The long-awaited fight between influencer Jake Paul and legendary boxer Mike Tyson is over, and Paul has been declared the winner.

The Paul-Tyson fight

Paul won the fight via unanimous decision by the judges, CNN reported, with round scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of Paul. The New York Post called the fight a "snoozer," however, criticizing both streaming issues on Netflix (where the fight was shown live) and Tyson fighting despite being past his prime.

Multiple reports state that Netflix experienced problems during the live event, with watchers complaining of buffering issues and poor image quality.

On X, viewers also commented on Tyson's age, making jokes that 27-year-old Paul committed "elder abuse" against the 58-year-old, who hasn't been in the ring professionally in 19 years according to CNN:

How much did Jake Paul and Mike Tyson make from the fight?

According to both CBS News and USATodayTyson reportedly earned an estimated $20 million from the fight, while Paul reportedly earned double, $40 million. "I'm here to make $40 million and knock out a legend," he said at a press conference in August.

Despite pre-fight showboating, Paul seemed to be a gracious winner. "Mike Tyson, it's such an honor," he said after the fight. "He's the greatest to ever do it. He's the GOAT."

Despite the "underwhelming" fight, as The Athletic stated, Tyson hinted that he might fight Jake's younger brother Paul, who's currently 29.

    1. Not correct! I watched everything from the start, it startet to lag at the end of the woman’s fight. Then it stopped all together, and I did not get back in before after 1h had passed. So I sat up all night to se Tyson stumbling around in the ring, more busy getting mouth peace right than throwing punches. I did not expect to see the 20year old Tyson in the ring, but what he showed was not impressive even compare to his age.

      Delete
    2. that’s a ridiculous assessment. I as well as two of my friends tuned in at 8 and we all had buffering issues.

      Delete
    3. maybe your internet speed then? But Likely a bandwidth issue on Netflix’s part 🤷🏽‍♂️

    7. I had no issues with my phone

      Delete
    8. Not for me Dude. I cranked it up from 10 minutes before the event even started. as soon as they started to announce Tyson, that’s when my buffering started. Everything was perfect until the fight was underway. It lasted for a few minutes. I tricked it by jumping on my iPhone on LTE and it popped up. It was my ISP’s Internet is what I thought. As soon as it cleared up on TV, I jumped off my phone. That was the only trouble I had all night.

    9. I had one 30s buffering issue right as Paul entered the stadium. Started watching about 30 min into broadcast

    10. nope, I started before the first undercard and wasn't able to make it through either of the last two fights

      Delete
    11. nope, I tuned in when the thing started at 7pm. Was great throughout the first two fights. After that problems started. Buffering, error messages. It was a disaster on Netflix’s side.

  29. Not only during the fight but even after the right the video lags a lot

  30. Mike Tyson's legs weren't working well so he couldn't chase Jake Paul down. Jake Paul was able to stay out of his range for the most part.

    1. they say he threw 97 and landed 18 but I believe those numbers were inflated. There's no chance he threw 97 during that fight.

  55. If you watched the fight in slow motion, you see tyson about to punch paul when he had an opening. His fist moved then pulled back. He didn't want to knock paul out. The deal was to probably stay as long as you can in the ring. So tyson held back. He was biting his fist because a fighters instinct was to hit back when he saw the opening. The amount of times tyson bit his fist was when the amount of times he held back and was fighting his natural instinct

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. why would anyone watch that in slow motion?

      Delete
    2. biting his glove is to use his neck muscles to support the weight of his arm to prevent arm fatigue.

  56. Rue Paul vs Cicely Tyson would have been a better fight

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tyson did, cuz he walked away with 20 million. As far as in the ring, the 27 year old beat the 57 year old.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. but Paul walked away with $40 million, so I think that would make him the winner by your criterion.

      Delete
    2. He still has a career ahead of him with many opportunities. Tyson was over the hill 30 years ago. His decline was apparent back in the late 90s, and it was a sharp one.

      Delete
    3. Where did I say I disagree with your notion in the second comment? I didn’t. You claimed money made Tyson the winner, but since Paul got double it stands to reason by your first assertion that Paul one.

      Delete
    4. But you missed my point. If I was talking about who made more, then sure, Paul won. My comment wasn't based solely on who got the most money out of it. It's about someone who really didn't have any business getting into that ring to fight a guy that caliber in his prime to begin with, when it seems obvious to many that they both might have been holding back. That's a pretty big win and a pretty solid retirement when years of mismanagement of his career cost him to the point where he had just a tiny fraction of the wealth he should have had.

Paul still has his whole career ahead of him, and will probably make another 200M at least before it is all said and done.
