Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters perform 'My Hero' with Shane Hawkins at Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert | Mashable.
If you haven't watched Foo Fighters performing 'My Hero' with Shane Hawkins, get to it
Whether you're a Foo Fighters fan or not, this is one incredible performance.
During one of two tribute shows in London's Wembley Arena for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, the band invited a very special guest to join them for a powerful rendition of "My Hero." On drums, Hawkins' 16-year-old son, Shane.
"We have one more drummer that's going to come up and play with us, and let me tell you, I don't think I've ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person," frontman Dave Grohl said. "Beyond that, he's a member of our family. He needs to be here tonight with all of us, and I think it makes sense that he's going to come up and play with us tonight."
Grohl's not wrong — Hawkins hits the drums in this performance like nothing you've ever seen. It appears to be a truly powerful moment, not only for the crowd and the band, but for Hawkins himself. In short, he plays the hell out of it.
Hawkins died in March suddenly while touring with Foo Fighters in Colombia. Other special guests who shared memories of Hawkins at the tribute show included Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Jason Sudeikis, Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell, Dave Chapelle, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and more.
Liam Gallagher joined the band onstage to perform Oasis hits "Rock 'N' Roll Star" and "Live Forever" in tribute, Brian May played Queen's "Love of My Life," and to close the show, the band invited drummers Travis Barker, Rufus Taylor, and Nandi Bushell to perform Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly," "Best of You," and "Times Like These."
My favorite Foo Fighters song…🎵

DeleteShane representou 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
ReplyDeleteFoi emocionante!!!
O Tributo que Taylor merecia!!!
🇧🇷🖤
...and the UNCLE OF THE YEAR award goes to Dave himself. Truly an amazing uncle to Shane, who honored his dad by making a statement. I'm glad Shane, who's only 16, got to play on one of the many kits his dad used. 🥁🥁
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/-3DyBTUfPsc Finally it’s here.
DeleteAs a dad, this broke me, what a little legend Shane is, tougher than most of us
ReplyDeleteNo joke, literally tears to my eyes. So special
DeleteCara... As lágrimas nos olhos foram inevitáveis! Que emoção!!!
ReplyDeleteQuer mais motivos pra eu gostar do Dave, Foo Fighters?!
🤘🏻👽

DeleteI can't hold back the tears - he gave us all of his emotion in that performance, my goodness. He did so well, I know his dad is proud x
ReplyDeleteI Did nothing but cry watching this!!
DeleteBalled like a baby watching him play. His heart was out and his Dad would be so proud of him. We are seeing a great drummer in the making.
ReplyDeleteI am crying so bad right now. The passion, the look of pride in his eyes, the sense of relief. Wow, speechless. Amazing. Great job, kid! Your dad is SOOOO proud of you!
ReplyDeleteThis man is amazing, in a tough spot myself so can only imagine how these people feel to be given a chance to help fix their situations, incredible keep doing what you do
ReplyDeleteEntregou a alma nessa performance. Eu senti daqui.
ReplyDeleteNever in my 72 years did a musical performance bring me to tears like that did. I can’t imagine the range of emotions that was happening in their hearts and minds as they played together. Dave is definitely one of our hero’s.
ReplyDeleteWow, he makes his father's expressions and everything while playing 🤘
ReplyDeleteFoo Fighters is one of those rock bands that deserves all the respect for each and every song they play. But this was an anthem and once in a lifetime moment for them. Have this kid inspired by the love of his family (both his father and the band) makes it one of the greatest moments in the history of rock!!! ALL THE LOVE TO THE ENTIRE FOO FIGHTERS FAMILY ❤❤❤❤❤❤
ReplyDeletehe drummed SO WELL TO THIS SONG. Well done. his father would be very proud.
ReplyDeleteThis song always hit me hard, and seeing Shane on drums was even stronger.
ReplyDeleteCannot watch this with dry eyes. The raw emotion and genuine talent, the love, the pride. Just a magical tribute that had to have been massively healing.
ReplyDelete5:20 I don think a drum solo could mean so much between two people. The look between Dave and Shane, carried more weight and legacy than I’ve ever seen on stage. Not only a proud moment from Dave, but an honorable way to recognize the legend we lost so soon. Brought a tear to my eye, and it’s things like this that solidify my love for the music community.
ReplyDeleteThat’s my favorite part of the video.
DeleteAt 5:15 did he lean over and kiss the snare that most likely was his dads ? ???
Deletei see what you mean. That just made this 20x better for me! Thank you!🙏
DeleteSo beautiful that the band wanted to share this moment with Shane. To show him what these special moments feel like, Infront of crowds sharing something really amazing.
