Dazzling 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' footage from D23 Expo is finally online
Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker made a big splash over the weekend with new footage that debuted at Disney's D23 Expo featuring — among other things — Rey wielding a dual-bladed lightsaber, a la Darth Maul.
Well. That's here, and it's a whole lot cooler than it sounds from that description. There's also plenty more here. The story that kicked off in 1977 is coming to an end in December, and yup, I'm crying.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on Dec. 20.
Mashable partner.
have to remember that most trailers are misleading.
ReplyDeleteThey either just punked a gulluable fan base, who want a dark side Rey, or they just spoiled the best twist in their trilogy. Either way, we all just lost.
ReplyDeleteWell, final chapters until they make episodes 10, 11 & 12.
ReplyDeleteCOOL STORY, BRO.
ReplyDeleteFinally.
ReplyDeleteDON'T CARE.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone still care about Star Wars? Seems like a dead series.
ReplyDeleteThis would be awesome and unexpected if she actually went full on dark side...but I don’t think Disney has the “stuff” to make it happen. I think it’s just a vision or a clone as well.
ReplyDeleteRey is a descendant of Palpatine. You have current good (Rey) struggling against her true nature (dark side) and current evil (Kylo Ren) struggling against his true nature (good).
ReplyDeleteOr she goes full Bastilla Shan, gets captured after fighting Kylo and is tortured into going Dark Side.
ReplyDeleteOr they go fully unexpected and in the end it is actually Kylo saving Rey from the dark side and bringing her back into the light! Probably won't happen but that would be interesting to see!
ReplyDelete*unexciting yawn*
ReplyDeleteWhat about Kenobi?
Hopefully she doesn’t wear a mask and just a hood. Kinda want to see some wear of the Sith from the old republic
ReplyDeleteOMG I HOPE SO TOO !!
ReplyDeletePlease don’t be a dream
ReplyDeleteplease don’t be a dream
Please don’t be a dream
please don’t be a dream
Please don’t be a dream
please don’t be a dream
They didn't know any better. It was, after all, a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cancer windmill.
ReplyDeleteIll repeat what I said in another post on here about the new movie. I am calling it that it is just a “vision” of a possible future for her.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s a Russian deepfake meant to create in-fighting even among those adorable Ewoks.
ReplyDeleteIt’s definitely not her at any rate. I still cling to the theory that she’s a clone, and she’s gonna fight herself after easily dispatching Kylo Ren. Rey is totally the “daughter” of every human Jedi/Sith we’ve seen, like Cell. Luke was being literal when he said a thousand generations live in her.
ReplyDeleteAlso Luke did the same thing on Dagobah so it makes sense for Rey to do battle with her inner demons.
ReplyDeleteI’m seeing double! A four-bladed lightsaber!
ReplyDeleteWhy not just bedazzle it and cover it with “PROPERTY OF REY” labels?
ReplyDeleteSo in the post-original trilogy books (which aren’t canon now, apparently?) didn’t Emperor Palpatine clone himself and want to take over the body of Luke Jr. or Han Jr. or some junk? It’s firmly in canon that Palpatine’s master Darth Plagueis was apparently looking to unlock the secret of immortality, and you’ve got all of those clone troopers, so I’m going to take a stab and say that Rey is some kind of genetically engineered vessel meant for the Emperor and there’s a few more of her on that crashed star destroyer in the ocean that we see. That vision in the last film where there’s a whole row of her would prove to be a bit literal, also.
ReplyDeleteOf all the cockamamie ‘Rey is a clone’ theories I’ve read, that one makes the most sense.
ReplyDeleteThe now-canon Aftermath trilogy books seem to lend credence to this theory as well. (they’re worth reading if you like the SW bullshit like myself)
ReplyDeleteI like the theory that instead of clone she is actually a twin. Rey is the good one, and the evil one is played by Danny Devito.
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no. Her twin is, you guessed it... Frank Stallone.
ReplyDelete....Sure?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, why can’t I get excited for this?
I don’t know, but I bet if anyone responds to you, you’re going to tell us.
ReplyDeleteOh, dammit.
It happens with age. The little blue pill may help with that.
