Trump tweets joke story about Twitter shutting down for Biden, talks about it as if it's real

The Twitter blunders from president Trump just keep coming.

On Friday, Trump retweeted a story from parody site Babylon Bee which claims that Twitter shut down its network to slow the spread of negative news about Joe Biden.

"Wow, this has never been done in history. This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T," Trump commented.

The story in question is an obvious parody. It claims that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey actually used a sledgehammer to smash Twitter's servers in order to stop the spread of negative news about Biden.

"Dorsey ran downstairs and started smashing as many computers as he could, but he did need to ask for some help, as the hammer was pretty heavy. None of the programmers could lift the hammer, either. Eventually, they managed to program a robot to pick up the sledgehammer and smash the servers," the story reads.

Babylon Bee's "About Us" section clearly states that it's a parody site. "The Babylon Bee is the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims. We write satire about Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life," it says.

In reality, Twitter's servers did have issues Thursday evening, but not because Dorsey bludgeoned them with a sledgehammer. Twitter's official support account said the company "had some trouble" with internal systems, adding it hadn't found evidence of a security breach or a hack.

The list of Trump's Twitter blunders is long, and includes the infamous "covfefe" tweet, spelling his wife Melania's name incorrectly, and talking about "unpresidented" acts, to name a few. In this latest one, Trump is likely guilty of doing something both Facebook and Twitter have recently been battling: He shared a story without reading beyond the headline.

Don't do it, folks; you'll end up sharing completely ridiculous, fake news. Just like the President of the United States.

  1. What is sad is that this article is trying to persuade people that it isn’t true.

  13. Reminds me of the time that Trump had been watching an episode of WWE on tv and thought that WWE boss Vince McMahon had been killed when his limo had exploded, but it was just part of a fake backstory of animosity between Vince and one of the wrestlers.

    2. England btw, I have several American friends and they respect and acknowledge my opinions on the politics of their country, just like I respect their opinion on the political commentary of my country. Seems mutually fair, wouldn’t you agree?
