Google I/O 2023: New Gmail AI feature will soon write entire emails for you. How it works. | Mashable.
Gmail's new AI feature will soon write entire emails for you, Google announces
Gmail will soon have a feature that will write entire emails for you using AI, Google announced on Wednesday at its Google I/O event.
The feature, dubbed "help me write," is basically an expansion of the auto-replies and generative text that Google already uses in Gmail. While announcing the feature, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, used an example of asking an airline for a refund for a flight. The AI feature pulls info from previous exchanges with the airline and creates an entire message asking for the refund. You can then edit that message to your liking and send it away.
The idea behind the feature is to save folks time on relatively mindless emails. Anything that can help me clear inboxes is likely welcome help to people everywhere.
More in Google
I hate this. We've already become so disconnected.
ReplyDelete“Listen, let my AI talk to your AI and they’ll work something out.”
ReplyDeleteexactly what i wanted to comment xD ai will write a long email, other ai will summarize it for you, so we can all avoid writing a short one getting straight to the point instead lol
Deleteexactly what i been doing for a ya. Email bot against hundreds of scammer email bots lol
DeleteHonestly I welcome it to some extent. Professional emails I don't really care about so they can take those over, but my PERSONAL responses usually sound like how I talk so I'll take those myself.
ReplyDeleteNever mind that almost everywhere I've worked that's enterprise uses outlook so this is a bit useless. Google has too many security risks for them and a lot of companies don't trust AI to not spy on them.
DeleteThis AI learns your writing style and adapts to it.
DeleteYou do know that Microsoft (owner of Outlook) is the one who owns ChatGPT, and they're working on the same kinds of integrations.
Deletethey haven’t integrated Chat GPT into outlook. And many many companies are blocking ChatGPT due to prompt injection risks and their own staff putting code into it. It has nothing to do with who owns it and Microsoft only put a majority stake into it as far as I’ve read the company itself still has majority control through its non prof. Microsoft is using it to work with their search. Adding to corporate email systems is a different ask all together.
DeleteI think I would need to see the proof in the pudding on this.
ReplyDeleteLet robot chat each other 😜
ReplyDelete😆
DeleteAI will start composing ig stories for u.....inclusive of your notti pics 😜
ReplyDeleteThink what the reply will be when you email your boss for an increase.
ReplyDeleteIf he can read and answer to them… so we don’t need to 😀
ReplyDeleteso why need workers in the office🤷🏼♂️
Deleteluckily there are person in office with a work that is much more than answering to idiotic mails
Deletebut a lot of probably unnecessary people in the office and workplaces . Well AI will wipe a large amount of people in next 10 years weather we like it or not . Welcome to the future.
Deletethey said same about computers and industrial machines/robots
Deleteuh alittle different?! Dude expand your mind ! It’s already begun people exploiting and it being used in companies now . Wakey wakey !🙄😂
Deletewe should just have AI do everything and we can finally just go on a life long vacation.
DeleteWhats new?
ReplyDeletebut can it write elaborate gremlin poems?!
ReplyDeleteChallenge accepted! Haha
DeleteNo thanx😂
ReplyDeleteWhy? I want to write my own correspondence. This AI stuff (most of which is hype and propaganda) is too much. Is this the future--where we don't create, don't write, don't communicate? Where we sit back and do nothing? I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteLater. 👋

bye!
Deletewhat you do with your time is up to you. If you want to do nothing then that's your choice. I'm going on vacation though.
DeleteOh good. I can send emails, I'm not writing, to people who probably aren't reading them!
ReplyDeleteStep 3: profit.
I remember facebook shutting down their AI programs when it started to do encrypted conversations.
ReplyDeleteWill hopefully make a lot more sense than a lot of work emails I get 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteJust code as json to get the info expressed in an unambiguous way. No language model needed.
ReplyDeleteSo don't actually communicate with each other. Gotcha.
ReplyDeleteCould be an epic time saver for those who get lots of emails to reply to I guess
ReplyDeleteDouble edged sword. As it becomes a norm, you'll be expected to use it and perform the work of several more employees.
ReplyDeleteIs it easier to prompt and then edit or just write a freaking email?! How many “impersonal” emails are we sending? 98% of my emails are to clients and friends. I wouldn’t insult or waste the time of either by being too lazy to do it myself and say what I want/need to say.
ReplyDeleteIn future it will respond as well on recipient's behalf...
ReplyDelete"Let me just check my... why do I have 5,468,667 emails of AIs just thanking another AI for thanking them???"
ReplyDeleteAre we well on the way to becoming the Eloi?
ReplyDeletein the future, humans will be obsolete and useless because AI does everything...
ReplyDeleteGrammarly gave them a run for their money
ReplyDeleteIt’s doubtful any such email could be accepted as evidence in court or considered an official document.
ReplyDeleteSoon it will be bots mailing with bots, wonder what they will come up with with no human involved 🙂
ReplyDeleteAs if spell check was not bad enough!
ReplyDelete😆
Deletesoon AI will be talking to AI via emails and we’ll be sipping coffee and taking naps all day !
ReplyDelete👍
Delete😆
DeleteThis was how Skynet happenned. She got feed up Will all the emails and notifications she had to respond…
ReplyDeleteGmails predictive text is poor at the best of times, even for short sentences, not sure I believe that it can write a whole email
ReplyDeletepredictive text is not AI 🤣
DeleteBut do you really want it to?
ReplyDeletePlease no. I need less email in my life, not more.
ReplyDeletePlease somebody write “Skynet”. Today any little AI thing is called like that by many even if it doesn’t have access to weapons or anything.
ReplyDeleteAI taking over the world gradually, next generation will be full of lazy duds
ReplyDeleteGood god this will be awesome.. 😆
ReplyDeleteNot for meeee!
ReplyDelete👍
DeleteHi al my name's al, um i noticed some spelling mistakes in your email. Mind taking a second look before hitting send?
ReplyDelete🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sender: "compose a polite lengthy email covering these bullet points"
ReplyDeleteRecipient: "boil this lengthy email down to some essential bullet points"
Progress
They have good gpt email extensions on chrome already
ReplyDeleteI cant wait for mgmt/supervisors to be fired and replaced with ai.
ReplyDeleteGoogle will let AI write emails for you, but don’t your dare use AI to create content.
ReplyDeleteHope AI will reply the email too automatically lol
ReplyDeleteHumans, take back your power!
ReplyDelete🤦♀️
ReplyDeleteNope
Delete🤦♂️
ReplyDelete❤️
ReplyDeleteSouth Park already nailed this idea to the wall.
ReplyDeleteVery soon, their plan will be complete

