Reiner had a long career in Hollywood, starting as an actor before moving on to direct some of the best known films of all time. Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, Misery, This is Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men are among his many movies. His most recent was Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which came out earlier this year.

In the hours since his death, actors and politicians have taken to social media to share their tributes and memories of a Hollywood legend.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest released the following statement, per Variety:

“Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them. There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis. We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve.”

  14. It's a horrible and sad thing. Rob was by all accounts a good man, loved by those he worked with, and respected for who he was. Cary Elwes loves him dearly as did so many actors who worked with him. What a terrible hole in so many hearts for this loss. For both of them.

  21. On top of all this, my 104 year old grandpa, my mom’s dad and a shoah survivor passed away yesterday morning. Doing all the funeral arrangements and planning has been stressful enough without the tragedy of the last day. I am beyon drained. Baruch Hashem, he had an amazing, long beautiful life. He had a pretty severe cognitive decline after Covid, and I’m frankly grateful he wasn’t as aware of the horrors our people are enduring. Again.

The best I can do is make a beautiful playlist for his funeral to honor his memory. Which involves listening to a LOT of mournful Yiddish and Hebrew songs. Mourning upon mourning upon mourning. Will it ever stop? I fear it will only get worse. I worry for my husband who is a chazzan and his shul has big glass windows facing the street. I have nearly constant fear that someone will just shoot through the glass. Fuck. This is so fucking awful. I’m bereft of more eloquent words to describe it, I’m so exhausted.

  23. Fucking horrible! Can the parade of horrors just fucking STOP NOW please??

I was thinking of him and his father just yesterday, because of the Dick Van Dyke 100 birthday coverage.

May their memory be for a blessing

I can't believe it. This is devastating. He was so talented. I just love his movies!
My heart breaks for them and their family. I can't imagine what it was like for the daughter who found them. My heart goes out to her. What a tragedy...
And poor Mel Brooks. This sucks so bad.

  44. I just watched the tribute to Rob and Michele Reiner....
Rob was an internationally renowned director and actor. I have verry little knowledge on Michele in my life. I did learn she's a photographer of the dumpster's for the art of the steal book. Art of the Deal. It truly breaks my heart that this President would say they have TDS. Dump derangement syndrome. It's unspeakable. It's like shitting on 9/11 victims. Rob gave us so much movie culture. From The Princess Bride to A Few Good Men. Gramps is angry at the world and lashing out. This isn't healthy. I'm sad for us Americans. We're a melting pot that is being unstirred by an old bigot!

  45. The most horrible thing about this tragedy is that they were murdered. I've been watching since all in the family, and I'm kind of still in shock. But I just found out that the second most horrible thing about it is not really that truth social report from our malignant president. It's that Rob was working on his next project, which was going to show people what Trump was doing after Roy Cohn died but before he ran for the Republican nomination the first time, so 1986 to 2011. It was all going to be laid out before us, revealing how he wound his way to the presidency and why and how it is serving him, or serving other people who use him, more like. We all need to grieve because this is the saddest thing in the world. But I hope somebody picks up that project.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I found out about that project a few days ago when someone told me I must be MAGA because I didn't believe their conspiracy theory that the government had Rob and Michele killed because of it and framed the son.

      Delete
    2. You know, if Trump hadn’t posted those comments, I never would have even entertained a thought like that. However, it was such a strange response to an obvious tragedy that I can see where people might get those ideas.

      Delete
    4. Oh my God I never heard that theory. But yeah, I would need some evidence to go along with that. The Apprentice was shown in theaters and mostly people didn't even go. Nobody got stabbed.

    5. I don’t want to take it from Reiner when his body’s barely cold, but I hope someone finishes that project.

      Delete
    6. I'm guessing that it's what he would want.

    1. There will be tributes. People are taking their time to prepare stuff.

Unfortunately what Seth and Kimmel criticised really needed to be said. Can you imagine any other leader saying something like that? Absolutely no one. It needed to get out to everyone who had not heard it. So that they could learn from it and make better choices in the future.
