Watch Global New Year's Eve fireworks, 2026 countdown live

Watch cities around the world ring in the new year.

If you're not into crowds, streaming the New Year’s Eve fireworks from home has become a bit of an annual hack. HUNTR/X gets it — ringing in midnight from your couch is highly underrated, toasting what was and could be ahead with an actual glass, not an overpriced plastic cup whose crappy contents are inevitably destined for the front of your shirt in the chaos.

Thankfully, digital streams of the iconic and deeply expensive fireworks from around the globe are easily accessible, from the iconic lit-up vista of Sydney Harbour to London's Thames affair. Here's a guide to where you can watch the countdowns live or on demand — this is your 2026, you can decide when midnight happens for you.

The key to figuring out New Year's Eve celebrations is knowing your timezones. Mashable's Chance Townsend spelled it out last year, writing:

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the world’s standard time system and each location’s time zone is measured as an offset from UTC. For example, UTC+0 includes cities like London, meaning their clocks align exactly with UTC. Cities to the east, like Dubai (UTC+4), are ahead of UTC, celebrating earlier, while those to the west, like New York City (UTC-5), are behind, ringing in the New Year hours later.

Starting at UTC+14 in Kiritimati (a tiny island country in the Micronesia region of Oceania and the first to celebrate) and ending in Hawaii at UTC-10 (the last), this time zone progression lets us follow the global party as midnight strikes in each region.

  4. I liked the drone effects, especially the horse. I don't think they are as hard on the environment as the fireworks. I liked the bootmen(?) parade, and the Pope at the beautiful nativity at the Vatican, even though NYE doesn't have much to do with Christmas. I am happy that people all over the world found some pleasure together, and that all the people at Mar-a-Lago got a bit of extra sleep listening to the other drone effect. I wonder what they had to pay to attend that shindig.
Happy, hopeful 2026, and remember to keep looking over our shoulders, while keeping our elbows up.

  11. We rang it in in Paris and it was better than anything New York has ever done. Hands down.

NY needs to take notes…..the Parisians know how to get it done in style. Times Square is crass and tacky in comparison.

  12. The drone light shows in China and Abu Dhabi were extraordinary. Thousands of drones co-ordinated to reproduce the famous galloping horse brush and ink painting over the Great Wall. New York on the other hand was completely commercialized with heavy brand displays. A not especially interesting Kia branded dropping ball; revellers wearing paper top hats branded with the name of a fitness company. No light show, just the usual confetti. America outdone.

  13. Happy '26! I hope next year you'll include The Netherlands! Until I spent my first New Year's there, I thought I "knew" fireworks from a lifetime of holidays spent in different cities and countries. I'm not sure anyone anywhere does fireworks like the Dutch. Even in small villages you can hear them until 5:00 a.m.

  14. It always begins the same way—with joy and hope and loud fireworks. And it always ends the same—quiet and pensive reflection on the loss and tragedy of the past year.

  22. “New Zealand among the first”
    ?
Being 13 hours ahead of what used to be GMT and 21 hours ahead of Pacific Time and an hour ahead of the Kamchatka Peninsula because of Daylight Saving Time here, who could also be “among the first”?

  23. My favorite was the Balinese: colorful, beautiful, real culture, and no noise.

But I'm glad I'm home alone, where it's peaceful, affordable, and apparently safe. I'm playing chess online, watching reruns of THE BLACKLIST, and fixin' to open some cans of tamales and Ranch Style Beans for supper. It's 7:15 p.m. where I am. Maybe add in some bread and butter, Fritos, red onions, and a swig of chilled Dr Pepper. Man, that's livin'.

Who said that American decadence is a lost art?

    ReplyDelete
  24. A bit of fact checking here - Tonga shares our time zone and has since they advanced their clocks at the millennium in an attempt to have the first Dawn of the new millennium, but our relative position to the south meant that we first saw the light that morning. The Chatham Islands as part of NZ and to the east are 45 minutes ahead so they were not only “among the first”, but first.

  29. As a horsewoman, my favorite was the drone induced rearing horse seemingly ready to jump the bridge. And as an animal lover, I think of all the non-humans who are terrified, run away, become injured or die because the sounds terrify them. Can't fireworks happen without all the noise? Please!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dear God, when will we end the horrific fireworks? The havoc that fireworks reap for both wildlife and domestic animals cannot be justified. Just so we can have a few minutes of listening to some big booms and pretty lights? How about drones to make beautiful light formations instead? Please, people, have some compassion for animals and the environment.

  33. This was a year to forget. From Ukraine and Gaza to the fascist regime taking a stranglehold in the United States, 2025 was a grueling, toxic, horrid, bloody, cruel, sadistic, callous, awful mess. Let’s all work to make 2026 infinitely better. We can start by electing better leaders and representatives. We owe it to ourselves; it’s our duty as citizens of the world.

2026 won't be a normal year. It’ll bring cosmic upheaval that rewrites timelines, destroys old worlds, and forces humanity to wake up at soul-level. 2026 is the year the universe flips the script and nothing, absolutely nothing, remains the same.
