Twitter is blocking third-party clients like Tweetbot and Twitterrific

Well, I hope you don't want to use just about any major third-party clients on Twitter, because Elon Musk appears to have blocked them from accessing Twitter's API for some reason. According to internal Slack messages viewed by The Information, the social media platform intentionally suspended those third-party apps. In one post, a senior software engineer literally says: "Third-party app suspensions are intentional."

The third-party Twitter clients have been broken since at least Thursday evening, and developers say they still don't have any kind of update, according to the Verge. Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable.

Since Thursday evening, users have been complaining that they couldn't use Tweetbot, Twitterrific, and other apps you can use to scroll through Twitter without going directly through Twitter's software.

"And I really want an official public statement," Tweetbot co-creator Paul Haddad said in a Mastodon post on Sunday. "We have a large number of sub. renewals for year 3 of Tweetbot coming up in a couple of weeks. If we're permanently cut off I need to know so we can remove the app from sale and prevent those. Which obviously I'd rather not do."

On Sunday Twitterrific tweeted: "There’s still no official word about what’s going on. We apologize for the ongoing interruption."

But, as with anything Musk is doing at Twitter, it isn't particularly thorough. Some apps — like Albatross and Fenix — still work for some people while others don't, depending on if you're using it on iOS or Android, the Verge reported. It's all, unsurprisingly, messy.

  1. Elon Musk and “well thought out” are kind of oxymorons. 😆😆

    1. elon's IQ places him above the top 1% of the world.

Perhaps what isn't well thought is your comment....

    2. We all know who Elon Musk is, how wealthy he is, and what he's accomplished, despite your judgments otherwise.

Only a tiny few know or care who you are, so when more serious thought is given, your post is comical, and so are you!

I don't take myself nearly as seriously as you take yourself in believing I can judge just how many "well thought out" things come from the mind of someone that has (even if not long-term) managed to become the richest human on earth that wasn't by being born a king or something like that.

Sure, he's not the richest at the moment for net worth, but he's perfectly capable of regaining that spot. A huge part of his net worth comes from stock which only has a useful cash value at the time it is sold: if you don't cash it out at a low cash price, it still is useful as ownership of the company.

Go ahead and laugh all you want, I expect you'll call me names, because you've already done that to someone you can't possibly know in any meaningful way.

    5. half the stuff written about Elon is false. Like who goes around sharing their IQ test score anyway? You must think he's playing 4D chess?

      Delete
    6. ummm what names did she call Elon exactly there now bud?

      Delete
    7. i think 150+ IQ equals 4D chess much more than some idiot who just happens to manage multiple cutting edge technologies.

But hey dude, Think he's a potato, Idc.

You must think being successful means you never failed or never made a mistake....only a fool believes the most successful of us got there without anything negative to see and focus on if you want.

      Delete
    8. you still haven't figured out that reports of his IQ are fake?

      Delete
    9. whatever you say. But see...Ive listened to him speak. Ive Seen what he says and how he says it. Ive Seen what he runs and how he runs it. Ive seen How he's built things and What those things are and represent. Choosing to surround himself with people who innovate or leave. People who are determined. Then there is actual outcome. Leading brand in EV cars, cutting edge space exploration and rocket tech. Working and creating nueralink which has the potential to possibly restore paralysis, vision, hearing, and beyond. Direct personal sacrifice for principal... which btw led to the highest paid taxes for an individual ever (taxes help right?).

Every indicator of any value is that yes, in fact, he is highly intelligent.

You probably want it to be fake...So its easier to digest that work and brains lead to big things.

    10. or maybe he disagrees with something you believe and therefore he must be stupid or else you would be....

      🤷‍♂️

    11. well I mean he didn't found or invent Tesla he essentially stole the glory from the co founders by pushing them out and claiming he founded it. Oh and the hyper loop tech he invented is like 200 years old and didn't work then.

      Delete
    12. tesla also didn't even produce a vehicle until a year after musk was CEO.

Hyperlink was an exploration in helping transportation and commute. Do I care about who created it 200 years ago or who is trying to apply it for the greater good?

And idc if things he tries fail. Anyone who has ever tried anything and achieved success knows its paved in failure and lessons learned.

    13. that all depends on your view of why he bought Twitter. If you think he bought Twitter to make money, you would be wrong. He bought Twitter to expose a government propaganda machine and end the CIA Psyops on the American people.

Over the last year you have been taught to hate Elon Musk. That is proof enough of the government's ability to manipulate the masses. Now if you want to try and tell me that you always hated Elon Musk, then you are fan of the big government Psyops. That makes you one of the MARXISTS trying to control us.

    14. true you have to try and fail but he also says stupid stuff. I can give credit where credit is due but his largest talent is being a hype man for himself. I mean one if his early claims to fame is founder if PayPal when that is a stretch at best and he was actually fired from the company for his poor performance.

      Delete
    15. I'm not sure it was poor performance...he merged with a competitor who behind his back issued votes of no confidence to take over...

And all of this was before it was ever named PayPal.

    16. he insisted it be called x.com... think about that x.com for a payment service.

    17. IQ tests only really measure how well an individual takes an IQ test and little more. IQ tests have the potential to inaccurately measure an individual's intelligence and cause problems including low confidence, unrealistic expectations, and just a generally flawed understanding of a person's potential.

    18. ok....thats why I included the rest of my observations on him and his life which all point to intelligence.

  8. This means other clients that are currently working could also be blocked. So no use buying something that could work. Sadly Twitter is dying a slow death.

    9. It should be illegal to just change these things without notification or justification. There are businesses built around this API and I assume they always followed the terms of use.
