Ford's electric F-150 Lightning has just become a lot cheaper

Savings go as high as $10,000.

Ford's popular electric pickup truck, the Ford F-150 Lightning, is now more affordable.

The company reduced the prices on all configuration of the F-150 Lightning, including the baseline Pro model, which now costs $49,995, down $9,979 from its price just days ago.

Other configurations are also significantly cheaper, including the XLT, which starts at $54,995, the Lariat, which starts at $69,995, and the top-of-the-range Platinum, which now starts at $91,995.

While this is good news for potential buyers, it's worth noting that the prices are still higher than what they were at launch in May 2021; the F-150 Lightning originally started at $39,974.

Like many other manufacturers, including Tesla, Ford kept hiking the prices of its EVs throughout 2021 and 2022 as it battled through supply chain issues. Now, however, the company says the greater capacity at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center factory, as well as lower raw material costs, are among the factors that enabled it to reduce the price of the truck. Upcoming competition, including from Tesla's Cybertruck which just went into production, is probably another reason why Ford is making its electric pickup more affordable.

“We’ve continued to work in the background to improve accessibility and affordability to help to lower prices for our customers and shorten the wait times for their new F-150 Lightning," Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer for Ford, said in a statement.

Ford also pointed out that early next year, all F-150 Lightning owners will be able to charge at Tesla's Supercharger locations in the U.S. and Canada.

    8. we are not comparing base reg cab 2 wheel drive and no power windows😂😂 the comparison is normal customer retail price with top trim package ... raptor , Bauer , platinum . The only reason you did that is because you can’t get around the fact they are virtually the same up front but gas and diesel will continue to cost far more to operate and maintain. You can’t hold your own in this discussion. Only an idiot would want to continue to spend that much money on fuel. Wait til gas goes up to $6 a gallon and stays put and EPA puts an environmental fee of another $2 a gallon and federal , state and local tax fee of 10% for ownership of that ICE vehicle annually 😂😂

    10. wait till electric costs and road maintenance fees get tacked on to them. And when those subsidies end. Only an idiot would spend that much for electric vehicles that battery degrades over time.

    11. environmental fee for batteries would also be initiated since they are toxic to produce and environmental impact of mining. Can tell you don't work in the automotive industry.

    12. they won’t... and that is another dumb F’ing conspiracy theory from low IQ gas hole lickers. Battery is half of what you will spend in 8 years on fuel with a 20 year warranty 😂😂😂💩🧠 you lose again!!!

  12. Cheaper? Different slogan

  13. With Tesla, there is irritation to see that the car you paid $45,000 for is now priced at $40,000. But you have your car and new buyers are happy with this.

If a person considers a Ford Lightning and the price goes from $40,000 - $50,000 and then $60,000, and then back to $50,000, what is the potential buyer thinking? Are they saying, "eff this." The difference in price is nearly that of a Ford Maverick (from lowest to highest).

In business there is a thing called, 'Goodwill.' It is actually measurable. Ford is most certainly not generating goodwill.

  14. Fords response is almost comical. The news last week was EVs are piling up on dealer lots - specifically ford lots. Of course when ford jacked the price up (cant even remember how many times) people said forget it. Why pay double to triple what a gas vehicle costs. Its not worth it. Now the initial glut of people needing to be the first to own one has worn off and ford priced themselves right out of the market.

    1. I agree...Ford is complaining about dealer markups hurting the brand, but Ford also hurt their brand too with these massive price increases. Where I will differ is that ICE pickups cost pretty much the same...build out any F150 on the Ford site and you'll quickly be up in the $70k range without breaking a sweat.

  15. Ford keeps making one strategic blunder after another. They launched the F-150 Lightning with an unrealistic, lowball price; didn't have the production capacity to meet demand; jacked up prices so much they killed the demand entirely; and now are trying to do damage control. The message to their customers is: We probably won't have what you want, and if we raise prices you should just walk away and wait until we panic and lower them again. Terrible all around.

    1. Spot on...some moderation would have really helped. There was no way they were going to make a profit on the truck at $40k and instead they just used it for free advertising and to drum up excitement, then when said excitement ensued, they lurched to crazy price increases. Bad look.

  16. I'm sure there's a floor for the F150 based on where the MachE sits, and the PHEV Escape.

Until Ford moves those prices, too.

  17. The alienation of the customer base is already done by how the launch was handled, IMO.

  18. The ridiculous price of EVs just reinforces the demand for less expensive ICEs, but EV pricing has helped push ICE prices up too. This helps but I'm afraid that manufacturers have way overestimated EV interest and now will be even less inclined to lower prices on ICEs - which are what most folks want and can barely afford. It's a mess that many saw coming.

  19. This makes the case harder and harder for me to ever want an EV anytime soon. The companies are playing games with us. The initial price hikes then suddenly it's massively discounted? What about people that bought yesterday? Or last week? What about the used market that sees lightnings going for 10s of thousands cheaper? It's a terrible time to buy this truck.

    1. Agree, and this pricing instability is something that annoys me about Tesla (plus the fact that the windshield wipers and other controls are all on the touch screen).

I think Ford got a bit greedy when the demand was super high on the Lightning model and wanted in on the gravy train that was dealer markups, and when they say demand drop precipitously as prices went up at the same time that interest rates did, they needed to correct. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more incentive spending on these either.

  20. This is a a fairly dramatic, in-your-face from Ford, essentially acknowledging that they jacked up prices during Covid just to profit.

But Ford isn't the only manufacturer that did this. And Ford isn't the only manufacturer cutting prices. Ford is just showy about it, like Tesla.

Car prices are falling, fairly steadily. Deflating back to a historic normal.

Economists tell you deflation is riskier than inflation. I get that. This shows why.

Anyway, Ford got greedy, engendered a lot of ill will, and now is copying Tesla to right the ship.

    No sympathy here.

  21. I was part of the original pre-order when they were talking about $40k trucks. Of course when it was my turn to order, that option was NEVER available and the cheapest they had was a $56k XLT without extended range battery that they quickly sold out on; and then they tried pushing me into a $75k lariat. Seriously left a bad taste after that experience.
