Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, raised another $6 billion in funding, TechCrunch reported via the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing reports that each investor, of nearly 100, had to give a minimum of $77,593. The investors were not named in the filing, but X wrote in a press release that key investors included "A16Z, Blackrock, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Kingdom Holdings, Lightspeed, MGX, Morgan Stanley, OIA, QIA, Sequoia Capital, Valor Equity Partners, and Vy Capital, amongst others."

"xAI’s most powerful model yet, Grok 3, is currently training and we are now focused on launching innovative new consumer and enterprise products that will leverage the power of Grok, Colossus, and X to transform the way we live, work, and play," the press release stated. "The funds from this financing round will be used to further accelerate our advanced infrastructure, ship groundbreaking products that will be used by billions of people, and accelerate the research and development of future technologies enabling the company’s mission to understand the true nature of the universe."

Tech Crunch reported that this doubles xAI's total raised funds and brings it to $12 billion. According to CNBC, xAI was aiming for a $50 billion valuation in November. Forbes reported on Monday that the valuation has reached over $40 billion since the $6 billion funding bump.

    5. fact check: without government subsidies, Musk would be broke and Teslas bankrupt. "“The foundation for Musk’s financial success has been the US government,” said Daniel Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities. ... virtually all of his net worth can be pinned to government help. Tesla and SpaceX got started – and survived their early days – with assistance from state and federal policies, government contracts and loans.......n January 2010, Tesla was starting out and had sold less than 2,000 cars in its history. Then the company received a $465 million low-interest loan from the Department of Energy, months before its initial public offering......................................As Tesla started to sell cars, a $7,500 tax credit for EV buyers allowed the company and other automakers to sell American-made EVs at a higher price than the market might‘ve allowed otherwise.

Tesla buyers received federal tax credits worth an estimated $3.4 billion before the perk disappeared entirely for Tesla buyers at the end of 2019.
But Tesla’s most significant financial support is not from tax credits for EV buyers. It comes from the sale of regulatory credits that other automakers buy to comply with state and federal regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gases.

The money doesn’t come from taxpayers. But without the government regulation, there would be no billions flowing into Tesla’s coffers, and straight to its billion lines.

Those credit sales literally kept Tesla’s lights on, and its paychecks being cashed, in the company’s early days. They accounted for nearly 25% of its revenue in 2008 and 10% of its revenue over the course of the next five years.

Between 2008 and 2019, sales of regulatory credits generated more than $2 billion for the company. Tesla has made $2.1 billion this year by selling regulatory credits to automakers that haven't hit emissions targets.
Credit sales account for 43% of the automaker's profit." That's all federal help; then there is California help: "
Tesla has received more than $3.2 billion worth of direct and indirect California subsidies and market mechanisms since 2009, " including the credits it sells. In gratitude, Musk moved his operations to Texas to avoid paying taxes in the state that saved his business from bankruptcy. He says he moved because of overregulation in California (they also want him to stop the racism in his Fremont factory) but it is precisely California regulations that created the credits it sells which were created for Tesla that saved the company from going under when it was making no profit but from the state-created credits. "Dan Sperling, a member of the Air Resources Board and founding director of the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies, said such credits were "the big kahuna" that helped Tesla overcome the steep entry barriers of launching a car company, especially one dependent on new technology.

" Tesla would have gone bankrupt and disappeared without California's ZEV mandate," he said."