ReplyDeleteNot even a little for red-eyed C3PO or the lightsaber throw? I thought I was jaded. ;)
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, in shit that matters ever so slightly more, Megan Greenwell just shotgunned the kneecaps off the A.V. Club’s bosses on the way out of the room:

I can’t imagine what sort of F-minus idiot would invest in Spanfeller’s shit in 2019. He’s decayed from a hack into a swindler.
We’ve got positive ID on a concern troll.
ReplyDeleteGosh, thanks for the hot tip, Mr. Cronkite. That was three days ago.
ReplyDeleteYou know, sometimes I wish your parents would’ve paid more attention to you as a child, but in hindsight, I guess I can understand why a prostitute and a donkey wouldn’t want to spend that much time with each other after the deed was done. After all, it’s Tijuana. The last thing you want to do after you bust a nut in that town is stick around.
From the Lucasfilms and Disney Motion Pictures milking machine:
ReplyDeleteThe Rise of Skywalker
The Last Skywalker
The Jedi Strikes Back
The Return of The Last Jedi Skywalker
Rogue Jedi: A Rogue One Story
Revenge of the Skywalker
Star Wars: A New Jedi
Skywalker Awakens
The Jedi Menace
Skywalker: Another Star Wars Story
Attack of the Skywalkers
Or they release more prequels:
ReplyDeleteLuke on The Bright Side
Sith Down and Shut Up
Free Solo, a Han Story
2 Darths, 1 Cup
Jedi, Claudius
Skywalker: Fury Road.
ReplyDeleteThe Perfect Stormtrooper
ReplyDeleteFaces of Death Star
American History X-Wing
Paul Blart: Darth Maul Cop
Blue Harvest is the Warmest Color
And as with the original trilogy, it’s a serious issue that much of the dramatic conflict centers around the possibility that Luke/Rey will turn to the dark side, but this never feels remotely close to happening.
ReplyDeleteYou can’t really see Luke putting on a Sith robe and slaughtering younglings, and it’s the same thing with Rey. Even with Anakin, where we knew for 20+ years that he was going to turn to the dark side, it doesn’t feel believable when he goes ahead and does that. It feels like he turns because the plot dictated that he had to, because the movie had to end with him in the Darth Vader suit. The dark side is just so obviously evil, and evil people in real life rarely make a conscious choice to be evil.
It’s why Kylo Ren actually kinda resonates. I get him, and I get his turn to the dark side. It’s because he’s an angry internet chud who has daddy issues and can’t get laid.
ReplyDeleteWell, you see, it all makes sense when you realize that Anakin did it all to save the life of Padme.
ReplyDelete1. Anakin has disturbing visions about Padme dying.
2. He confides in Palpatine, who tells him he might have unlocked the secret of immortality.
3. Yadda yadda yadda.
4. Murders some children.
5. Almost chokes Padme to death.
I don’t understand why people criticize Lucas for not understanding human emotions and motivations.
I’ve had a theory that Rey was Force created like Anakin was. (That’s why she’s a natural in the Force, and why she was abandoned: Her parents didn’t want her.) Maybe two were created, or she’s twins?
ReplyDeleteplease, no. Just let her be some rando who steps up. No grand destiny, just a person who makes a choice to act.
ReplyDeleteI know it’s unlikely to be more than a vision, but I would be so here for it if Rey turns and Kylo ends up the hero. I realize he’s a Solo and not a Skywalker, but there would be something interesting to him switching sides to defeat Rey.
ReplyDeleteHe’s Anakin Skywalker’s grandson, isn’t he?
ReplyDeleteRight, but “Rise of Skywalker” does sort of imply someone who is going to refer to themselves as a Skywalker at some point. I’m not saying it would be the biggest leap, I just didn’t want to be jumped on for saying he’s a Skywalker. At any rate, I assume the rise isn’t Rey is a secret Skywalker, but rather Kylo is the hero.
ReplyDelete:10 for the prequels.
ReplyDeletethat’s :05 seconds to many...
ReplyDeleteThere is a clear inverse correlation between the order in which all of these movies were presented and the level of affection I feel towards those films and characters. I have no affinity or connection with Rey, Poe, Finn, or any of the other monosyllabic focus-grouped Disney creations we’ve now spent 5 years with, because at no point have any of them felt like real people.
ReplyDeleteSay what you want about the prequels (and boy is there a lot to say), but even most of their characters had more depth than the current crop.
