Thousands of animals? I heard that 7-8 Chimpanzees died, but all of them had terminal diseases and would have died soon regardless. Neuralink even said that none of the animals died as a consequence of their technology. There is an extreme media bias against Elon Musk these days, so it's hard to know what we can take seriously, especially when the articles are based on nothing but anonymous sources. Neuralink has the potential to be extremely beneficial for humanity, and for people suffering from any kind of serious disability, blindness, etc. That said, I am generally against animal testing, or the unnecessary abuse or killing of animals for food, clothes, or other purposes.

While I am all for helping make life easier for people with disabilities; this ultimately seems like a ruse that will go much further, to the point it's offered as an application for everyday lives.
The potential for this to be used in nefarious ways with monumental consequences should not be understated. Neuralink will undoubtedly tie into Starlink and I'm sure the intention at some point is to make this as common as the cell phone is today.
If you think this is about helping mankind, try to view it more skeptically. If you think this is just an independent venture by a small group of people, let alone the source being one man, then you are just deceiving yourself.
I mean, you're clearly not getting upvotes for this post. Because everyone else recognizes that one guy making it 6 months doesn't inspire much faith when like 1500 of the animals they tested on died painful deaths. I don't love those odds and I'd rather not see disabled humans become the new testing group for a device like that. I wonder what adjustments they did compared to the first trial patient to reduce electrodes stopping working over time, news are generally sparse in details about that when it's probably what matter the most.
They actually said a lot - they said they would give more slack to the electrodes and implant them much deeper. They also made changes to the design of the implant so it sat smoother on both the inside and outside of the skull.
Super curious about the results. Every interview with the first patient has thus far been life changing. He loved it even in its initial beta state. Elon is saving the lives of many here!
He’s responsible for all of it existing is all. The central axis of a clock that holds all the hands, moves the least. They talked about it but personally, I have a feeling it's a bad idea. I believe these are symptoms of issues the person needs to deal with and it might not be good to just turn them off. And by issues I don't just mean mental issues.

DeleteI wonder what adjustments they did compared to the first trial patient to reduce electrodes stopping working over time, news are generally sparse in details about that when it's probably what matter the most.
ReplyDeleteThey actually said a lot - they said they would give more slack to the electrodes and implant them much deeper. They also made changes to the design of the implant so it sat smoother on both the inside and outside of the skull.

ReplyDeleteThey talked about it but personally, I have a feeling it's a bad idea. I believe these are symptoms of issues the person needs to deal with and it might not be good to just turn them off. And by issues I don't just mean mental issues.