I have always been terrified of a Wall-e like future!
DeleteEXACTLY!!!
DeleteSpeaking of AI, if GMail AI works like Tesla Full Self-driving, i will lose my friends and my job in few emails...
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how even more lazy the future is about to become.
ReplyDeleteJust sad!
ReplyDeleteHi edge.

ReplyDeleteMillions of people are using various ways to make money, and one of the most promising is using Meta for Business! Things changed tremendously when I started believing in the brand of Meta and surrendering to my desire to have my own Meta Quest 2! https://www.meta.com/quest/products/quest-2/
ReplyDeleteWake me up when it tells me this meeting will not be a good use of your time
ReplyDeleteToh main kya Karu. Job chod du
ReplyDelete... and it will live your life for you? No thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo bye bye office workers ?!🤷🏼♂️

Or we just pay Google ample hack load from Uganda and Florida for using thousands and thousands of false aliases as they normally do.

ReplyDeleteDarn. Eventually, we're going to actually have to meet in person. The horror! /sarcasm
ReplyDeletemaking the world more stupid by the day.
ReplyDeletewill it live my life for me ?
ReplyDeleteUntil someone says that is not what I meant
ReplyDeleteHello Elon Musk here ❤️🚀
DeleteElon Musk sure…
Deletehow are you and the family?
DeleteCant wait 👍
ReplyDeleteNaku good bye na Kay Ghostwriter
ReplyDeleteIt used to be about working smarter, not harder. It now appears we’ve landed in can’t be ‘rsed just get a bot to do it.
ReplyDeleteIt’s bad enough we don’t actually talk to each other without having our faces on our phones, we’ve got to the stage we don’t even need to speak to each other, we can just pretend
"Google, write harassing emails to Donald Trump. Don't stop until I say." 😛
ReplyDeleteThe AI writes a large email, and then on the other end, the AI is going to sum it up. Would not be better to write a short email from the beginning?
ReplyDeletefor people to feel comfortable with it it’s prob gonna start out like that so if you wanna read the actual email in detail you can. However as we prioritize faster data processing I’m sure it will just be a summed up key points to make the test more efficient
DeleteGoogle jumps the gun with auto fill in my searches now. It writes stuff that I absolutely did not intend to.
ReplyDelete"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." I'm not sure I'd trust AI to respond to supervisor emails lol.
ReplyDeleteAnd soon you wont have a job
ReplyDeletesad but true
DeleteAnd goodbye to literacy, slowly but surely.
ReplyDeleteGoogle AI will soon take over your job?
ReplyDeleteImagining a group email chain consisting entirely of like 5 people letting the AI take over and the whole thread is just nonsense but one guy Greg is reading everything not realizing what's going on and taking all sorts of detrimental actions that will destroy the company
ReplyDeleteThis sounds plausible!
Deletelol it's suspiciously specific
DeleteJust combine this function with auto-reply, boss-tone preference learning and neuralink meetings. Companies could run themselves!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if promise or threat. 🧐
While I have my ability to think I do not need A1Thank you, the day that happens I shall exterminate my phone it is bad enough when trying to text it keeps adding words that makes no sense
ReplyDeleteHello Elon Musk here ❤️🚀
DeletePhishing emails about to get a lot more difficult to spot.
ReplyDeletenot true, the text tends to be obvious as well but there are many ways to identify that besides the context of the email
Deletethey’re bound to take advantage of these tools and there will be in increase in their success because of it even though there are other ways to spot them.
DeleteYet they still can't fix threading.
ReplyDeletehope an AI will also read those mails for me ...
ReplyDeleteAnd then the same AI sends back an email to my AI and so on so forth. Hope they make the right decisions while I am sipping my cappucino 😉
ReplyDeleteCan they earn money for me.
ReplyDelete....and will read them too. And auto-reply too
ReplyDeleteThink ....
Goodbye to all the GPT browser extensions.
ReplyDeleteGmail AI composes an email. Then the recipient has gmail AI reply.
ReplyDeletePlease do it. Not only write emails but send it, and do follow ups, and no need to bother me. Let me relax and chill.
ReplyDeleteso abnormal. Those that stick with their personal way of conducting business and communication with their clients will continue to thrive. Like anything generic or fake most are not accepting of it and can detect it. IE- the images created using AI. Most are completely pointless and created by people with time on their hands. Definitely not art as well. As humans we have the right to decide if we let AI influence our personal or business lives. Generic is always going to be that....generic!!! Humans want to deal with humans.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteMore time to play harder longer.

ReplyDeleteYay an illiterate generation coming! Generation Duh.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Dumbing down of society leads to reliance and control.
DeleteAnd they accused tik tik of spying. Lol
ReplyDeleteI already had to turn of their "smart" replies because they were wildly off target. I can't imagine how wrong a full response will be. Can it take the office politics into account? Change from casual to formal construction depending on who the recipient is?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like more work than writing a few sentences on your own
ReplyDelete
