    4. there’s a reason why people mask themselves on both sides. They’re afraid of the violence, and they’re protecting themselves and their families. The difference is one side doesn’t respect the law and the other side does. What side are you on? That’s the beauty of violence, we all mock it until it knocks on your door. The world witnessed a man shot when all he wanted was to be proven wrong, and was mocked for it. His death was celebrated. Don’t talk to me about violence brother. The scariest violence is when good men have to do bad things and there’s nowhere to hide from that.

    2. You arrest them and deport them?

      Delete
    3. Technically, they’re not arresting since they don’t have legal authority, and they’re not deporting since they’re not sending people back to their country of origin, but a random third country instead. It’s kidnapping and human smuggling. I’m not saying anyone should try this with an ICE agent or anyone else for that matter, just clarifying semantics.

      Delete
    4. Public shaming should be the results; they hide their faces because they KNOW if people knew what they were doing, they'd get censured. They're aware that what they are doing is unpopular, wrong, and cruel, and would ostracize them.

    3. Rorschach was also incredibly racist and hated immigrants...

      Delete
    4. The film version was kinda okay but yes the Graphic Novel version was racist, homophobic and anti immigrant...

Nonetheless, I don't think he'd go so far as join ICE and he'd definitely not be a MAGA.

      Delete
    5. Fan of the film, didn't read the comic book. Rorshach was definitely homophobic in the film. I fear he would've eventually turned his methods to immigrants but I feel he would've toned them down though. I don't think being here illegally is something he'd brutalize them over.

Edit: I falsely accused Snyder of being right wing/maga. The reply corrected me.

      Delete
    6. rorschach in the original graphic novel is very explicitly a conservative who is a fan of a newsletter called out by even the newsstand man selling it as racist edit; also quick google says synder publically identifies as a democrat and endorsed biden during the 2020 election so not maga

      Delete
    7. Damn. I always heard that Snyder was right wing. As in the movie 300 was his way of addressing the war in Iraq.(despite the bad guys are actually Persian) I'll correct it.

      Delete
    8. There is also a HBO TV Series in which rorschach plays a more redneck role, but he doesn't associate with the extremists.

      Delete
    9. i’ve been meaning to watch the show but honestly even with rorschach being my favorite character in the comic, i don’t like it when media smooths him down so he’s a more likable main protagonist. like yeah fair i doubt general audiences are really wanting the main character to be a conservative nutcase who is incredibly racist and homophonic to an insane degree (and is described by the author as a fascist) but i feel like you lose the entire point of the story if you make him just a misanthrope edit: also unfortunately yes i would absolutely see graphic novel rorschach being in ice. it perfectly fits his character

      Delete
    10. He's certainly less relatable in the tv series. It's worth a watch.

    1. You say that and I'm mostly sympathetic but I can scarcely imagine how many undercover operatives and their families there are whose lives are now in jeopardy due to ongoing and extremely dangerous operations being so abruptly exposed.

That is to say: Fuck ICE but not everyone is an ICEy dickhead. Some of em are actually doing good shit for us and thus don't deserve to be shit on. Especially so for their families and even more especially for their kids.

Imagine being an FBI undercover in one of the cartels right now, you just got doxxed / exposed and you don't have much time before the cartel tortures, trafficks, and/or brutally murders you and your family.

      Delete
    2. FBI’s not going undercover in cartel’s. Not to mention how incompetent Patel’s FBI is after firing veteran agents.

      Delete

    3. And how would you know exactly? Do you really think that would be information that they would give the public?

Furthermore, that is just one example. other than the people themselves who can actually say how many undercover operations are now in jeopardy because someone decided dox 'em.

And if you're going to tell me that their lives and the lives of their families, their children are not worth considering because one of their family members decided to work for a government who became fascist within their lifetime and didn't immediately up and quit then you probably know as well as I do that you have no empathy and that you're just as monstrous as they are, possibly even worse.

      Delete
    4. there's a difference between having no empathy and letting people reap what they sow

    5. Obviously you empathize with the poor ICE agents. Do you also empathize with the billionaires when they whine?

There’s about 300 million Americans that we can and should also care about. Good people are being fired or persecuted for doing right and doing their jobs. Anyone doing the bidding of this regime is against us.

