Jennifer Hudson hits every note as queen of soul Aretha Franklin in 'Respect' trailer
Find out what respect means to Aretha Franklin in the first trailer for the upcoming biopic, starring Jennifer Hudson.
Directed by Liesl Tommy, Respect stars Hudson as the queen of soul, civil rights activist, and cultural icon, tracking her rise to fame from her childhood spent performing in her father's church to becoming one of the greatest singers of all time. The film stars Hudson, alongside Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
It's the second listen we've had of Hudson's pitch-perfect rendition of Franklin's super hit, "Respect," since the teaser, but the trailer gives more of a look at Franklin's life and career. Well, the shinier moments of it anyway — Franklin's life was not easy.
Respect will be released in 2021.
