I like that not only is it a lost customer but it's an annual non-renewal, which is bad for the reports. I'm gonna spring for an annual sub to ‘Shudder’, instead.
DeleteI cancelled mine the day before they announced that lol. Made me feel a bit better that I did.
DeleteYeah they probably should have rolled that back. They created a perfect storm two good reasons to leave
DeleteLiterally seeing the headlines reminded me I had an active subscription I don’t use, had to reset password and everything to quit it. Was much easier than ending internet service.
DeleteWhy were they apparently banking on their audience being conservative? Don’t conservatives hate Disney?! All I hear from them is woke complaints.
ReplyDeleteI’m so confused.
Disney was afraid of the FCC’s threats to take away ABC’s license to broadcast shows on television, and by right-wing-owned affiliates saying they would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live anymore.
DeleteThen Disney was afraid of boycotts from people who like free speech and democracy, so they restored the show.
The downside of being “huge” is that there are more pressure points a crusader government can use against you.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
Delete… and with their price hike, I’m not coming back! They just made unplugging A LOT easier.
ReplyDeleteYep, I canceled my subscription and never looking back
ReplyDeleteThat’s about 1.4% of their 128 million reported subscribers as of June 2025 (source:AI). Some of that loss was probably attributable to other factors, but still it’s fairly clear the boycott made an impact.
ReplyDeleteGood.
DeleteMoney talks people
1.4% in just a few days is so huge.
DeleteI bet they were bleeding hundreds of thousands a day before they reneged.
This doesn't cover the people like me who cancelled, then resubscribed with a cheaper bundle (which I'd been meaning to do for months, and Jimmy Kimmel of all people gave me the excuse.)
DeleteBefore I had and cancelled HULU/Dis/ESPN, I had an espn account for fantasy football (free) and that email became my Disney account paired with FFL. Thats to say, I wonder if that 128m includes free subscribers like me.

DeleteThis is the kind of message that people need to send companies... nothing else works...
ReplyDeleteIndeed, money talks. Money is a universal language.
DeleteEven though I had a $3/month promotional rate that included Hulu, I had no qualm canceling.
ReplyDeleteI’ll probably sign up for the next season of that series that dramatized the rise of authoritarian regimes which just had a stellar second season.
What? That’s it for Andor? Oh well, at least they have nothing left to tempt me with.
How many of those people resubscribed already?
ReplyDeleteNot many…til a new great show drops
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteThat's why they raised the prices!
ReplyDeleteNot enough frankly
ReplyDeleteI’m sure they lost subscribers but is there a better source than the Handbasket?
ReplyDeleteThey are trying to make it up now off the current customer base. I got my rate increase email notice and I promptly cancelled my subscription. Stop giving companies like this your hard earned $$$
ReplyDeleteAlong with all the other money they've been burning for the past decade due to forgetting how to write decent movies.
ReplyDeleteDid you include the amount they lost for the subsequent price hike for their subscription?
ReplyDeleteDuring that same week, they announced that prices would be going up. They literally don’t give a shit.
ReplyDeleteGood. FAFO at work.
ReplyDeleteOh they don’t like it when people actually do vote with their dollars. Also I wonder what loss they took on ad revenue
ReplyDeleteI was one of em. Yar har har n a bottle o rum. Or something.
ReplyDeleteAnd not going back
ReplyDeleteAnd let’s NOT go back, guys! Stay strong
ReplyDeleteCount me as one of them. I’m not going back. The fact that they suspended him at all is egregious.
ReplyDeleteCrazy only 1.7 million Americans are interested in defending freedom of speech. This is how a country becomes a dictatorship. In the end, the only ones that care are the ones being put in the camps and the ovens.
ReplyDeleteLet that be a lesson to ya, Disney (and any other corporations who have the urge to trample on our constitutional rights).
ReplyDeleteIf I was a major shareholder of Disney, I would like to have a stern talk with the decision makers here.
ReplyDeletewish i was a a subscriber to even unsubscribe
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that’s number is Global or US-only. (They lost me in Japan.)
ReplyDeleteNot enough .. keep up the pressure
ReplyDeleteMost folks have resubscribed. 30-40 mill dollars is nothing to them
DeleteNot me because I don’t give a fuck what others do
ReplyDeleteapathy towards government censorship is badass af, save some pussy for the rest of us

DeleteAgreeing with a popular opinion isn’t the same as being a sheep when that popular opinion is rooted in facts.
Come to us with facts if you want us to take anything you have to say seriously.
I wonder how many subscribers they lose in an average week. This doesn't mean much without those metrics.
ReplyDeleteFirst paragraph of the article: “That falloff reportedly marked a 436 percent increase over the usual churn rate for the service.”
Deletereading is hard. you expect me to read?!
DeleteYeah, but no official confirmation on the figure. It'd be interesting to know the real numbers and comparisons of September vs August.
DeleteDisney lost 1.7 million subscribers in the week after firing Jimmy Kimmel. There was also a 436% increase in the churn rate. Do you math?
DeleteAre you suggesting those details are enough to compare the number of lost subscribers in September to August? I know I was all set to keep them afterwards, but they had to go and raise rates. Genius move that.
ReplyDeleteYet then they decide to increase their prices too right after! That’s really gunna keep people.
ReplyDeleteI cancelled Paramount as well and told them it was because they cancelled Colbert. I hope many more would do this. You can tell them why when you cancel.
ReplyDeleteI went to cancel paramount due to the south Park delays and they offered me 2 more months free. I guess I'm going to enjoy the offer period and cancel again at in November lol
DeleteHey good to know. Thanks.
DeleteI wont be renewing my subscription until the planet has mellowed out and the rich stop price gouging everything.
ReplyDeleteMy gf planned on canceling Disney for a few months but hadn’t gotten around to it. This fiasco was like “oh yes let’s get that done”
ReplyDeleteAnd I know of at least one that is NOT resubscribing
ReplyDeleteAnd yet their stock price is essentially unphased. Its almost like its not as big of a deal as the losers that cancelled think it is..
ReplyDeleteGood, they killed Star Wars and Marvel.
ReplyDeleteGood job, us!!
ReplyDelete1.7 million paid subscribers gone after Disney suspended Kimmel! Talk about an expensive decision - those subscriber losses add up fast in the streaming wars
ReplyDeleteI canceled, and will stay canceled. Don't fuck with free speech. Bringing kimmel back changes nothing.
ReplyDeleteJimmy K tossing it with both hands at how popular he is.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s the source? This is likely not true. Disney doesn’t report their subscriber numbers so there is no way of knowing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I saw this. It reminded me to cancel my Disney/hulu
ReplyDeleteNot super surprising. Disney+ has been riding a lot of goodwill with casual subscribers, but moves like suspending Kimmel seem to hit people where it matters, trust and perception. ReplyDeleteThat’s three times as many people who have actually watched Kimmels show. Fake numbers
ReplyDeleteI cancelled because Alien Earth ended
DeleteThey also raised the subscription price since then too which definitely didn't help.
ReplyDeleteSo you say Donald Trump caused the Kimmel incident and you were mad because he wanted Kimmel gone. ReplyDeleteAnyone with kids Disney app is by far the most used app on the tv....
