Tom Hanks' reaction to Jeff Bezos' space offer is hilariously blunt
William Shatner may have gone to space on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, but apparently Tom Hanks got the offer first.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, the host asked Hanks to confirm the rumours — and his response was spectacularly blunt.
"Well yeah, provided I pay," Hanks says in the clip above. "It costs like $28 million or something like that. And I'm doing good Jimmy — I'm doing good — but I ain't paying $28 million. You know what, we could simulate the experience of going to space right now."
Hanks then proceeds to embark on some impromptu acting that sees him shaking in his chair (takeoff), floating around for a few minutes in his chair (the space bit), and then shaking some in his chair (landing).
"I don't need to spend 28 million bucks to do that."
It’s too expensive for him, he shouldn’t do it lol
ReplyDeleteThey call it space but it's hardly that, there's a doco on a MIG fighter that does a similar flight for 12k... to the edge of space

Even if I had 500 million in my bank account, I wouldn't be paying 28 million for a ride that only last 8 minutes inside a cramped vehicle.
ReplyDelete...floating can be done in your pool anyway. VR is going to be a real trip shortly. Combine the two without electricity, and SHAZAM.... you got yourself some pretty cheap entertainment!!!
ReplyDeleteBlue Origin is an expensive theme park ride.
ReplyDeleteSmoke high quality weed
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he decided not to pay 28 million to be one of the grossest polluters on all of the Earth in history
ReplyDeleteThose hair plugs look good
ReplyDeleteHas he been attacked by a giant squirrel?

ReplyDeleteLooking very forward to seeing "Finch". So very sorry about the loss of your good friend and fellow actor. May God comfort his family and friends during this very difficult time. God bless.
ReplyDeleteTom is so amazing here, being himself and almost choking up at the end. A wonderfull human being he is
ReplyDeleteI loved Bosom Buddies when I was a kid, and I loved Peter Scolari on Newhart, too. Watching Tom Hanks well up at the end made me lose it. Cancer truly does suck.
ReplyDeleteNot only is Tom one of the best at his craft, he is genuine and he can make you laugh and cry in the span of a minute. Peace be still Peter Scolari.
ReplyDeleteJust hearing his voice at the end broke my heart
ReplyDeleteMr. Tom Hanks has so much talent and so much class and social generosity.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love Tom Hanks. What a genuine human being. We should all be so lucky.
ReplyDeleteTom Hanks really did the going into space part like a true actor .That looked real!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see we all come across a little nuts after a year and half of covid isolation.
ReplyDeleteWait did the director actually do the directions that he was describing? That was kinda dope.

"National treasure" is still inadequate to describe what we get as a national audience from Tom Hanks.
ReplyDeleteLove how Tom Hanks shades Bezos’ inane vanity project.
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of money!
DeleteThat's the most animated I've seen Tom Hanks in an interview forever.
ReplyDeleteTom Hanks makes my heart happy. Every time I see his face, hear his voice.....all is well somehow.
ReplyDeleteTom Hanks is amazing in all his movies, one of them Forrest Gump.
ReplyDeleteThat was sweet, my heart goes out too him
ReplyDeleteKROQ Sports with Jimmy every morning on the drive to work in LA in the mid-to-late '90s was one of the highlights of my day.
ReplyDeleteThe band played "that thing you do." How appropriate. Love Tom. Good interview.
