Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan thinks it's time for a woman to play the role
"Get out of the way, guys."
Pierce Brosnan, former James Bond, supports the idea of a woman playing the role.
The actor who played 007 in four films, from the iconic GoldenEye to Die Another Day, told The Hollywood Reporter that he's fully behind the idea of a woman playing James Bond.
"I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” he said.
The public discussion over a woman playing the role of Bond has been upped of late, after rumours that Lashana Lynch could take over the 007 title after the forthcoming 25th Bond film, No Time to Die.
Brosnan also acknowledged the #MeToo movement in particular, which, quite frankly, has put the James Bond franchise and both its titular character's attitude toward women, and the films' general representation of women, in a new awkward light. Brosnan told THR that the Bond franchise won't really be able to push this under the rug.
“Without question, yes... The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they'll have to address that,” he said.
Brosnan, however, told the publisher he thinks this unlikely with the current producers.
“I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis," he said. "I don't think that is going to happen under their watch."
It's a hard pill to swallow for Bond fans, rewatching the films in the #MeToo age and recognising the undeniable problems that go with the franchise — inappropriate workplace sexual innuendos, including those said by Brosnan's Bond, are just the tip of the iceberg. But if James Bond himself can see change afoot, perhaps so can the producers (and fans).
Mashable partner.
Too late,. Grace Jones would have been a beautiful J. Bond. Now, it's too late.
ReplyDeleteBro ur my fav bond ever , take ur dementia pills and rest
ReplyDeleteI eagerly wait to see one talk a villain to death!
ReplyDeleteOh Pierce you have a great sense of humor
ReplyDeleteYvonne Strahovski and Piper Perabo would make great candidates for the role if this ever happened.
ReplyDeleteSure! Why not.. hard to keep people interested in bond... especially after Daniel Craig opened his mouth... no interest in him in the role.
ReplyDeleteSophie Turner please!
ReplyDeleteSo Jamie Bond instead of James Bond ?
ReplyDeleteNo, no. Idris Elba please.
ReplyDeleteNo way. Please keep the originality intact. If you want a woman as a secret agent assassin create a new character for it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly they might as well. They’ve just about told every story they can with James Bond at this point so maybe it would breathe some new life into a tired formula.
ReplyDeleteCreate a new character
ReplyDeleteMy name is Bond Jennifer Bond!
ReplyDeleteMy Bad, I thought he did a good play that part?
ReplyDeleteMaybe a colored Bond first!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe make a Modesty Blaise movie? You know, promote characters that are already the right gender/race/sexuality for the part and not start a gender/race war every time a franchise goes stale, just for clicks?
ReplyDeleteSophie Turner would be an interesting choice. I think she could pull it off.
ReplyDeleteBig NO
ReplyDeleteBaby steps, try Bruce Jenner, first!🤪
ReplyDeleteJamie Bond 32D
ReplyDeleteMore like Jane Bond DD7
ReplyDeleteBut first, Henry Cavill.
ReplyDeleteFFS.. there is more than 1 person working for the Government - do a parallel film like the Bourne franchise... then the actress wont be under so much scrutiny to make a female Bond
ReplyDeleteHmm, I wonder what else they can do.
ReplyDelete- Queen Kong
- Goddesszilla
- G.I. Jane
- Robopolicewoman
- Mary Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
- Mad Maxine
- Teenage Mutant Feminist Turtles
- Reservoir B...(nevermind that one)
Yea because the all female Ghostbusters worked so good
ReplyDeleteToo much virtue signaling is hurting my brain.
ReplyDeleteJane Bond?
ReplyDeleteNo but a female baddie would be good x
ReplyDeleteJames would just be an awkward name for a woman so no
ReplyDeleteWell, if "James" was female...Why do these idiot actors think a gender swap in any way remains true to a character? At best it would be a gimmick, and a cheap draw. Why not just have someone WRITE a unique espionage persona FOR a female? Too difficult?
ReplyDeleteHahahaha
ReplyDeletewhy don't they make a 008 or something? why specifically 007? nor confident enough to break out?
ReplyDeleteJust create another one. You cant have a woman superman. Just create a supergirl or something. Those who initiate it is Idiocy at its best
ReplyDeleteJANE BOND, 007! Why not!
ReplyDeleteNo no please, after all the comments we a hould have a black person play Bond, lets just make it a black woman!
ReplyDeleteTrans, disabled, black Bond just to make ze more inclusive.
ReplyDeleteOnly cause you’re an old leather bag and can’t play the role anymore
ReplyDeleteYeah right, here's another spin on it, how about Bond could also be a trans ?
ReplyDeleteIt’s time to kill the franchise then