ReplyDeleteMade your Dad Proud and made me cry!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a powerful moment. Just great stuff!
ReplyDeleteGave me chills, thank you
ReplyDeleteHe's got some talent, in fact, but i've seen Hundred Times better, and Hundred Times more energic and complex beats in the drums from Kiss half his age, so....
ReplyDeleteNothing really interesting.
If he keeps doing, maybe in the future he'll get there.
But not convinced me, sorry.
you are missing the point that he is just playing to honor the memory of his deceased dad
DeleteI bet you're fun at parties.
Delete🤦♂️
Deletehe’s also grieving pretty intensely, I am sure, so being able to perform that well in front of so many people during such an intense time was pretty amazing to watch.

DeleteI have watched it 6 times and it still gets me. It's the kids intesity. Talk about one hell of a send of to a father
ReplyDeleteMagic on stage! 👍
ReplyDeleteWaauuu 🥰
ReplyDeleteYES !!!!
ReplyDeleteBjörn Huiskamp Klinkt best goed.
ReplyDeleteBrought me to tears, he was amazing! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI can’t stop watching this.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't bring a tear to your eye nothing will. Fine job Shane!
ReplyDeleteBawled my eyes out.
DeleteImpossivel nao se emocionar com essa apresentaçao. Dave grohl is a legend. Perdeu o kurt agr o taylor. Q deus conforte a familia do taylor era foda demais na batera e agr tem o shane. Q som foda
ReplyDeleteThis performance brought tears to my eyes. Shane, you blew the lid off! This was such a moving tribute to your dad.
ReplyDeleteEsa energia, esa potencia, los gestos... Estes donde estes Taylor, que tu alma se sienta orgullosa de tu niño.
ReplyDeleteShane te deseo una muy larga y brillante carrera musical.
Same chaotic energy as his dad.
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps and tears.
Fly high, Hawkins!!
Essa apresentação do filho de Taylor foi aplaudido pelo mundo e pelo seu pai, pode ter certeza, momento épico do mundo rock voa garoto !!!!🤟😎
ReplyDeleteHe’s absolutely incredible. Just like his dad! He should be their new drummer!
ReplyDeleteI feel every beat of the drum, Shane. Sending those hits to our father, our "MY HERO". RIP to our dads, watching us above
ReplyDeletePhenomenal job Shane concerning the circumstances. Your Dad is so proud.
ReplyDeleteBrutal, su padre estará muy orgulloso. Si no te emociona esto no eres humano.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P Taylor Hawkins, he was one of the greatest drummers I’ve ever heard
ReplyDeleteHe let his emotions out in the best way he could, playing the drums really dang well.
ReplyDeleteAll the rage, the desperation and frustration, all those feelings he has been feeling were pour in this song, those are the eyes of someone that lost someone important for him
ReplyDeleteThe absolute best to Shane; stay strong, embrace your talents and channel your emotions into greatness. ❤️ 🕊
ReplyDeleteHe put all his energy and heart into it. You can see it before the ending drum solo. Like he was reaching deep, exhaling his breath and inhaling his Father's.
ReplyDelete“Breathe out so I can breathe you in. Hold you in.” Everlong……says it all I believe. ❤️
DeleteYou can see the love, pride and respect from every band member.
ReplyDeleteOMG that touched this mama's heart. He wore every bit of the pain and joy he was feeling on his face as he paid tribute, and he poured it into his performance. He totally channelled his Dad.
ReplyDeleteThat young guy is really pouring all his heart and soul, his love and sorrow and every ounce of strenght he has into every beat of the sticks in tribute to his hero. To do him proud. He made everyone in that band proud that day.
ReplyDeleteAlso i didn't know MTV still dabbles in actual music. Thought they stopped that 20 years ago.
One of the most extraordinary moments I've ever seen on a stage. Tears...
ReplyDeleteI lost my dad nearly 10 years ago and I have always equated this song to him. And there's just something so viscerally emotional hearing it in this context now. Shane nailed it, 100% hits me in the gut every single time.
ReplyDeleteDam this made me tear up! I’m dealing with cancer and it’s beautiful to understand our soul lives on through our children just like this little guy who just tore it up… nice!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get better, just went thru it as well, Taylor lives on thru his son just like John Bonham does thru Jason and we are the lucky ones, Cancer sucks.
ReplyDeleteThis might just be the greatest live performance I’ve seen in years. Such a beautiful tribute.
