Trevor Noah has some sharp words for bored senators at Trump's impeachment

An impeachment trial is a fairly important event, given that it will literally decide whether or not the president stays in office.

But some senators are apparently not all that enthralled. In the clip above, Daily Show host Trevor Noah recaps how some of them have been absent during Donald Trump's trial, or even leaving early.

"This is not a good look, people," says Noah. "Senators are just leaving the room and then doing their own thing in the middle of an impeachment trial? You can't just walk away. This isn't a conversation with Ted Cruz."

Noah goes on to emphasise that these senators are jurors in a trial against the president.

"You can't just go home early because you're bored," he says. "That's your job!

"Imagine if normal people tried to pull that shit in the middle of jury duty. Huh? If someone was like, 'Urgh, now I've gotta hear from the victim's wife?!'"

He makes a very good point.

  1. We are allowing one guy to change our entire system and way of governing.

    1. no we're not. We're allowing an entire political party to use any and every excuse to use the constitution and our tax dollars to play politics. Fixed it.

    2. We'll see if you sing this tune when the parties change and all this tolerated nonsense becomes a way of life.

  3. It's political theater. None of it matters really. If you think otherwise, then you don't really understand what's happening.

    1. it may be a bit of a theatrical display, but it does matter as it’s a required portion of presidential impeachment. If you think otherwise, you don’t understand Article 1, Section 3 of the Constitution.

    2. I understand just fine. But this utterly is meaningless on multiple levels. First, it's a republican controlled Senate and they simply won't vote against him. So utterly meaningless theater. Second, if you believe there is any actual difference between the two parties, and that your vote counts, or that we are a variant of a democracy, then you are part of the sheep and you have bought into the sales pitch. We are an oligarchy run by huge corporations and the military industrial complex. Politicians and parties are part of the control system designed to keep the sheep managed.

    3. we don’t follow the Constitution because we’re sheep, we follow it because we live in America. You don’t get to tell people what they do or don’t really understand if you don’t understand that.
There is a difference between the two parties. If you don’t understand that, you’re delusional. If there was no difference, there would be no need for our current impeachment trial. If Democrats and Republicans were the same, then they wouldn’t have voted on party lines to impeach in the House.
Although there may not be nearly enough votes in the Senate to remove Trump, impeachment and its process are constitutionally necessary to attempt to remove him.
I’d rather be called a sheep and understand constitutional law than someone so overcome with self indulgence and arrogance that they thumb their nose at the Constitution and call people who understand it sheep.

    4. incumbents enjoy a 97% re-election rate. Both parties will grow government and keep increasing your taxes. There is no difference. But you can keep believing what you like. I'd guess you also believe government is inherently good and is truly looking out for everyone. Tasty koolaid friend.

  4. Because the impeachment is a joke and theatrics. People cant accept hell win 2020 and country is powerful, doing well. They need negative control. If the Dems wanted a landslide win and most of the country hated him, then leave him in power to lose against the election. But we all know that ain't happening and why this must. Suck on those facts

  5. Yeah I don't care for Trump either. That guy has to go.

  6. Correct, if I pulled that on jury service, I'd be found in contempt of court. What this shows for Americans is contempt for their constitution and the USA electorate. It like watching a banana republic

  8. Lmao of course they walked out. Nobody’s gonna tell the real truth of how Schiff was telling the SAME stupid lie every impeachment trial day. The same lie he’s been telling for months now. Of course y’all wouldn’t know because the demoncrats know you idiots aren’t following the whole trial