    8. It isn't reasonable to assume any ICE agents are doing good work. The trump administration has purged integrity from the agency, so anyone interested in doing good work is gone. They are not free to do whatever they want, they get assignments and orders they must follow. If you have evidence that any ICE agents are doing work compatible with integrity, ethics and respect for human rights I'd like to see it. Literally, I would like to be wrong.

We don't know if there are undercover agents in a cartel and it seems unlikely. They are not permitted to do so without an invitation from the Mexican government which has passed legislation removing diplomatic immunity from them.

It may be that the trump administration some there anyway, given his purge of ethics and integrity, but agents who lack those things and take on illegal assignments have made their own bed.

I want to know who enforces laws on US territory while wearing a mask. I want to know which of my neighbors is shitty enough to work for ICE. I'm not going to attack them, but I will ignore them, not allow my kids to associate with their kids, and generally refuse them the common courtesies due to respectable members of civil society, because they aren't.

      Delete
    9. That’s the danger you accept when working for fascism.

Integrity would mean resigning. Refusing to do so for a paycheck is tantamount to supporting the takeover and overthrowing of our democracy.

      Delete
    10. Has the government always been fascist?

You're also reducing it down to just a paycheck but it's a lot more nuanced than that I would think? Sure, there's a paycheck but it's also the rest of the package that allows your family to have a life.

Did they sign up to be exposed without any warning?

Before all this political shit started, weren't they just people trying to make a positive difference in the world? Sure, there are plenty of dickheads, perhaps even a majority but even so, even if there's only a small minority there are still good people in there.

Without them, who would enforce our laws? Who would keep people from robbing your house, killing you, raping and selling your children, and murdering your family?

When, or rather if, the Epstein list ever get revealed who do we expect to arrest the people who are responsible? Who do we expect to lock them behind bars and then stand guard over them in prison?

      Delete
    11. Of course there is nuance - I'm sure there are plenty of people in the FBI who are there because they believe that it'd be worse if they left and were replaced with yes-men. And maybe there's someone in ICE who needed the signing bonus because they have a sick kid in the hospital and healthcare is in shambles.

But can we really afford to think about that when the rights and lives of people are on the line? Because it is a life-and-death situation for immigrants, make no mistake, and we can't assume that non-immigrants are safe (because there are always more enemies to be found when it comes to this flavor of authoritarianism).

To a certain extent, it's better tactics to "pull out" the pillars of support (e.g., convert people, using sympathy and conversation to convince people) rather than "push into" (e.g., direct attacks, particularly those with a physical risk), but that's not always possible. Higher-ups and people with a lot invested in the regime are much harder to convert through softer tactics.

"Without them, who would enforce our laws? Who would keep people from robbing your house, killing you, raping and selling your children, and murdering your family?"

Our neighbors and our local police - these are also the people who are easier to convince/accommodate when it comes to these kinds of movements. Nobody likes it when some external agency stomps into their work, refuses to cooperate with them, and agitates your neighbors. There's plenty of videos of ICE breaking traffic laws, ramming into people, and so on - this makes people less safe. And they're eroding public trust in the law because they're not cooperating with local police and largely ignoring laws surrounding how law enforcement is meant to operate.

It's also worth noting that violent crime has been falling over the past 20 years, minus a blip around covid, so this is also rootless fearmongering.

      Delete

    1. The main issue with DHS workers who are not identifying themselves are protecting themselves from future prosecutions. They are given a broad authority to ignore the US constitution. That is why they break into homes of US citizens and leave behind a mess. Or tear gas/shoot at actual cops.

CBP officers at airports don't cover their face - because they don't intend on violating a person's constitutional rights.

    2. For similar, but even more foundationally sound reasons, this is why finances, all finances, need to be public. Because money is inherently "publically owned". As in, the "institution" of the dollar itself is owned by the United States Citizens.

If John Jackson has far more than his fair share, and isn't paying taxes, that is information that has value for the average citizen to know.