ReplyDeleteI’m unimaginably proud of this young guy I’ve never met so I can’t even comprehend how proud Taylor would be. An absolutely amazing, generational, timeless performance. The coolest person in the world for those six minutes and maybe every minute after too.
ReplyDeleteI've watched this over 10 times and it NEVER gets old, only better! RIP Taylor Hawkins, your son is carrying on your legacy.
ReplyDeleteEstou presa nesse vídeo. A mesma energia do Taylor, foi de arrepiar. Emocionante mesmo.
ReplyDeleteThe drum solo at the end with Shane and Dave looking into each other’s eyes is a core moment above all other core moments. Gives me chills
ReplyDeleteMan I cried! Shane played with the fury and passion of his dad. This is just so poetic that he is playing this song…. There goes my hero, watch him as he goes….
ReplyDeleteWhen Dave smiles during the solo at the end, that hit me on a different level. Foo Fighters have their new drummer
ReplyDeleteThat was the only time he smiled during that tribute they said
DeleteI doubt he’s their new drummer, but he did a faultless job.
DeleteWhat a flawless performance . Can’t believe he’s only 16. So much talent already, takes after hai father. Your gona be a star!
ReplyDeleteThis gave me waves and waves of chills. My dad passed away last year and I wish I could honor him like this.
ReplyDeleteThe passion in Shane’s drumming.. speechless. His father would be so so proud ❤️
ReplyDeleteI absolutely could watch this a million times! I’m not crying…you’re crying!!! Best thing I’ve ever seen!💔
ReplyDeleteThat young man was able to show his respect, his talent and his love for his late father and a band that was like family. Those beats on that drum set up, was beats from his heart! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI'm not crying, you are. Okay, I'm crying. We're all crying. Love helps us to go on. Shane is the proof of that fact. I hope Shane, his family and friends always feel the enormous amount of love that surrounds them.
ReplyDeleteShane! You blew the roof off! We're all so damn proud of you, you beautiful boy! 💥 💪✌❤🙋♀️
Possibly the most emotional song of this century. Dave G. is the Best Human ever. Jr was so passionate.
ReplyDeleteDa uma emoção inexplicável vendo esse show, Taylor com certeza tá orgulhoso demais ❤️💫
ReplyDeleteThere’s something so special and emotional about that performance. It’s as if the kid is really saying, “this is for you Dad”.
ReplyDeleteRIP to those drum heads. Shane Hawkins beat the living crap out of it. Sounded amazing. Definitely the old man is looking down with all smiles.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible healing moment. Before this, Dave and the rest of the Foo Fighters were going through the motions, playing without their guy behind them. You can start seeing them letting go during this performance and begin to have fun with music again. Look at their faces at the end - all smiles. It won't ever be the same, but I think this did a lot for moving forward and that they can have fun again.
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks for Shane. Way too young to lose a Father so suddenly. He’s such a great drummer! Taylor obviously helped instil a passion for drumming like a bad ass! Much love to all who are heartbroken from the untimely loss of Taylor ❤️
ReplyDeleteOne of the most touching and moving moments I've ever seen in my life.
ReplyDeleteThis sent me to absolute tears. What a legend his dad was. What a legend the boy will become.
R.I.P Taylor.
ReplyDeleteThe kid celebrated his dad's life like he would've wanted it. Great show. Cried throughout. Such raw emotions.
ReplyDeleteI just lost my dad a couple of months ago. I feel this kid’s pain, and he played so well. An amazing tribute.
ReplyDeleteWhen music history is being written this is one of those moments that will be in it. So much emotion. I felt every beat. It is so hard not to cry
ReplyDeleteEnquanto estivermos aqui, homenageando os gigantes, o rock nunca morrerá
ReplyDeleteI can imagine this being a great source of therapy for him, he can take his pain out on his skins while also being connected to his dad because that’s who taught him. Inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time, no kid should go though that. But I think if the Foo Fighters ever decide to get another drummer, it should be Shane if he wants to do it. It just seems… correct? I dunno, I just think nobody else in the world could fill Taylor’s position except him.
ReplyDeleteI cannot stop watching this video. It’s the fact that it’s this song and for many, our fathers are our heroes. The kid was just unreal, Raw emotion. Goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteKid does the rhythms like his father. Foo Fighters' music is secured.
ReplyDeleteYou can feel the emotion coming from every pore of this young man's body. He put everything into this performance. Rock on, dude! 🤘
ReplyDeleteI’ve watched this so many times and can’t not have so many emotions, Shane is going to be a future monster in his own right and I can’t wait to see whatever path he goes down.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone ever asks me what playing with your heart looks like, I'm going to show them this video.
ReplyDelete
