NASA rover just found evidence of a once roaring river on Mars

This Martian river was no joke.

NASA's car-sized Perseverance rover parachuted down to a region of Mars called the Jezero Crater, a place planetary scientists suspect once teemed with water. Now, two years later, the space agency's scientists may have spotted evidence of a once "rollicking river."

The telltale formation, shown in the image below, shows curving rocks — which indicates past vigorous water flow — made of larger, coarse sediments.

"Those indicate a high-energy river that’s truckin’ and carrying a lot of debris. The more powerful the flow of water, the more easily it’s able to move larger pieces of material," Libby Ives, a researcher at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a statement(opens in a new tab). "It’s been a delight to look at rocks on another planet and see processes that are so familiar," Ives added.

Scientists previously saw these curved shapes from space. The six-wheeled Perseverance rover — a laser-zapping laboratory on wheels — allowed them to look much closer.

The mosaic picture shows a Martian area composed of 203 images joined together. The curves might be from a shifting river bank, or perhaps sandbars whittled down by billions of years of wind-driven sand-blasting. A question that looms large is what this powerful waterway was like back when Mars was a warmer, bluer planet.

"Scientists are now debating what kind of powerfully flowing water formed those curves: a river like the Mississippi, which winds snakelike across the landscape, or a braided river like Nebraska’s Platte, which forms small islands of sediment called sandbars," NASA wrote.

Generally, there's clear evidence, etched into the Mars desert, of a past, water-rich world. This includes dried-up lakes(opens in a new tab)dried streams, and even ancient waves.

Yet there remains zero evidence of Martian life. Indeed, NASA's rovers have detected organic materials on Mars, which essentially means molecules like carbon that can compose life as we know it, but there's nothing suggesting primitive microbes ever lived on the surface (though the subsurface remains unexplored).

A primary mission of the Perseverance rover is to seek out hints of life, if it ever existed, however difficult the task might be. A good place to look is in an area that once harbored water — and perhaps a deep, vigorous river.

  1. The disappearance of ALL the water must have been catastrophically fast as the banks show little erosion or mineral deposits. So what happened to the water and air? Even if the water and air were ripped away by some near collision of a stronger gravity body there would be directional evidence.

On Mars if is possible the planet essentially died at an early stage of the planet, no way to know yet. Then consider the very aggressive anf abrasive particle storms on the surface. Now how many billions of years of that activity. The trace evidence will differ from a young living, active, bio habitat ….

    7. If water existed, we can find out what happened and if it is possible to restore it. It also means other life forms existed, meaning the planet can support new life forms. I am sure you know that most living creatures are made of water. E.g 70 percent of the human body is water.

  31. In the biblical context, the Bible says the sons of god came down to earth to make children with humans. Now, god explicitly says he was destroying the earth in our flood because of the sin of these fallen angels of beings (never actually called angels) but I have this theory that they could travel in space and take physical forms then they could have a place of origin…. What if MARS was full of life like earth 6 thousands years ago but because of these beings from space that god destroyed, the world they might have had on mars was also destroyed too. And that’s why they don’t come back. Same with Venus. But the folklore of their existence plays into modern understanding of ancient religion. This means maybe it’s possible to find fossils deeper inside Martian rock layers? Hmmmm 🤨

    1. just thought of this, but on the pregenesis theory. It is said there is a big period between genesis1:1 and genesis 1:2. Something must have made the earth empty and void, the God had to restore it in verse 2.

  38. They bluffing. It is impossible to send anything to mars simply due to the fact that they do not know the distance to it. The same goes for the moon. There is no viable mathematics to figure out the distance to these things, thus no trip. Parallex trig can only work if values are known.

ANYBODY with a few hundred dollars in equipment and some basic instructions easily found on the internet can aim a laser at the mirror and time how long the light takes to bounce back to you. Point it anywhere else on the moon and you get nothing.

Please explain to me how that would be possible without the mirror being placed there by man.

I'm really looking forward to your response.
