Despite already making several rounds of extreme cuts, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has laid off even more employees this weekend.
Tech website The Information first reported the company had laid off at least 50 people Saturday. The cuts were reportedly across different departments, including ad tech and technical infrastructure teams that help keep the site up and running.
Zoë Schiffer, managing editor at Platformer, tweeted that they heard the cuts were "well above" 50 people and that the engineering team was hit by the layoffs. That's of particular concern, considering Twitter has been increasingly glitchy and unreliable while being run by the skeleton crew remaining after Musk's massive cuts.
Musk has laid off thousands of people since he paid $44 billion for Twitter. At least 70 percent of the previous staff is gone. The latest layoffs, The Information reported, are an apparent attempt to cuts costs amid a plunge in revenue under Musk's leadership.
It's been one cost-cutting measure after the next for Musk's Twitter. Mashable's Matt Binder wrote about how Twitter's slowly degrading performance under all the penny-pinching, including the sudden loss of internal tools like Slack, the messaging platform.
The latest layoffs happened unexpectedly on Saturday and are the fourth set of layoffs to happen since Musk took over in October last year. New York Times reporter Kate Conger tweeted that, "some Twitter engineers are being locked out of their work emails and laptops tonight" and pieced together that it was a layoff. Schiffer, from Platformer, tweeted that the layoffs were especially surprising because it included folks they described as "hardcore Musk loyalists."
Musk, meanwhile, kept shit-posting on Twitter as the layoffs went down. He retweeted a positive review of Woody Harrelson's anti-vax SNL monologue, quote-tweeted a Babylon Bee tweet, and posted dumb memes that looked like they were ripped from Facebook. Also whatever this is.
Just another chaotic day for Musk's Twitter.
Zuckerberg censored my comment on Musk purchasing Facebook. I even had a like that has disappeared. How blatant, how criminal, how wrong. This is why Elon Musk bought Twitter is to get rid of this kind of control.
ReplyDeletecool story but it's definitely fictional
Deletedementia posting.
DeleteIt happened buddy, or I would not have been so disappointed. I question your involvement. To down play my comment means you are paid to discredit people that are questioning the criminal act of censorship.
Delete"censorship?" you're still yapping away buddy.
DeleteWell Twitter still works which makes you wonder what all those people were doing
ReplyDeleteSo what you're saying is that the work those people did is surviving the times. And that's a bad thing how? Only one or two new features since Musk took over, but a lot of services Twitter relies on have fallen over during that time.
Deletebingo! They were just there to suppress free speech. Now that position is no longer necessary. Seems like they had quite a few people doing it. And the FBI funded it.
Deletenot sure what you mean by "twitter still works" because Twitter is in a full-on meltdown
DeleteDid the FBI also fund your tin hat or are you just on your way to Kansas?
Deletesorry calling us conspiracy theories no longer works when we have Elon, who is exposing the truth. Try again. https://nypost.com/.../fbi-reimbursed-twitter-for.../amp/
DeleteAnd the president pulling the strings of censorship. Don't forget that part.
DeleteDo you work at Twitter?
DeleteBeing from London, if you do work for Twitter, it won't be for long. Elon stopped paying rent on the Twitter buildings there and is being sued for back-owed rent.
DeleteI know people that do. Besides its basic social media platform features really. Nothing that deserves lauding.
DeleteSounds like you are making assumptions. Not necessarily a wrong assumption, but an assumption none-the-less.
DeleteBut since you know people there, giving you benefit of the doubt that you aren't assuming on the changes, what exactly did they change in the software stack?
look at the pro Ukraine, Pro Vax, anti Elon sheep who showed herself.
Deletestuff like this is why people can't take Americans seriously anymore.
DeleteI agree, but it’s happening all around the world
Deleteno, it isn't.
Deleteit's not happening in the States either. It's happening inside your head. I live in the UK, I just told you it isn't happening.
Delete"yet even more" ... hmmm ....
ReplyDeleteDear god!! A business owner that is running a business to be profitable…. What ever shall we do !
ReplyDeleteTwitter isn’t meant to be profitable. If it was, they would’ve charged people from the beginning.
Deletewhat do you mean it wasn’t meant to be profitable… people don’t start businesses with losing money in mind…it was just run by retards
Deletethat's what ad revenue is for.
DeleteIf they getting fired means they aint benefiting his company. No ones business to decide for him. After all he paid billions for it not you !
ReplyDeleteEveryone is Jealous of Elon Musk , he must be doing the right thing then
ReplyDeletejealous?! Uh no.

DeleteCould the glitches maybe be fixed by employing enough people to to the job instead ?
ReplyDeleteI still don't use Twitter but it seems to be working just fine
ReplyDeleteI use it now.
Deletewell it's lost almost 10% of users and a ton of advertising revenue.
DeleteLike every single company is doing lol
ReplyDeleteMay be it's an open AI suggestion haha
ReplyDeletea freak 😜 and an attention seeker, boring 😴
ReplyDeleteF!re the woke

ReplyDeleteMust be a lot of useless people not doing anything to warrant staying employed.
ReplyDeleteHe's such a train wreck. LOL
ReplyDeleteBest thing he can do to cause the company to survive- payroll is the biggest debt any company can have.

ReplyDeleteLove your job not your company. That's because no one knows when your company stops loving you.

Elon knows what he’s doing. They will be profitable by years end. Why don’t you mind your business Mashable. You couldn’t hold a candle to him. it’s a legit company now, and not just a bullhorn for the left.
ReplyDeleteI dropped it when he took over.
ReplyDeleteI thought he bought twitter to troll and play around and not for business... Rich guys have weird playthings.
ReplyDeleteMore cooties. Ooh, I've got goosebumps.
ReplyDeleteElon Musk is the “false prophet” of Revelation, the “man of lawlessness” or “man doomed to destruction” from 2 Thessalonians 2:3, the Son of Perdition & the ACTUAL AntiChrist in the flesh. Just a friendly PSA.
ReplyDeletei thought the devil made flesh was supposed to be charismatic
Delete…
DeleteHe needs to completely clear out the fat left propaganda machine and bring in people who sit in the middle of the political spectrum that don't have an agenda to push (and censor).
ReplyDeleteProbably they were not required, downsizing was the right thing to do...
ReplyDeleteGood ….. Anyone that sold their souls to censorship deserves to go. All these people around the world who lost their jobs and lives to lies deserve to have these lot ousted.
ReplyDeleteWhere's all the fuss sbout Google, Facebook and others pulling mass layoffs and eliminating positions all together 🤔
ReplyDeleteYet its working better than ever. Should have been done long ago.
ReplyDelete... because nothing says free speech like firing everyone who disagrees with you.
ReplyDeletehe's firing those who DON'T believe in free speech.. 🤦♀️
DeleteEvery tech company is cutting.
ReplyDeleteSo 🤷🏻♂️ it’s happening everywhere . Where do you find the simple authors to write this drivel?
ReplyDeleteMore laid off lazy employees!

Hopefully he’s laying off the fools who moderate the site by pushing trans crap at everyone.
ReplyDeleteThis (Musk) uncouth American churl will destroy this platform with her legacy forever and this would happen at anytime🤦♂️😩
